Thinking of backing out...

There are 23 studios as part of lock-offs and 23 dedicated two-bedrooms.

I am always confusing 48 total or 48 non-GV's. Having owned there since the start I'd think I could get that set in my mind.

I've been a DVC owner for 20 years, and I've never not gotten a place to stay, even at 7 months. I've booked even a few weeks out. But I am very flexible.

Also, we stay very differently now. We really "lean in" to the resorts and our rooms, so we rarely stay at studios. We don't do the parks all day any more, typically. Because we always know we're coming back, it's a more relaxed stay. And while I understand what you say about not wanting to cook on vacation, it's great to be free of the tyranny of restaurants and ADRs. We often invite friends to join us, and we have wine while we put meat on the grill, with a bagged salad, some rice, etc. and eat a terrific meal on our OKW balcony.

Love cooking in the villa.

We get to eat exactly what we want right when we want it. Beverages whilst preparing the meal fit right in with the "vacation" atmosphere too...

So spoiled with DVC that it's hard to go back to regular hotel rooms when we are not staying on points

We are set to close in 2 weeks on our AKL resale. The realtor today let it slip that we will probably never be able to book the value studio at AKL, and it will be near impossible to get 2 rooms at Disneyland and Aulani. We will be traveling with my parents so we will need two rooms. I'm scared now that it is going to be hard for us to go together. We don't travel during peak times, mostly the first two weeks of Dec or Jan. Will it really be difficult? I didn't even consider the fact that we may not be able to get rooms as DVC owners. I'm hoping she was just wrong.

Thanks
First, you've signed a contract and given your word. Ethically you really can't just back out because you didn't understand what you were getting into. Plus legally you're likely well past your chance to cancel which is 10 days from when you signed assuming the contract were done correctly. I'd say go through with it and see how it goes, you can always sell later or add on for an additional home resort option if it doesn't work out. Alauni shouldn't be difficult with planning, value is almost impossible if not booking right at the 11 month window.

With planning, I completely agree. One just needs to understand what's workable and what's not. Plus one needs to be comfortable and proactive with the wait list system.

Is there a thread here that discusses the details about how the wait list works, when does it make sense, strategies, etc ?

I'm sure there are but I can't point you to a specific thread. It's really very simple though. So assuming you're looking at a non home resort, you basically have to book minute one at 7 months out and book everything that works then wait list taking into account easier to get options including booking eateries. Having extra points increases the likelihood of success but obviously adds costs.

I bought AKV and I would prefer the values as well. I have many nights booked in November (not at 11 month window) and I was able to snag the second week of December, all value studios. It isn't impossible.
