Next week we are going to make our first trip to actually camp at FW. Are there ever problems with people stealing things from camp sites, like chairs, lights, bikes, grills, etc.?

We usually leave everything out because we are always in the campground but of course we will be going to the parks and stuff. I am just wondering if I need to pack everything up before we head out to the parks.
Thanks for your input.

There was a post about this recently, and it's rarely ever a problem. Of course it happens, and I wouldn't make it easy for anyone to take something (don't put your BBQ right next to the road...lol), but for the most part it's a rare occurence and I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Most people leave their "accessories" out during the day, you can feel safe.

That being said, it CAN occur, so don't quote me ;)

I'm sure thieves are everywhere so maybe just prepare for the worst. Not sure if anybody here has had any complaints though.

There's thieves everywhere. Have you looked at what they charge for some f the stuff in the gift shop?? $12.00 for a six pack of beer?
:rotfl2:

Gator you crack me up. I rarely lock the door when we're gone to the pool or all day.

I would lock up a laptop or whatever stuff like that.

hah, good one :) Nothing amazes me more than the prices of alcohol at Disney, normally it's supposed to be CHEAPER if you buy the alcohol outside of the bar....lol

It's pretty much like any other campground. There's sort of a "camper's code" we call it, where other campers don't bother with your stuff and you don't bother theirs. But, of course, just because I think there's a "code" doesn't really mean there is!! :rotfl2:

That being said....we always leave our stuff out during the day. It's inside our zipped-up screen tent. Coolers, electric appliances, grills, propane lanterns, etc, etc.

We had a cooler stolen one time in 1988. We got the cooler back eventually, minus the food. But since then, we've never had any troubles.

If it's something you absolutely, positively, cannot live without, lock it in your car. :upsidedow

I think coolers are often the target of thieves...mostly it's it teens looking for the beer in the coolers! We've had this problem a few times in the campground we are seasonal in. Locals kids from the area know how to get in..without accessing the main entrance and help themselves to the coolers of the nightly campers. Usually the coolers are found..minus the alcoholic beverages!;)

I had my bike stolen in march of this year. We parked our bikes in the bike rack at the Settlement to catch the bus to MGM. When we got off the bus 3 hrs. later my bike was gone and my bike helment was placed on my dd bike handle. No we didn't lock the bikes-stupidity on our part-we thought "it's Disney". bad answer-like everyone has said thieft is EVERYWHERE.
The CM tod us people get lazy especially teens and they ditch the bike in the canals later. :confused3 Well, it wasn't found before we left-3 days later.
So we rented golf cart for a day :goodvibes Still wish i had my bike because it was a long walk back to the site.:guilty:

Just be aware...

That's awful about your bikes. It goes to show you that you can't let your guard down just because your on vacation. These things happen anywhere, but when you are away your generally in such a relaxed state of mind..and don't want to think about things like that...but I guess your less likely to have a bad experience if you still take the proper precautions..like locking the bikes. Thanks for the reminder.:thumbsup2

We had someone try to beak in to our MH about 3 years ago while we sleep. But after our dog got him Disney security was on him to.

Oh my gosh...that must have been scary.:scared1:
Gotta wonder what someone is thinking when they do that. They are lucky. They could easily have gotten a butt full of bullets and not just a dog bite or two.

Well good think for him we check our guns at the front desk so they were lock in safety deposit boxes up front. But think our doberman got the piont a cross.

A Doberman...ouch:scared1: ..that had to hurt. Good doggie:thumbsup2

Two years ago we had our towels stolen out of the dryer at the comfort station. Not a big deal, but disappointing. In March 2006 I watched from the comfort staion as two little girls got on my kids bikes and began to ride away. Needless to say, I gave chase and caught up with them at their cabin. I explained to them that the bikes belonged to my children and took them back. The girls didn't speak english and I believe that they thought the bikes were just more Disney magic. I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't seen this happen. Now we lock up our bikes when we are away from them or they are out of our sight. Like anywhere else, I think a little precaution goes a long way. Disney is a wonderful place but they don't have a magic detector to keep out theives.

We were there in March and although we locked the motorhome during the day while we were gone, our outside stuff was left alone. Our radio/CD player, and our grill were fine.

I did go into the laundry to gather our things from the dryer one evening to find them missing. As I was leaving, another woman entered, asked if I was looking for the clothes that had been in the dryer. After I explained that I was, she smiled, pointed to my basket in the corner with all of my FOLDED laundry in it. She explained that she noticed all of the kids clothes and knew dinner time could be hectic for a mother with small children so she just folded mine while she was waiting for hers to wash! :faint: No kidding! Talk about spreading the Disney magic, what an incredible kindness!

Wish that would happen at home!!:rotfl2:

That is just incredibly nice.;)

On another thread (about hotel rooms), people were saying how they left their jewelry, computers, etc. out and had no problems.

I try not to do anything that I'd not do at another hotel. I'd not leave a bike unlocked, I'd not leaving anything laying around in the open that I wanted to keep. Disney does often seem much safer and less like there would be theft than other places - but it's not perfect, and you have to use the same precautions you would elsewhere.
