Thinking about purchasing

We already have a trip planned to Disney in June. I spoke with a DVC rep today who said if we purchased now, we would get both this years and next years points and would be able to stay at the Animal Kingdom Villa.
He quoted me a monthly fee of $230, and a deposit of $1700 and payments over ten years. Since he offered AK does that mean that would be my home resort? We would only go every two years, so that means if we went again in 2017, I could use the points from 2016 and 2017?
What if I need more points or want to go during Christmas/Halloween (a dream of my daughter and I). I have three kids age 12, 8, 4 and they would love a place with a pool and water activities.
Also, do you get discounted tickets to the parks? And can I still do the dining plan, or use some sort of discount meal option?
Suggestions, recommendations would be great. Wish I knew about it earlier, it be paid off by now!

Take a step back and do some research.

1. You can purchase the dining plan - and very few restaurants have a 10% off.
2. Only discounted APs (although there is a current promo thats discounted) - but if you're going every 2 years, it won't help you.
3. If you want more points outside of your one-time-use (24) points, then you'll either have to use cash, or purchase more points.
4. Buying direct through Disney is rarely a good idea, especially if you're purchasing AKL. Look into resale.

Depending on your Use Year (the month you get your points) you probably would get 2 years worth of points to use. If you buy you can choose what resort you want to buy at, if that's AKV ($155 per point), BLT or VGF (both $165 per point) you will pay a high price if you buy direct from Disney. I suspect he, as your guide he could arrange your 1st stay wherever he could swing it. After the 1st time you will have to book your own stays. "Classic" resorts OKW, BWV, BCV, VWL and SSR costs $130 per point. Resales are much cheaper. Each resort has annual dues or Members Fees, different amounts per point that you own. Currently BLT MFs are cheapest and BWV is most expensive on property at WDW.

Yes, you can use 2016 and borrow 2017 points for your next trip.

If you need more points you can either buy more or rent one-time-use points once per year, up to 24 points for $15 per point to fill out a reservation but those can only be bought at 7 months or less before your stay starts. You could also rent/transfer points from other owners.

The only discount on tickets are usually on Annual Passes but currently they are offering a special ticket that will expire soon. No guarantees that they will ever offer that again. Perks come and go.

No discount on Dining Plans. There are some limited DVC and AP discounts. DVC owners can purchase a Tables In Wonderland Card that gives a 20% discount on most table service meals including appetizers and alcohol but it costs $100. It also gives your server a 18% gratuity. You need to spend nearly $500 to get any real savings but it is good for 13 months.

Frankly it doesn't sound like you know enough about DVC to go forward with a direct purchase and I would recommend you do a LOT more reading and learning about DVC before you make any decisions. You can do that here. Lots of wisdom and people are willing to help. I would also recommend you learn about resale which will save you a ton of money.

Since you are going to WDW in 2015 and won't go again until 2017, yes you can use your points from 2016 as well but you need to make sure you bank the ones from 2016 or you'll lose them. Bank your points for whatever years you don't plan on going.

If ever you need more points, you can also borrow points from the next year. Say in 2017 you go and you want to stay in a nice room with a great view like in AKV, you have your 2016 banked points, your 2017 points but you used them up on this one stay, you can borrow points from 2018 if you wish to go 2x in the same year.

But it also depends on the amount of points you get and remember that during peak season like in the summer, it uses up a lot of points.

Look at this website for info on buying resale. It's WAAY cheaper than buying direct. http://www.dvc-resales.com

Before you make a serious mistake, you need to take some time and really find out about DVC. If you told the DVC salesman that you want to do this, you need to stop. You apparently know little or nothing about DVC. Read these boards, find out as much as you can about DVC and make an educated purchase.

First of all, DVC doesn't just "give" you two years of points. You get only want you are entitled to. If you purchase a contract with an October or December Use Year, you would be getting the 2013 points because you are still in the 2013 UY for those months. Then when you hit the first of the month for those UYs, you are in your 2014 UY. If you were getting a Feb thru Sept UY, you would be getting 2014 UY points.

Next, how many points would you be purchasing at AKV? You need to know how many points you are purchasing because you need to know how many points you have to use when you make your reservation each time. You don't use the same number of points for different times of the year and for different accomodations. Plus, you pay annual member fees based on the home resort you own and the number of points you own.

Forget about your upcoming trip staying at AKV and just sit back and find out as much as you can.

You haven't even found out about resales that can save a lot of money on your initial purchase.

I completely agree with ☝☝ it is A LOT of information you need to know that can seem overwhelming. We are not DVC members yet but we do hope to be within the next year or so (hopefully) because we are still researching but you need to research almost all there is about DVC. You need to figure out what you want as your "home" resort, the amount of points, what UY you want. And each resort has different contract end dates and price per point and different price when it comes to calculating your annual dues.
