Thinking about transfering points ... what are the details?

We have some points that expire next June. We might still use them but we're considering transferring.

If we transfer, what is the process? I know I can advertise them on the DVC Rent / Trade board, but since that's not a discussion board I'm posing the question here.

From DVC's side, how do points get transferred?

The process is quite simple:

Call (or email) MS with both member numbers (yours and the person's whose account you are transferring into) along with the number of points you wish to transfer. If you call, MS will ask for written confirmation in the form of an email or fax.

Just remember that both you and the other member are limited to one transfer per use year. If they already used theirs you will not be able to transfer to them. Once you use yours, you won't be able to transfer in or out until your next use year.

Other than that it is pretty painless.

Most times (but of course not all, since when does MD do anything 100% consistent) they require a written follow up confirmation of your desire to transfer, usually by fax or snail mail, sometime by email, and sometimes not at all!)

The points were borrowed from the next use year. I had to change my res. and now I have some points in the current use year that won't be returned to their use year.

Looking at the DVC material, it says I can't transfer borrowed points.

But can these points be rented? If so, what are the steps involved with that?

Yes, you may rent borrowed points. Actually, you will be making a reservation with the borrowed points and renting that.

If you haven't already, go to the Rent/Trade Forum and read all of the Sticky threads at the top of the page.

Do a search on renting and read some of the threads returned from the search. Try to find some with "sample" contracts so you can get an idea of what a written agreement might look like - these are mostly to ensure both sides of the transaction understand the terms. IMHO, a contract would be very hard to enforce.

Once you have decide on the price and terms you will offer, post on the Rent/Trade Forum. Be sure your post meets the criteria (in one of the Sticky Threada) or it will not make it to the board.
