Things to fill pinatas.....

We did a Lego party and I made a brick shaped pinata that I filled with Legos (bought B1G1 free). I gave a plastic cup with lid to each kid and they were told that they could fill the cup and that was it. Just like at the Lego store, the lid had to fit :) I bought the cups at a foodservice store.

you have gotten lots of good ideas for items to fill the pinata. I generally prefer the pull-string kind - have even taped on extra strings and had all the kids pull at once to open it. If you do the traditional hitting the pinata with a bat/stick, a tip... the first time we did a pinata that way, I put too much stuff inside the pinata. Not only did it make it harder for the kids to break open (and thus requiring more "bashing") but some of the candy was smashed from the impact. :headache:

have fun!

Not all parents will like this one, but my DNephew loved getting those little rubberry lizards that you would toss and they would stick to the walls and the fall down. They are smushy and would fit in the pinata. It was one of his favorite things from like age 4 to 7. It doesn't damage any walls when it sticks and falls ( I know because he lived in my house)and gets gross later, but then you just toss them. I cannot tell you how much he loves these things. I am actually making a mental note to get one for his stocking next year, he is 18 now.

OP here....thanks for the great ideas! I'm also going to stock up on valentines candy to put in it....their party is the weekend after valentines day. I'm sure the kids won't mind if their candy has a heart on it. ;)

lots of great ideas!

I put the candy/goodies into ziploc bags and put those in the pinata. Each guest received one bag (I did have a couple of extras in case). It was that way or no pinata...
I put erasers, little bouncy balls, candy, and stickers in the ziploc bags.
