So DH and I are thinking of going down to WDW, probably OKW or SSR the week of August 19th, we usually go in January. What do you all think? SIL is going to be down there around the same time but we would only be together for one day, that isn't a big deal either way.

Anything going on that week?

We're going to AKV the 17th - 27th. Just hoping to avoid love bugs (for the love of god, PLEASE)

We will be at SSR from Aug 16th - 22nd. I'm hoping that we can do the parks in the mornings/evenings and go back for some pool time in the afternoons to avoid the heat/crowds.

I did rent one of my studios a few months ago from another member. At that time the only studios available were at SSR.

We went that week last year and enjoyed it. The crowds were not bad, as many places were returning to school then. We arrived at the parks early and got a lot done by 1:00, when it picked up a little. It was very HOT, though! :)

We went to OKW last August 16-22. It's summer, so it's hot. But that's pretty much anywhere in the US in August. I had seen it hotter in June on another trip once. The weather is a crap shoot in the summer - but that's when we always vacation. We don't have a regular week that we always vacation. We bounce around. A plus is that late August uses less points!:thumbsup2 Crowds are a bit less than they are in July bcuz a lot of schools have already gone back. Not sure what kind of advice you're looking for...:confused3

We're going Aug. 1-17. We were able to snag 3 nights at AKV and 6 nights at SSR. The other nights we're at AKL on the hotel side.

This is our third year of WDW in August. In 2006 we went Aug. 3-12, last year we went Aug. 14-23. I am not a very good judge when it comes to crowds, and it is definitely hot, but we like it well enough to keep doing it! :rotfl:

We found early August to be considerably less crowded than July, but per OP...it's HOT, HOT, HOT!!!. You'll never be so thankful to get on Small World, Peter Pan, and Hall of Presidents. The water rides have extremely long waits, so grab your fast passes there for sure if you really want to ride. DH is a teacher, so we always go in July or August and though hot, enjoy our time. When we do go in the winter or spring, though, we always comment on how nice it is to walk around the parks and not melt!!! ;)

Buy a crate of those little disposable bottles of water and stick them in your freezer. Put one in your fanny pack each time you leave the room. It will help keep you cool and provide you with ice water whenever you want a sip.

I'm glad PP all go in the mornings and go back for a swim in the afternoon, we are not morning people - less crowds in afternoon because of heat?? Probably not. I still don't think it will inspire DH and I to get out of bed an earlier :rotfl:

I would like to check out Blizzard Beach, we have never been there. I'm guessing that will be crazy busy but at least it's not freezing like when we are there in January.

I was kinda hoping to go a little later in August but DH's pass expires earlier in the month and we would like to get another visit out of it. Of course it doesn't really matter since we will renew it anyway for our trip in January.

Thanks for all the replies!!

We did August a few years ago. Our feeling was that it gets to be 90 or 95 here in Maryland - how much hotter can Florida be? Well, .... I'll tell you - MUCH HOTTER. I don't know how to explain it but you feel like you're in an oven from around 9:00 am until the sun goes down. It actually hurts to go out in the sun. Bring plenty of sunscreen and a wide brim hat. For us, we much prefer the crowds at Spring Break or Christmas to the heat of summer.

This will be year #7 in a row going in August. Is it hot? Yes but I agree with other posters it is no hotter than anywhere else on the east coast. Last year was by far an aboration! the heat was BRUTAL!!!! almost 100 degress and with that heat radiating off the concrete..... OOUCH:scared1:

In other years it has been ok as long as you stay away from 12 - to 4PM. Then it rains and back into the parks at night for us.

Crowds are moderate - however 2 years ago th parks were EMPTY. It was either the first real shock in gas prices or it was the Liquids Carryon scare. Whatever it was it was nice to have the parks near Jan Low's in attendance.

I just hope for this year it is hurricane free. :thumbsup2

We go every summer and typically it is in August. The crowds should be starting to wind down....but....if free dining is during that time, don't count on it! We have only seen the lovebugs in September (and I believe they are there in May too). We have never seen them in August.

I'll be there Aug 22-29. This is my 3rd July/August in a row so I must be crazy. Here in the Northeast during the winter months sometimes it is so cold that it takes your breath away, well that is the same feeling when you walk outside for the first time in the morning. Alas, I don't care...I would rather be at the World no matter what time it is!!
