Thinking of a surprise July B-Day trip..

for my daughter. She'll be turning 6 and I was thinking of just waking her up on her birthday and saying "Get Dressed...we're going to Disney"! It would be the week of July 18th....

So, you pro's out there...give it to me straight...will I be wanting to hang myself going this time of the year with regards to crowds?

I live in Virginia so heat and humitity are the norm during the summer so that I'm not too concerned about...we plan on breaks and pool time which we never get to do when we go (December).

The parks will be packed, but if you go just to enjoy the magic of being there for her birthday I would think you could have a wonderful time. Perhaps concentrate on some of the smaller details rather than being set on doing as many attractions as possible?

If you're going for the attractions, you might find it a bit....frustrating. Lots of hot people having to wait in long lines never adds up to a stress free day!

We did the same thing last year for my DS's 5th birthday. The crowds WERE really bad with lots of long waits and some afternoon thunderstorms, but all in all I would totally do it again. It's worth it to surprise your DD. I would take lots of breaks and definitely utilize the pool. Our kids had a blast at the pool and the water parks, which is something we usually miss out on when we go over the winter.

I am agreeing with the other posters so far. When I was a child, I loved going to WDW but of course had to go in July or August. There were long lines, lots of heat, always a bit of bickering here and there along the way but I didn't care. I was in Disney World! Some of my favorite memories from these early trips are actually the little things like playing games while waiting in line or the whole family stopping for a cupcake break at what was then Mickey's Starland.
