Think this is possible?

We've booked two weeks at the BWV in July. Our first week, we have a 1 BR preferred view; second week, standard view. We were hoping to be able to stay in the same room for both weeks, but it wasn't possible at the time we booked, in April.

Having said that: what do you think the odds are that we will end up being able to stay in the same room (maybe being "upgraded") for the two weeks? (Perhaps someone will cancel or there will be an opening?) I think that checking out/checking and moving luggage ordeal will be sort of a hassle. I'd love to inquire about this when we check in.

Do they do this? Ever? Or do you suspect that July is out of the question...? Any experiences out there?

IMHO, it's possible, but not probable. If your PV is a guaranteed BW view, I'd say it was virtually impossible - prepare to move.

Are you on the waitlist for PV for the second week? If so, be sure to call at the 30 day mark and request to stay on it if nothing has come through by then.

If you are not, call and get on it. There are quite a few more PV -Pool/Garden rooms than there are standard views, so my advice is to waitlist for the second week. If it were me, I'd waitlist by individual days, even though that entails the risk of having to move more than once. IMHO, the fewer days you have in standard view, the great the chance you won't have to move.

FWIW, moving won't be all that bad (other than having to pack up). Disney will store your things, you can go to a park and when you return in the late afternoon, your room will be ready. Call for your luggage and they will bring it up to you.

Best wishes -

If staying in the same room is of paramount importance, you might want to ask at check-in if they will put you in a Standard View room for the entire stay. They'll still charge you the Preferred View points for the first week, but someone else who has SV reserved will get a free upgrade.

View is not a big issue...but having to pack up and move in the middle of our vacation is.

We'll contact BWV about our interest in securing a standard view for the entire two weeks, and see what happens...

It was my understanding that the policy is to never upgrade from standard view to preferred view because of the difference in points and how that would not be fair to other members who used the full amount of points for preferred view :confused3 It doesn't hurt to ask, though (we never have because we thought it was never done...) Personally I'd get on the waiting list for standard view for the first week and economize on points, but for us its the location of BWV and not the location of our room that is important to us.

Keep us posted!

I don't agree with tjkraz on this.

FWIW, there are many (us included) who prefer standard view rooms to the Pool/Garden view rooms. We would not consider it an "upgrade" to get moved to a Pool/Garden view room. I don't think the OP should count on the front desk "rescuing" him at check in. He needs to call on get on the waitlist for one of the weeks.

Since there are almost always members on the waitlist for standard view rooms, I think he has a better chance of getting a PV for the 2nd week than he does a standard view for the first. But that's JMHO. Obviously, others disagree.

Hope it all works out.

Best wishes -

If I booked a SV, unless the free upgrade was right over the BoardWalk, I wouldn't be happy to get bumped out of my SV room. I would have no desire to have a main pool, quiet pool or courtyard view and don't consider that an upgrade. JMHO

To the OP - you can ask anything you want at checkin, just be prepared for the "No" answer. I think an upgrade without paying extra points is very unlikely. Perhaps more of a possibility to pay extra points to get one.

But I do agree with others - call and get on the waitlist for a SV the first week and a PV the second week. Or try to move to another resort that has two weeks available.

Following your suggestions, DW called DVC to see about getting on the wait list for a SV the first week.

They hunted around and were able to add two more days in an SV! They suggested she call back, beginning July 10th (one week before our scheduled arrival) and they would know then what was possible.

Thanks, guys! Fingers crossed! :cool1:

I make no claims to understand what goes on at BWV...I am a newbie. However, I just got back and I spoke with the manager (alfredo...a real cutie!) about my 'standard view' room. I had read here that there were some standard views over in the 'courtyard' facing the canal and the Swan/Dolphin ...it was assumed that it was because the sales center had previously blocked the views from these rooms. My question to him was: are these rooms stilll standard view and if so can I have one? He put me in room 2006 which was listed on my sheet as PW. No one had the rooms on either side of me the entire stay. In fact, I only saw evidence of 2 rooms on my floor facing that view that were occupied.

My point is that maybe these rooms are kind of 'swing' view...they might put people in them who booked PW, but then if someone asks specifically...they might have to give a declared standard view room for a standard view points.
If you requested this area for your PW part of the ressie, then I think you might speak with Alfredo and see if you could just stay on IF it is true that these rooms were actually designated SV.

I would waitlist for both weeks, and keep your fingers crossed, and if staying in the same room is what you want, try the other resorts as well! I hate moving mid week, we own another timeshare in St. Maarten, and it is 2 weeks in the same condo, it is AWSOME!! Almost like your own vacation home!! You move right in and no worries!

You will not be upgraded and will HAVE to move if you do not get the reservations changed. Do keep calling back as well as using the wait list. Remember that the wait list is gone at 7 days so you may want to call several times a day starting at 7 days out and check again on check in. You may lose the few extra points but if you don't have to move rooms, it may be worth it.

I had my view changed at check in at BWV a couple of years ago. The CM at the desk called MS for me and was able to secure the change in room type. They deducted the appropriate number of points from my accounts and I enjoyed the Boardwalk view.

They will not do an upgrade to a member staying on points unless they deduct the appropriate number of points from your account, however. That is, unless there are some extenuating circumstances that warrant the change at the last minute such as no standard rooms left when you had reserved one and they need to place you in another view or room type. That is rare, however.

Just wanted to let you know that I was booked for 2 days in a studio Boardwalk view and 1 in a standard view when I made my June reservation. I waitlisted for the other day in the BV so that I wouldn't have to move since we're there such a short time. Within a month I got a reservation in the mail that showed where I got the BV for that one more day and the points to cover the diff from standard to BV were deducted from my account.
