things you bought your kids in WDW

My only prerequiste is that they can only buy items that are only available at DisneyWorld. No pokemon from Japan or toys that they could find back home.

I CONCUR!!! that is my rule as well. Our first trip with the kids last year was with my best friend and his partner. They actually took us to Disney with DVC so it was a great first trip. They had gift baskets sent to the room with ears, snacks, autograph books and pens. They also splurged and took DD to BBB for the big makeover and photo shoot and got DS a pirate costume and the cool dude hair-do at BBB.

Us, as the parents, had given the kids a set amount of Disney Dollars and told them we would buy them a sweatshirt from us. What did they end up with? LOTS Of stuffed animals (many they won at Sea World or AK), a princess fold-up brush, a stich antennae topper (DS bought that for me, the sweetie) and nothing else big that I recall.

For our upcoming trip, I also imposed a rule that they can each get ONE stuffed animal. No more..if they win one, that is their ONE. We had to use a ziplock XL bag for DS's carryon with all the stuffed animals in it last year!!!

they have also been saving money from items in our tag sale (their stuff that they wanted to sell) as well as things I have brought to consignment for them. I just checked and they have $200 between the 2 of them...which will be MORE than enough, and I will probably not let them bring it all. We are doing Sea world, Disney and the Cruise, so they will have to plan accordingly...

We brought glo stick necklaces/bracelets but never even remembered to bring them to the parks! They are still in a bag...

Our last trip was in 2006, but the only thing that I remember buying for the boys was a pirate hat, one where you could get little gems and badges to button on to the side of. They were three then, so they mostly wanted candy, which they got via their DDP snacks. ;) They will be six when we go this time, so I imagine we will be hearing, "OHHHHHH, can I have that, please??!" a lot more often this trip, though.

For us we bought everyone a t-shirt and baseball cap(used the hats all week).
DH and DS bought light sabers
For DD bought the My Little Pony box
DS got a sword and Shield at England
And DD got a stuffed Mickey Mouse

We took nothing with us and the kids were very good about asking for things. I think for there first trip they were so overwhelmed to ask for stuff.

Both of my kids seem more interested in things like a T-Shirt or a Beach Towel.

My youngest likes the Lego Store in DTD...really likes the Lego Star Wars stuff...and that store usually carries stuff I haven't seen online before.

Oldest son started Pin Trading...though he doesn't like to give up many.

They both also like to collect the Dated Toy Buses.

Basically they both have their own money and are pretty selective...we buy them each something as a treat.

Our rule was one thing from each park. DD usually get a stuffed animal--thats just the thing she loves to collect. In addition, she has gotten mickey ears each trip (last time was from the dream squad so it was free! :) ) and one trip she and her daddy got matching Grumpy hats to wear.

On our first trip she didn't ask for anything except a small Tigger from AK; boy has it changed!! :rotfl: She had a bit more of the "gimmes" on this last trip so we have already decided that next time she will have a pre-determined amount of money from us (she can always earn more) to spend.

We brought cheap glow bracelets at Michaels and they were a huge hit this last trip.

What we do is we got a Disney Visa credit card. We use it for most things and pay it off every month instead of our debit card. For every one hundred dollars you spend, you get a disney dollar.. free money in the parks. We had quite a lot this most recent trip and that is stictly spending money! On a normal trip we let them get a shirt and one other thing. With this extra disney dollars they were able to pick something little each day. It was great!

We did the same thing. The best thing about the Disney Visa is you can get a discount at the disney store in downtown if you have one and you can get a free photo at Epcot by showing it as well.

Last time we went as a family, which was in 05

DS got

an autograph book and pen
and a Mickey Sorcerer's Hat from Fantasmic ( only because he was selected to be the Prince for the show )

and in DTD he used his own money to go to town in the Lego Imagination Center...my son is a Lego addict...he has been since he was 4...6 years of the addiction is enough....lol

We went absolutely crazy on souvies last trip because it was my hubby and boys' first trip (so Daddy spoiled them more than I had really wanted...plus it was R&R).

They got...
~Pirate Hat
~Pirate Telescope
~Pirate Hook (my oldest wanted to be a pirate if you cant tell)
~Pirate Mickey Stuffed Animal
~mickey ears personalized each
~mickey clubhouse toy
~lanyard and pins for oldest
~tshirt and shorts
~hoodies (these were on clearance for $10 each)
~pants and jacket (POC themed) because DS2 had an accident in his 1st set of clothing he was in and then threw up (got a bit sea sick after POC) on his 2nd set we brought w/ us.
~Pressed Pennies
~Autograph book
~Pens
~Sippy Cup (DS2 threw his sippy cup we brought and we couldnt find it)

I think that is it. DH and I got a lot too. This time though (Dec) we arent going as crazy since its not their 1st trip and we wont be going the day after we get our tax return either. I'm not getting everyone back home souvies either like we did last time.

This time the kids are earning their money (by helping around the house) for Disney to spend, and then we will get them something like a trip to Pirates League and maybe a hat.

little trinkets from happy meals
some books
pen and notebook from hotel
we played "I spy"
we always have colors and some paper
and lollipops
of course we packed cheerios and fruit loops
2nd favorite blankee...

Her favorite thing was the my little pony set from dtd at Once Upon A Toy.
She loves the ponies and the accessories... It was 19.99 to stuff the box and a Cm helped get everything in. The same concept as the Mr. Potato Head Gear.
One thing that we found interesting is that when we got home our dd discovered her My Little ponies from Target were too big to wear Disney My Little Pony accessories. HA.. had by Disney again... well we love it anyway!
I can't say anything... I have hundreds of dollars of Mr Potato head supplies from Disney. LOL We sit down and play with those it is fun. Peter Pan syndrome I guess.

I also gave DD a set amount to spend and supposedly once it was gone, that was it. I say supposedly because I did cave a buy a couple extra things for her after she'd spent her money. She wanted an Eyeore stuffed animal, and honestly, I gave in and bought it for her because I liked it so much that I wanted to have it. :rolleyes1

I also purchased a lanyard and several pins for her. We were there on her birthday and a couple CMs, upon DD telling them it was her 5th birthday, took pins from their lanyards and gave them to her. That got her interest piqued in pin trading and I decided to support it with a little extra money.

I've set up a system where DD can earn Disney Dollars for good performance in school and various things around the house. We aren't going again until August 2010, and she's on track to have a nice stash of money to spend when we go.

The idea of giving your kids a set amount of spending money is great! My DD will be 2 weeks shy of her 4th birthday when we go next year and it will be her first trip. Do you give a child that age a set amount of money or do you go all out since it is their first trip?:)

since you have such a long way to go you could set up a bank for just disney money (like those really big crayon banks). Then each week if she has helped around the house (if you ask her to do that) and/or has behaved you can give her an allowance to put in there for her trip. Then all that she has earned can go toward her spending. Then if you want to do something big with her (like BBB) you can pay for it as a gift to her. Plus you will probably buy her "my first disney trip" shirt and her ears for her anyway.

Thanks for the advice! She does do some simple "chores" each week and I think that the idea of an allowance (even at her age) sounds great! You're right, we will be buying her ears and "my first disney trip" t-shirt. We're also doing BBB and planning on getting a Grand Welcome from Disney Florist

Oh no really? I'm hoping to get the MLP stuff for DD and just get her ponies from Walmart/Target, etc.

We only purchase items that can be found in WDW and no where else! that includes toys, clothes, jewelry, "stuff", etc. That said, over the years we've allowed them to purchase to their spending limit (they earn $$ and we do a spend down for each item). When they were small, DS's taste ran to figures--which he then had to carry around himself, not just leave in the room and then want to buy another something the next day.Another trip was their "trading pin" phase of 25 pounds of those things:lmao: Since we fly, the purchases had to fit into the luggage or carryons, so that was another parameter. All in all, DS and DD are now 21 and 19 and still look for the unique items rather than the mundane ones.DD buys clothes from Roxy in DTD that you can't find in our part of the country, and DS loves the StarTours items. I gravitate to the special celebration items; it's so much fun to look at them through the years and see how things have changed.:thumbsup2
