Thinking about Canada cruise in October on Dream

My husband and I are thinking of taking a cruise, just the two of us, this fall. We're looking for something that's around 4 nights. We were planning to do a Bahama/CC cruise. After reading a lot of reviews and listening to several trip reports on podcasts - I just don't have any interest in going on the Wish. What really pushed me over the edge was hearing everyone talk about how cramped they were in all of the dining rooms and at the buffet. It just no longer appeals to us.

There's a cruise that only goes to New Brunswick and back. It's on the Dream which we haven't been on yet. And, I don't honestly care about which ports it goes to. I want to enjoy the ship, have time to do whatever we feel like, I don't even care if I get off at the port. We've done a couple other Canada/New England cruises and enjoy those ports. But, I just want to enjoy the ship this time around.

My question is primarily about the pool deck. On DCL one of my favorite things to do is watch Disney movies on Funnel Vision. Since it will be in Canada in late October - will the pool deck even be open? Will movies be playing during the day on Funnel Vision?

If anyone has been on DCL Canada cruises I'd love to hear any other feedback about it! Thanks

We did that cruise (on Magic) out of NYC in October. The pool deck is open, the pools are nice and heated and there are blankets liberally set out (on the towel stands IIRC). We watched a movie on the pool deck on that cruise, too. There was one day that rained, and it was fun to do inside things all day. DW & I spent the afternoon reading and playing Scrabble in the then-Promenade Lounge. The NYC cruise terminal was quite easy, also.

Never had a cruise that just didn’t utilize the funnel vision.

This cruise sounds great - right at the tail-end of leaf season. And sailing past the S of Liberty - what a great alternative to a Caribbean cruise.

Hope it works out for you.

For those that have done this cruise, was the ocean choppy/rough? We did a RC cruise out of Baltimore to Bermuda a few years ago, and the ocean was much rougher than a Caribbean cruise. We met other travelers in Bermuda who sailed from NY and they said the seas were very rough.

I don't mind if it's bumpy but thinking this could be fun with my mom who hasn't sailed before and is afraid of being seasick.

There was a little bit of chop, but very little movement. YMMV, though. A data point is that my daughter is very susceptible to motion sickness (car, train, you name it) and has never been ill during her 17 cruises.

I have cruised to New Brunswick, Canada twice, the most recent was October 2017 on DCL, Magic out of NYC.

The way I remember it everything was open and running like it does out of PC.
The only difference was pants and hoodies/jackets. And like someone said, blankets available for snuggle up on the main deck to take in a movie or two.

I also cruised out of NYC to Bermuda in October 2018. Both times water can be a bit chopper than the southern Atlantic and Caribbean, but not too bad, unless you have storm.

Saint John, New Brunswick is a quaint city, easy to walk. Plenty of things to do near port or book an excursion.

And of course you know how special it is to sail out of NYC.You have the city, which itself is a experience. But sailing down the Hudson River past Lady Liberty, Ellis Island, the Freedom Tower and under the Verranzo Narrows Bridge into New York Harbor and out to the Atlantic Ocean is pretty special.

DH and me are sailing on our 4th DCL out of NYC this November, I believe it’s the last cruise. We disembark in San Juan.

That cruise is great way to enjoy the Dream. And have a fun getaway with DH and you.

Good luck with your decision.🚢😎🌴💫✨
