Thieves at WDW

when we had a toddler, we would buy one of those $29 strollers for Disney, who would bring a $1800 stroller

Taking a high end $1800 stroller

the concept of an $1800 stroller.

Our stroller was $1500 (NZD) including accessories, we wouldn't nessecarily have all those on us at WDW but we would have the stroller, second seat and sun cover worth over $1000.
Why would we take it to Disney, well with 3 kids under 4 we needed both seats, the Disney ones are not suitable for babies. It also fully reclines so baby could sleep.
Why would we waste money renting a stroller when we already have one?
We clearly named it and also had a name label hidden so if someone tried to claim it we could prove to security that it was ours.
We put a bike lock through one back wheel when we stroller park it, that way a CM can move it to rearrange it if they need to but it isn't easy for someone to just walk off with.
I would never leave anything in it while we left it

Well, that's definitely a very personal decision. We had 3 kids under the age of 4, including a set of twins. I think our stroller(s) cost about $150 total. Sunshade? Check. Recline? Check. Storage? Check? Easy to push? Check. I'm a cheapskate, I fully admit, but I simply can't see where a stroller costing that much brings anything to the table that one 1/10th the price doesn't. Plus, with 3 very young kids, our strollers got beaten to death...puked on, food spilled, drinks spilled, dragged all over, in and out of cars, etc...I could never do that to a $1500 stroller. When we were done with ours we sold it on Craigslist for $50 and were quite happy. We had the same feeling about a family vehicle. No way were we going to spend $40k+ on something we were going to beat the snot out of. Bought a base model minivan for $17k and had no regrets when it got dirty...and it did.

This is why I would never buy an $1800 stroller. Then I wouldn't take it anywhere for fear of it being stolen.

I tried to get my XH to buy a $700 (same bug a boo brand) 11 years ago and he told me I had lost my mind. I got a $200 Graco instead.

I bought my first '66 Impala (in 1978) for $500!.......just saying. ;)

I do not condone thieves but man when you leave valuables in a stroller or anywhere not on your person when riding a ride at WDW or anywhere, you might as well have not locked your car in a massive parking lot, too.

I don't get why anyone would need to take such a stroller on a trip where it would be parked. And definitely not with important items like cash and credit cards.

I bought a pretty nice stroller, but it never left our sight. On trips we would take a cheap umbrella stroller.

I freely admit that we leave our stuff unattended at WDW all the time. However, we're talking a 5+ year old umbrella stroller that was $25 when it was new, a soft sided cooler bag, some food, some $1 WalMart ponchos and maybe some sunscreen. If someone really wants that stuff, have at it...

We have too. But same thing, cheap stroller with sunscreen/ponchos/water. Now that dd is older we just carry a backpack, but I'll admit I did like using the stroller to carry said junk. ;)

I just don't understand why would you leave your wallet and keys in there? Thieves are everywhere! Instead of getting a job, these jerks research high end stuff to steal and that $1800 stroller is a flashing neon saying "take me, take me!"

It's too easy to buy a cheapo stroller for vacations and save the expensive "look what I have" one at home. For some people it's as much a status symbol as their car and house. Our first trip our boys were 3.5 and 5.5 and we didn't take a stroller because 1, they could walk and 2, I didn't want the hassle. Everyone had their own fanny pack. The other issue is why anyone thinks they can leave anything of value anywhere unattended? I see women all the time in the grocery store with their purses sitting in the cart while they wander 5 - 10 feet away. It would be way to easy totake their purse, so why anyone thinks you can leave your valuables completely alone for even 5 minutes is beyond me. I'm 57 and I remember my mom leaving her purse in the cart, in a small town in TX where she knew almost everyone, but once we moved to the DC metro area when I was in elementary school, she never did that again.

The illusion that people have about Disney has always fascinated me. It's a microcosm of every community and don't ever think otherwise.

The way I feel about cars is that if you have to go out if your way to protect against normal wear and tear on a car that means you spent too much. Cars get dinged up and dirty. Too much of your money is tied up in a car if it bothers you when that happens.

I think taking an expensive stroller is fine, as long as you lock the back wheels together so that it cannot be rolled away, or used by anyone else.

As to why someone would spend $1800 on a stroller, who cares? To me it is no different than spending $60,000 on a car when a $2000 one will get you from point a to b. To them it was necessary. Just not smart to not lock it up a bit.

But it was the 'worst day ever'!!!! And she needed to be 'rescued'!!!!

I was on that other thread too...I'm starting to sense that the 'victim' is hoping to cash in on the situation....maybe I'm wrong.

At least she had her priorities straight. She kept her cell phone with her, so it was easy to call to be rescued.

I have a feeling her husband married her for reasons other than her brains.

I just recently had a mickey hand( felt hand on a stick my sister made as a parade waver) stolen out of my backpack while waiting in line for a ride. I thought my backpack kind of tugged funny but I chalked it up to being crowded and people bumping into me.
