Things I just do not understand..

Speaking of plastic bags, I don't understand why some shoppers need to overuse the clear ones for produce. One single lemon in a bag? Or a cantaloupe? Or the pound of whole or baby carrots already in a plastic bag needs to go into a second bag?

They always ask us that too. Back when I drank milk anyway. I want it bagged because sometimes there is leaked milk on the container and I don't want milk souring in the carpet of my Cadillac!

That makes sense.

I have sport cargo liner in my hatchback. They are great.
Just take it out and hose it down.

In other places I've lived they bagged the milk with everything else automatically. It was never a question. Maybe it is an attempt at an environmental thing. But then they are still using the same plastic bags and stuff. Whereas some places out West weren't even providing bags, so as to discourage people from using plastic. Made me feel really stupid until I caught on to that one. Trying to carry an armload of groceries from a store (i think there was actually a Portlandia episode about this!) because I forgot bags.

Eventually I'll live somewhere long enough to fully catch on to local customs.

Or why, when I've selected my produce and specifically NOT put it in produce bags, the cashier often does so before putting it in the grocery bags? I particularly hate this with lettuce, cukes and peppers because those things store better without being wrapped in plastic...

Yeah, in Germany it was sold in boxes. And then we put it in a glass pitcher at home.

But they are asking if I want my plastic milk container inside my plastic bags with my other groceries. It is the only item they ask this about. They single it out every time for some reason and ask if I want it in a bag. It would be like if every time you went to the store they randomly asked if you wanted your bread bagged or not. But automatically bagged all the rest of your groceries. Just seems like an odd thing to ask. I guess in Quebec they'd be putting your bag in a bag.

Btw, I'd love if they just sold the nonperishable milk in the boxes at the regular grocery store. Much easier to buy and store.

Because they get condensation in heat and are heavy. I grew up and live in the Midwest and remember this always being asked. They also ask this about orange juice jugs and gallons of ice cream. Some older people (my grandma and parents) prefer no bag.

My do not understand
Retired people in the grocery store on Saturday morning

Or the soccer mom who brings her daughter and five teammates into the store to pick up a few things while the girls are following her around texting and generally getting in the way.

On s similar note: I can go into a completely empty ladies room with more then a dozen stalls & go into the furthest one. Why does the next woman in have to pick the one right next to me???

She's checking to see if you have the right equipment to be in the ladies room.

Why people can't "get" that Fish Extender groups on other sites and Fish Extender groups on DISboards are NOT exclusive. You can be in a group in both places - it's just not the same group.

I don't understand why 99% of women, even married ones who keep their birth name, give their children the father's surname.

I'm one of these women. I can explain why I did it. I kept my name because I was 32 when I got married and it was a link to my father who died when I was 8. I didn't want to give that up. We gave dd dh's last name because that's the name she would have been given had I chosen the traditional route. I made a choice for me, not my whole family. My child can make her own choice when she's an adult.

I also don't like donuts, bacon or the color orange and I sometimes forget to eat. I do have a lovely teenage dd though. No brattiness tolerated here.

I don't understand why people talk on their cell phones in public restrooms? Whoever is on the other end probably doesn't want to hear all of the sounds they may be hearing. Plus, it is just odd to have someone in the stall next to you talking away.

Produce is weighed and each item has a different cost. If you have lemons, avocados, and apples in the same bag, they would have to be separated at checkout to be weighed. It would be a waste of time.

I've never seen carrots in a bag inside another bag, but I do that with grapes because they bag they come in never closes fully.

I haven't noticed people putting different items into the same bag. I was referring to people who use a bag for a single item with a thick peel, like one lemon or avocado or cantaloupe. Or for something that's already pre-wrapped, like a bag of carrots or a head of iceberg lettuce. I once saw someone struggling to get a small watermelon into a produce bag.

I can understand the rationale in your grapes example, but don't understand the others.

Do the checkouts have rolls of clear plastic bags, or are the cashiers separating your produce into regular grocery bags before putting them into another bag?

I notice that some cashiers will take it upon themselves to double bag chicken or other meats, but never saw it with produce.

I don't understand how people can do crochet and cross stitch for hours on end. It bores me to tears. Heck, I bought a sewing machine that actually does both of those things, and I was still bored.
