Thinking of buying a small contract from resale, pros and cons?

Our home resort is SSR and UY Dec (Directly purchased from DVC). Thinking of buying a small contract like 50 pt. What are the pros and cons of buying the resale? I know we can't use the resale point for any Concierge level (and we don't have enough point to do so anyway).

If you have purchased an additional contract before, how did you make decision on what used year to buy? Would it complicate our current contract if we purchase a different home resort, in the same or in a different UY?

Any insights and shares are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It is not the concierge level that you are restricted to, but the Disney collection, which includes cruises, as well as some other trade out options.

If you go with a different UY, then you are really buying an entirely new membership and they will be treated as such. You won't be able to combine points for a single nights reservation without transferring between the two. And the points will always retain their own banking rights, etc.

With small contracts, I would look to get the same UY. This way, if they are the same resort, then you can pool the points at 11 months as though it was one big contract. If it is a different resort, you can do that at the 7 month mark.

In terms of another resort, the problem with owning a small contract is that you won't be able to use the points with your SSR points until the 7 month mark and therefore, may not have enough, without borrowing, to take advantage of owning at that resort.

We own two resorts with two different UY's. However, both of them are bigger--150 BWV and 180 BLT--so it allows us to book our trips as split stays, which is what we wand. But we have enough points to book whole nights at the 11 month mark so no need to transfer, etc.

Good luck!

I would buy the same UY and have one membership. Multiple UY's are more work to keep track of and use. All it takes is one, "I forgot to bank one of my UY's, now what do I do", moments to make you really understand the value of one UY.

I would also buy the same UY. Good luck and keep us posted.
