Thinking Thru: MK Resort v. Value

I would stay at the Poly if it is in your budget. It really is easy to get to the MK from there, and honestly, with a little one, it is very relaxing. We stayed at teh BC last year and my DH was :faint:. He said no more.....he want monorail line. We have stayed at several different resorts btu he really thought that for a family, the Poly was the best. (Actually he loves the CR, but I think it is like a giant toaster, and prefer the Poly)

we have stayed at the Poly and BLT/ Contemp.... we love the convenience of staying on a monorail resort!! Love staying at these locations

the rooms are bigger at the Poly too.

also you can walk to the TTc and hop on a monorail to Epcot.

and there are dole whips at the Poly.

I agree with PPs - easy transportation with a Toddler is a must! Next trip is a long one for us 11 nights, so we are splitting between Poly and BC so the only time we have to deal with busses is for AK. Make it easy on yourself and really increase the magic of your trip!

I am contemplating this split stay too!! I can't decide for the life of me which resort to do this time!! LOL.

Do you mind me asking what made you decide on these two? we know we want poly again for sure....but am contemplating CR or BEach club

With your traveling make-up, I suggest monorail resort, also. Very fast to get from your Resort to the MK and back. It's faster than you think and you'll see what I mean when you stay there. Any of the 3 monorail resorts will work. I like the Poly because you can walk over to TTC (through the nice walking path) and pick up the monorail for direct access to Epcot.

I'll go a slightly different route here and although POLY is our favorite monorail resort I will suggest perhaps GF. If you really are going to spend more time at MK then you can ride the monorail going to MK and have no stops. Then when you return, you can ride the boat and GF is the first stop coming from MK. We are not fans of the walkway from CR to the MK. It seems long to us and there is a road crossing involved. True enough, it's at a red light but we just don't like it.

If staying at a monorail resort isn't going to put a damper on the trip finances, stay at one! :thumbsup2

DD's first trip was at 15 months and I chose POFQ. It was such a great resort and perfect for that first trip, save for one thing: we weren't on the monorail line. I obviously knew that when I booked but I didn't consider it to be worth the extra expense. Until I experienced traveling with a toddler. For her second and third trips I booked CR and GF. I didn't care about the extra cost but it made life much easier for me (I'm a single parent so traveling with DD and all of her "required", well, junk, can be overwhelming at best) for those 8-10 days. Fell asleep in the stroller at MK or EP? No problem - just pushed that stroller onto the monorail, transferred if necessary, off of the monorail and into our room.

Now that she's older (4.. :rotfl:) her "junk" has gotten bigger. She has gotten bigger. More family members have started to travel with us and we've started staying off site (SVR or WBC). It still sometimes makes me do a :sad2: when I think we're going to be staying off site but it's more cost effective for us as we are AP holders who visit, at the minimum, twice a year for 8-10 days. Those 2 or 3 bedroom units provide ample space for all of us to stretch out and relax. However, on those rare trips (mostly long weekends) when it's just myself and DD we still pick an MK resort (with WL being my new favorite)!

I am really looking forward to staying in a Royal Room at PO when DD is a little older. I know she'd like it at age 3, but know she'd really appreciate and remember it at, say, age 5 or 6! :)

I think the Poly is the best location in all of WDW. I have have a 4 y/o and 1 y/o and we have taken 8 week-long trips since my oldest was 10 months, so i consider myself a pro at traveling with young kids. Whenever we can afford it, we stay at the poly. sometimes, we compromise and stay at an epcot area resort if the deal is good (and we LOVE BC) and i will literally walk through epcot to catch the monorail to ttc to go to MK. with 2 little ones and a double stroller, we avoid the buses at all costs. I 100% support a resort decision based on convenience when you have little kids (assuming your budget allows it). being able to roll a stroller onto the monorail when the kids are asleep and you are laden with bags is just awesome.
at the poly you can hop the monorail to MK or walk to ttc and hop a monorail directly to epcot. really, it's the best location in my humble opinion.
