Dh works an early morning shift and so he's in the habit of getting up by 4am, even on weekends. On rare occasions he sleeps till 6 or 7 but that's it. I, on the other hand have trouble getting up before 8. The busses aren't running anywhere, the food court at POFQ won't be open for him to get coffee, he's not a jogger. Any ideas of things he can do to occupy himself until I get moving?

We're considering bringing his laptop along so he can surf and play some Pogo while I continue to snooze a couple more hours. I assume you pay extra for that but how does it work? We have broadband and so no dial up service is loaded on his computer. Does WDW have a network you dial into? Is it by the minute or by the day? I'd really like to come back from a day at the parks and load a few pics for my Dis buds to see.

Please help me keep him occupied. When he's bored, he's dangerous :scared1:

Tell him to go on safari. There are numerous little creatures running around until they get scared away by all the people later int he morning. It's fun checking them all out.

I second that. I love getting up super, super early at WDW and just kind of sit outside and take it all in. I'll just stare at a palm tree and think "aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh, I'm at WDW...." Or just watch everything come to life. But that's probably far too uneventful for a lot of people.

This might help: http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/internet.htm

I have a Blackberry that I tether as a broadband modem, so I've never used WDW's service before. I can't vouch for how quickly it runs, but I bet it beats nothing! :)

That's a lot cheaper than I expected. You can still take a laptop as carry on right? There's NO WAY we'd allow it to be thrown around in the checked baggage :scared:

My hubby is also a very early riser. He did sleep in a little while at WDW, but most days he would get up and just go for a walk while I slept. I envied him because the resorts at that hour are just so peaceful and you get to see so much that you didn't get to see before.

We also stayed at POFQ and he would just go for a walk along the river or sit on one of the outside benches and read.

When we were in Jamaica for our wedding, he would get up and go for a walk too. I finally gave him the camera and told him to take some pictures and we really got some great shots of the place in early morning hours. I'll probably have him do this on our next trip to WDW also.

Yes, you can still carry-on electronics. :)

Do you have dial up service at home? We don't, but before my trip I signed up for dial up service so I could use the internet at WDW. I didn't want the wireless, even if it was offered, because I wasn't going to be using it much and didn't want to pay the daily fee. With the dial up I just had to pay for the cost of the phone call. I was then able to use it in the evenings after Jake went to sleep. :cool1: I stayed connected overnight so I could check my e-mail in the morning without an additional charge, and then put the computer away during the day.

I third this suggestion. I too am a early riser. When we were at the Wilderness Lodge I'd often get up at my usual time (4:30am) and wander around. There's lots to see!

I'd try to send my DH down to Walmart with a list ........

But since that option won't fly, he'd be doing his word search puzzles, surfing the web to check the weather, playing his handheld electronic card game (can't remember what it's called) etc. Going outside could be interesting, and probably safe enough for a man ..... but it would still be mostly dark though, wouldn't it? I guess it would depend on time of year.

No, we have cable. Is the phone call that much cheaper? This would be something he'd do from around 5am till 8 or so when I'm ready to go to breakfast and then I'd check in on the PMS thread for a bit at night but we certainly wouldn't spend too much time doing it. All told, maybe 4 hours a day at most. Is the phone call per call or by the minute? We could easily load up a dial up before we go. I'd rather pay 10 for a dial up than 60 for their high speed!

I just got back from Estes Park, and I had no trouble with my laptop as carry-on.

You just need to take it out and put it in its own bin, when you go through security.

Not only can you carry it on, but the Pittsburgh airport is hot, so we can use our broadband. Alas, the Orlando airport isn't. Most laptops will also play DVDs, and he can always load games.

As far as dial-up goes, I'd imagine (I don't know for sure) that you'd get stuck with a whopping phone bill from your hotel. Outside calls usually cost a lot.

WDW charges an outrageous amount for internet service IMO. There may be other hotel chains (if you can call Disney hotels that) that charge that much, but I've never stayed at them.

We stayed at the Drury Inn for one night in Denver and it was free. We stayed at a Holiday Inn in Beaumont Texas and it was free too. This was for wireless in the lobby/common area, and high-speed in the room!

As if we don't already pay enough for a room.

You should have seen us looking for a power outlet at Denver's airport! You can surf the 'net, but I think they provide about 20 outlets for the whole concourse.

You'd see people staking out spots for them. I was one of 'em. :3dglasses

I'm in that boat. I usually grab a paper from the vending box and head toward the lobby to stare at people checking in for the week.

You have to have a local number for the dial up service and it's something like a 75 cent call, no per minute fee. I would call in the evening, Shug, surf the internet and then leave it connected unless you want the phone for the Mickey wake-up call or for anything else, and then he'd have it connected in the morning. Or you can do the wireless if it's offered at that resort, for the daily fee.

POFQ and POR are the best for walking IMHO. I love to just wander the paths there and walk along the river. The landscaping there is so pretty - not that a guy would care, lol.
