Thinking of switching from ASM to moderate to avoid bus lines?

Hello,

Looking for some advice. I know us as a family, I know how we travel. We will NOT be spending a lot of time in our hotel room, or on the resort for that matter. So with that in mind, I booked a room at ASM. However, after reading about the incredibly long tram lines to the All star resorts I am concerned. I don't want to spend all our time waiting for busses. So I am thinking of switching to a moderate resort to try to avoid this a bit. Would it be worth it? I know the way to go is a monorail resort, but not sure I want to fork over that much cash... Which moderate would have the shortest bus lines? Would it be worth the extra money to shorten our bus rides?

After multiple stays at the All Stars, POR, POFQ and CBR we have found no difference in wait times for buses. There are other differences like having multiple covered bus stops at CBR and POR, but that's it. If you are not going to be spending a lot of time at the resort, then IMHO it would not be worth the extra $$ to upgrade to a moderate. It's only worth it if you are going to use/enjoy the extra amenities.

Renting a carshould be $20 a day and keep you from the bus issue and also allow you to shop for water and other essentials.

I start to flip out when i get to the bus stop and more than seven seconds go by.

If you're staying on site, parking is free at the parks. You will get a parking pass when you check in at your resort. Just remember, when driving to MK you will have to park at the TTC, take a tram from the parking and take either the monorail or ferry to the MK entrance.

I much prefer the bus service from value resorts over bus service from the moderates. I really dislike the multiple bus stops within the resort.

The monorails aren't all that fast either.

The best is a resort where you can walk to a park like CR to walk to MK or Epcot resorts to walk to Epcot & DHS. But if you aren't going to spend any time enjoying the resort it isn't worth the premium to pay for those resorts.

There is no guarantee in regards to bus waiting times, whether staying Value on up through Deluxe. You do not get better bus times at the more exspensive resorts. To avoid the real heavy lines from the parks you have to leave before the fireworks/last show or wait til an about an hour after.

There are bus lines for all the resorts. No differentiation between wait times at Value, Moderate or Deluxe resort levels - the bus is the great equalizer.

doesn't the all-star bus stop at all 3?

The AS buses only stop at all 3 at off peak times-first thing in the morning and last thing at night its one bus, one resort.
What ticked us off about the mods is that theres no queueing system-at the Values there is a link fence to create a line, whereas at POFQ its every man for himself when the bus rolls up-the number of times we saw the people who'd been there the longest (often with kids or seniors) being practically flattened by someone who came sprinting up as the bus pulled in...
I say stick with the AS-which one was it BTW? ASM can mean Movies or Music!
If its Music, then depending on where you are you may well be able to jump on a Movies or Sports bus to go home anyway.

Not normally. Sometimes during the slow parts of the day they will share. For example during a 7 night stay at Sports, only one time in the middle of the day did we share. And there were only 7 people total on the bus.

I actually prefer the bus lines at values over moderates. I don't like how at the moderates (and deluxes, for that matter), there is no actual queue. People just stand around and wait for the bus. Problem is, people don't care who got there first and will push right in before you, even if they were the last one at the stop. No common courtesy. At least at values, your place in line is established.

I agree, the bus "issue" at the Values isn't really an "issue". I've stayed at the Poly and waited 45 minutes for a bus, and paid $400+ per night.

At ASMo, we only had 2 "bad" experiences with a long wait time. But we had more experiences with waiting under 5 minutes for a bus, and often there was a bus just pulling up at the bus was pulling in.

I stayed at All Star Sports this year from Jan 2-6. I felt like I spent half my time waiting on the bus. I'm not kidding, the bus service was terrible. Hopefully it was just my trip, but I won't stay at the All Stars again because of this reason. Once the bus came it was great, never rode on a bus with people standing the entire trip.

But at off-times of day, they share with POR, so 4 more stops around that resort before you go to a park.

We have never seen All-Stars share buses, we've stayed there 3 different times, twice in January, and it was fine. I know it happens but it is not a standard practice.

At All-Stars, you can share food courts and pools, so it's a pretty great setup. We love it there (just sometimes hate the clientele when it's full of groups LOL).

We stayed at ASM this past spring break and did not have any problems with the bus service!!!! yes it did go to the other all stars resorts but it is not like any other big moderate resort with its multiple stops!!! we also walked to our resort from the other resorts.. what ever bus came first we would get on that bus and take it to that resort and then walk a short walk to ASM!!! Like I always say... It is all in what you make it!!! It is you and only you that can make or break a vacation! so go and have fun and relax!!

Never ever pick your resort based on what you hope the bus service will be. All resorts can have great service, and all resorts can have horrible service. Sometimes on the same day!

Pick your resort based on what one appeals to you the most. Theming, location, amenities. Do not pick based on bus service.

OK, I never thought about this or realized mods don't have the queuing system. I loved the "line" at Pop Century bus stop, no worries about people breaking line. I assumed the mods were the same, except covered! We are staying at POR in a few months. Are line breakers at mods a big problem?
