Thieves at FW

There's thieves everywhere. Have you looked at what they charge for some f the stuff in the gift shop?? $12.00 for a six pack of beer?

LMAO!:rotfl2: And that is for domestic beer. I think a 6 pack of import is like $16.00!

When I was up just a week or so ago someone at the Meadows purchased a newspaper and 2 pack of cigarettes...over $14.00!!! I think if I smoked I would have quit on the spot.

Yea, the beer prices are ridiculous at Disney, I guess they realize people are on vacation and are willing to pay whatever for a brew. Quite a few times while on vacation at Disney I've decided to buy a bottle of rum here or there, only to wake up the next day and wonder what happened to all of my money....lol.

Thanks for starting this thread. I hadn't even thought about this, but now that I am, it's time for the dumb question(s) of the day. Are the safe deposit boxes only for gun storage, or can we use one to store things we can't have stolen (cruise papers, passports, credit cards, etc)? Are they available to all FW guests? Is there a charge?

The safe deposit boxes are for whatever you want to put in them, not just gun storage. I'm sure quite a few people travel with very important documents and don't want to leave them unattended while away from their campsite.

I tried to find some info on pricing but couldn't find any, but I'm sure it's either free to FW guests or probably not much of a charge.

I lock my RV..no matter where it is..even on my own driveway. We have had theives break into cars in our neighborhood at Christmas time because they know that people have presents in their trunks. Especially cars with out of state plates. My neighbors mom and dad were visiting from Fla. and they had a car full of gifts for their only grandchild for Christmas..and sure enough during the night...the car was broken in to(and it had an alarm..) and the gifts were taken. Very discouraging to think someone would do this at Christmas. I wouldn't want to chance not locking. Why make it easy for someone. Of course if there isn't anything in there you would miss if someone walked off with it..then it's a none issue.

If a thief wants to violate my space at the fort and enter my rv un welcomed ....is it my fault that I did not lock it?

I wouldn't stay in one of the resorts..and not lock the door when I left the room. I don't think I'd feel any different about FW..or any campground I've stayed in.
A thief is a thief..and I imagine if they really want to get in..they will find a way. I do remember hearing of theives going in the roofs of locked RV's..so if it's something they want to do. I imagine they are going to do so. In my experience...I just don't want to make it that easy for them..guess they're gonna work for it if they want in:rotfl: .
I think most of the theft in campgrounds is by kids walking by..and seeing the "candy"..the bike that's unlocked..or something left on the picnic table, coolers where they're looking for beer...and they are just gonna run with it.

To any would be thief (shame on you),

My rv will be parked in the 100 or 200 loop some time in late jan. or early feb. 2008....My rv will be small and appear used......my belongings consist of an older tent outside unlocked nothing of much value there.....inside the rv will consist of basic camping stuff, priceless to me, worthless to a crook...but if you do happen along and find my rv keys, I'd appreciate it if you could leave them on the picnic table.........I know the nice guy that I bought this rv from gave them to me but I have not seen them since may 2002...

Thanks again TNT

Ps. please lock my rv when you leave(shame on me)

Call me old fashion....but I refuse to bow down to societies short comings...

At the fort I will continue to stand up for right.....in a society that has gone terribly wrong.....no fear here...

If you don't lock your door at home because you don't think it's right that you should have to, and then someone enters your house and does something horrible, what exactly have you proven? Same for an R/V, what have you proven? What have you changed? What have you stood up for?

I would rather stand up to a thief by not allowing him to enter my domicile than to make it overly easy for him. Safety and security go back to the dawn of civilization. People have always stolen, people have always burglarized. To make yourself an easy victim only proves traits that I hope most people don't want to prove.

If a thief wants to violate my space at the fort and enter my rv un welcomed ....is it my fault that I did not lock it?

There is an old saying. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Imo we are a camping community.......the vast majority being friendly law abiding campers.....we talk with our neighbors and we watchout for them as well......the reason there is not alot of thefts, is not that people lock up....its just the opposite...they open up......they look.... they listen.....THEY CARE....

What can we learn from this....?

Go home to your neighbor and take the time to talk with them....find out his first name....and last.....care...beaware....have a sense of community.....like it use to be......

I will take a good healthy neighborhood watch program over any security system out there....

The beauty of it......It won't cost you a dime....just your time...

I am not motivated by fear........ imo

Actually most of the people in this thread have said that they do lock their campers, lock their bikes, etc... So far in this thread it's only been unlocked items that have been stolen. I agree, the majority of campers at the Fort are friendly and law abiding, but that's just like society, most people are friendly and law abiding, you still have to watch out for those that aren't.

I live in a great neighborhood, and it is very close knit compared to some surrounding communities. We exchange fruits and foods from our trees and gardens, and talk when we can. Neighborhood watches are always a great idea.

That being said, I'll take a good healthy neighborhood watch program AND a security system please :)

Let me break out my Kumbaya lyrics right away...lol

Edit: Totally off topic, but interesting fun fact, when trying to figure out how to spell Kumbaya, I came across the following tidbit of info:

"Kumbaya, my Lord" started out in the 1920s as a Gullah spiritual sung on the islands of South Carolina between Charleston and Beaufort. Gullah is the creole featured in the Uncle Remus series of Joel Chandler Harris and the Walt Disney production of "Song of the South." "Come by here, my Lord" in Gullah is "Come by (h)yuh, my lawd".

Two years ago we had our towels stolen out of the dryer at the comfort station. Not a big deal, but disappointing. In March 2006 I watched from the comfort staion as two little girls got on my kids bikes and began to ride away. Needless to say, I gave chase and caught up with them at their cabin. I explained to them that the bikes belonged to my children and took them back. The girls didn't speak english and I believe that they thought the bikes were just more Disney magic. I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't seen this happen. Now we lock up our bikes when we are away from them or they are out of our sight. Like anywhere else, I think a little precaution goes a long way. Disney is a wonderful place but they don't have a magic detector to keep out theives.

I'd run a cable lock on anything that would hurt financially to replace - grill, bikes, kids...

Somehow, no matter how often I cable lock my kids, they always seem to come back (or are returned) after being stolen.:confused3

You sound like my husband! My younger son is VERY SOICAL..and when we first started camping he would meet kids through out the campground...we would have to hunt him down, he would be gone all day. Finally gave him a bright yellow visor(then a cell phone!) so I could spot him out on ball field, biking, game rooms, or wherever other kids were. I would remind him NOT to go into anyones trailer. To remember the same rules applied to camping as at home. He wasn't to go into a strangers house..and when camping not to go into someones trailer..unless mom and dad know about it. My husband would shake his head...:sad2: ....and quietly mutter "Don't worry about it...no one's gonna take him...and if they do..believe me.. they'll bring him back":rolleyes1
