I'm staying at ASMovies in May. I've paid the trip off in full. It's the only resort that I cannot get the discounted spring rate of $84 per night for.

I check on Travelocity today - They have ASMovies for the discounted rate.

So, I call Disney up to see if I can cancel and get refunded and book with Travelocity. The CM (rude one at that) tells me I can but it will take 2 months to get my money refunded.

Also said he didn't have ASMovies available at that rate.

What would you do?

If you can book the room on Travelocity, I'd do that and cancel the other reservation. While it *might* take 2 months to get the refund, it's never taken anywhere near that long for me - they do take some time to process it, then your cc might take some more time. However, you won't get your refund instantly, so you'd have to cough up the money (or cc charge) upfront for the Travelocity reservation.

Watch the cancellation policy on Travelocity and make sure you can live with it. Travel sites tend to have much different, usually stricter, policies than Disney does.

It appears that I'd have to pay Travelocity the full amount now. If that's correct, I can't do it. I just finished paying off the reservation through Disney yesterday. Won't have the funds for a couple of weeks.

Boom:

How much is the Travelocity discount ?

$84 a night, as opposed to $99 a night.

Total for the 7 nights I paid through Disney was $783. Total through Travelocity would be $661.

The CM told me I could switch resorts, but I don't want to do that. I like ASMovies.

Guess I'll have to just suck it up and deal with paying $120 more than I would have otherwise.

Good lesson learned though - Check Travelocity first!!!

It's my understanding that Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz etc, actually buy these blocks of rooms in bulk, and may have availabilty (because they need to liquidate the remaining rooms they have) when 'the disney travel company' may not...

If the room is still available via travelocity at that rate once you are able to book it, then move forward and book it. There is no way it should take 2 months for a refund.... 2 weeks perhaps.

$120 isn't too bad if you do end up getting stuck.... and if they gave you the option of changing resorts to get the lower rate, then I think that is actually fair. I can appreciate that you may prefere a particular resort, but be prepared to pay a little extra if need be I suppose.

When I cancelled a room only reservation at Christmas the credit was back on my card in 10 days or less.

Just pondering... when I was searching for hotel rooms for our trip to Scottsdale Arizona, I found cheaper rooms on Expedia and Travelocity for the Phonecian, a 5 star top rate hotel in that area. I called the hotel direct and they told me that most hotels will match Travelocity and Expedia's prices because they would rather you book directly through them. I found this to be true at some of the Hyatt hotels that we have stayed. I wonder why Disney does not match the prices?

Yreah, I mean, I had the chance to switch resorts and the $120 wasn't important enough to to do that, so obviously, it's not a huge deal. Just a bit frustrating to know I could save that extra money.

In all honesty though, it just seems like it's more of a hassle than it's worth. I end up cancelling with Disney, then I'll check back on Travelocity in 2 weeks and the rate will be gone or not avaialble at all. Not worth risking losing the room over $120.

I think what bothers me is this the first time in a LONG time I've gone to Disney with no discount whatsoever.

man, boom I have to say those discount god's aren't doing you any favors, are they? What gives? :confused3

I don't understand why it would take over 2 months to get your money back from DW. Is that the norm? We had a credit applied to an account once from them and received it in about a week.

I am sorry about this.

I would call Disney back and speak with a different CM. If you don't like the answer from that CM ask to speak with the manager. Tell them you found a better deal through Travelocity and that you would like them to match that discount or to refund your money right away so you can book through Travelocity.

I agree about the two months. :confused3 IS this a package? I know I had to cancell a trip a few years back due to my fathers death, the day before we were to arrive. I already had Halloween Party tickets, we all had APs so it was room only. DU travel agent contacted them, they had everything, even party tickets refunded within 1 week. Of course we turned right around and rebooked for the following month ;). Can you try calling back and talking to anotherCM? I had a woman there yesterday tell me I already had the best package out there without even bothering to look and compare it with the new one. I called back and got a great guy, told me the new one better suited my needs and found me a room too!

This should be simple; common sense really! It should work with any forward thinking organization. A little pleasant assertiveness should get you the discount through Disney or a quick refund.

Unfortunately, Disney's policies and procedures do not always follow common sense!

Good luck, this is another reason I never pay my trip in full with Disney. They are horribly slow about refunds.

I am one of those people that changes my ressies often for different reasons... change of resort, new code... whatever, since my summer vacationing is very versitile (I'm off the whole summer) I can change. CMs always tell me the "up to 2 month" thing, and in my experience it has never taken more than 4 days for the deposit to show up in my bank account. I always use my bank debit card (visa) and I check online. I don't know if it makes a difference if you use a regular credit card.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

i made ressies in dec, and canx them in jan, (to rebook with a different resort). it took only a couple of days.

the woman explaned that it could take up to 2 months for it to show up on your statement if you are using a regular credit card.. but the actual refund is very fast. i wasn't worried because i used my debit card, and that seems to be pretty fast.

Boom, that $120 would buy a lot of diapers. ;)

I don't get the long wait thing either...that's really strange. When I cancelled my NYE trip at the 46 day mark last year, it was refunded in 3 days. I would suggest a different CM.

I just cancelled a ressie at the BWI and the CM told me it would take 5-7 days for a refund. The card was refunded the next day. Book through travelocity-your refund will come through faster than you think.

Cancel the trip booked through Disney and take the discount.
