Thinking of small add-on.... a few questions.

Hi everyone,

We always thought we'd eventually do an add-on, but now it seems like it might happen sooner than later. Maybe?

The new points charts really messed with our long term plans. Instead of being able to do five weekday nights in an AKV GV in 2012, we can only do four nights with the new reallocation.

So we're thinking of a 25 point add-on.

I do know a few things for that size add-on:
-needs to be cash (no financing)
-no special incentives given

What I don't know:
-what's the price up to now? (Or can you direct me to where this info is listed?)
-if we buy now, how will that effect the dues we just paid for 2010?

Thanks everyone! It's so great to have a DVC gang here, since I often think of these questions late at night when MS (or my guide) is not available.

Dvcnews.com will give you all the pricing. As far as dues I believe they will be due, but I can be wrong.

The dues will be prorated based on your purchase date. They will bill you for the dues or they can be combined with an existing monthly direct debit.

AKV is currently at $112/ppt with no incentives. Once you add on, the contract will be billed dues from the date that your purchase.

Therefore, you would pay approximately 11 months worth of dues. Just in case you didn't know, you can pay for an add on through Disney with a Disney Visa and get 6 months, 0% interest on the purchase, up to $5000.

We did that last June, and I just finished paying it off this month.

Good luck!

Add-ons at AKV are $112 per point for 25-49 points. There is price break of $10 per point for 50-99 points - so if you can swing it, that might be a wiser purchase.

Just adding - that when you buy from Disney, the purchase date (for the prorating of dues) means the date you sign the purchase agreement, not the closing date.

Thanks everyone! I visited dvcnews.com and found the pricing late last night - great site - how did I not know about it?!

Good to know about the Disney visa. Although when I applied for one last year, I was not approved. (Although I foolishly applied right after we bought two new cars - apparently that's not the way to go...)

We're still figuring out what to do, but how awesome it was to have the info right away from my fellow DVC dissers!!! Thanks!:goodvibes

You would also most likely get 2009 points as well. There wouldn't be any dues payable on the 2009 points and they should allow you to bank them immediately, even if you are already past your 2009 banking deadlines.

I think that this is a great deal, and we've done an add on with timing to get those points in the past. Once, we were not allowed to bank the points:headache: but for the last few times, we have been able to.:goodvibes

Have you looked at the resale market? I looked quick at the listings that the board sponsor has and they are showing four 50 point listings at AKV. The lowest going for $4200 and the highest at $4400. With a Disney add on the price would be $2800. If you can swing $1400 you get 25 points more. Plus, the dues would not be charged until 2011. I have made 2 purchases from the Timeshare store and had no problems.

Actually with resale you would be paying your 2010 all up front at closing.

Should have been more specific. I was specifically referencing the points that were being listed by the timeshare store. There were no 2010 points available, therefore no dues until 2011.

I don't see how re-sale is a better deal in this situation.

50 points through Disney is $102 point = $5100 with no closing costs.

With Disney you could rent/transfer the 2009 and 2010 points for $10 a point to lower your cost by another $1000, that would bring it down to $82 a point.

You would also get your current use year.

The 50 point resale is $84 point = $4200 plus about $350 for closing costs plus you don't have 2009 or 2010 points. That would make the points cost $91 with closing fees.

BTW I LOVE the Timeshare Store. That is where a bought my HHI points.
