Third grade school list... WHY do I have to label each crayon, pencil and...

coloring pencil? OMG!!! I'd rather buy him more than try to write his name on each with a permanent marker! Talk about itty bitty lettering...

Why oh why? Do kids still steal the black crayon in third grade?

You've got to be kidding!

What happens when the kiddo's peal all the paper off the crayons? How is the teacher going to determine who'd crayon it is? Maybe you'll have to "brand" them all.

I've never done it. My son sat next to a little Klepto last year. I spent a fortune on replacement supplies.

Once when I was in school for a meeting I asked the teacher if she could surreptisiously look through the kid's desk. My son came home that afternoon and said the teacher "gave" him 15 pencils.

You wouldn't believe how many times in one day there is a debate in the classroom about who's crayon was found on the floor. How many pencils that look alike that belongs to at least two or three students because they can't find theirs. If studen't participate in centers located around the room, almost always someone forgets to take all of their belongings with them. Thus the name helps to locate it's owner. May seem like a hassle, but to the child that is trying to locate their beloved property, believe me, it is worth it.

I had some adhesive labels wiht my sons first name on it that I used around the pencil. They were small labels.

Eve so we had to replace and replace stuff.

Just put his initials (or first name and last initial) and be done with it. I taught for many years and this avoids so many problems that it doesn't seem all that much to ask the parents to do. Or since he's in third grade, let him do it.

My sons had a ball with this.... they just typed their last name on the computer and copy and paste.....

Print the sheet off, cut out the names and use scotch tape to put them on pencils, crayons, etc. Works like a charm!!!

Thank goodness we are beyond that point now!!!

My DD's fourth grade teacher assigned each kid a number, and then gave them little labels with their number for all their markers and stuff. Now that is a smart woman (teaching 30 years).

You must have missed the thread where a good share of us were complaining about sending everything to share and having no personal property. I wish I had the option of labeling items.

This is a great idea! Can't believe more teachers don't use it - it makes a lot of sense. So easy for everyone.

My kids will fight for 3 hours over who should drink out of the Mickey Mouse glass that has a scratch across Mickey's ear -- you honestly think I can't comprehend crayon ownership?
