~~ They're leaving the nest, sew it's time for a trip - or two - or three...~~ D~'s bag ~9/22 ~~

Sounds like a wonderful, busy weekend. I'm glad everything worked out for the party. Good luck this week getting Allison ready for her trip.

It looks like everyone had a good time! I can see the beauty of that counter even covered in food!

I'm with Mo on this one...stay super busy this week...less time to ponder things!

From someone who has been there...it will be tough at first when she goes, but when you see them doing what they were meant to do out in the world, you will be able to breathe and say it is all good...and so worth it!

{{HUGS}} my friend...

It looks and sounds like the party was wonderful! And I'm so glad you relaxed a bit last night! I know this will be a difficult week...many, many, many hugs for you....you're in my thoughts and prayers!

So glad the party went well and that the weather was nice. You never have enough time to spend with everyone when you have a party like that.

So nice that V was able to showcase her work.

As for Allison, I wish her safe travels and a wonderful time ~ (I hope she shares some pictures.) I know how difficult it will be on you watching her go. I will be thinking of you and sending you hugs.

We had a great time! It was wonderful seeing everyone! :lovestruc

Thank you - It was great! It was just so nice to have everyone here - I need to do that more often. :lovestruc

Thanks... I've been doing a lot of crying. I cannot believe that she will be gone in a matter of days... All of the "what ifs" are eating me up inside. I just keep reminding myself that over there, it's just like here and she will be OK... She will be with family the entire time - or most of it, and she will be OK. Ahhhh - I am going to miss her so much! :(

I hope so - there were a few people that traveled hours to get here and I barely had a chance to say hello to them. I feel terrible. I need to send them a note and apologize. ::yes::

Thank you - Trying hard to get back into "life" and eating well and taking care of me... It's not good that we have over 5 dozen leftover cupcakes - Josh is taking most of them with him to work today and I am back at it hard. ::yes::

Hi there! Welcome! :lovestruc I love reading TRs and PTRs, so fun - sadly - I have not had a spare moment to read anyone's lately... I look forward to getting back into it asap. ::yes::

WOW!!! Congratulations! I wish I could say that I've maintained my loss - but I have not... I've gained a bit back and lost a lot of body composition over the course of the last 3 months... I am looking forward to getting back on track today! :woohoo: My body needs it, my mind needs it, everyone around me needs it. LOL Heavy lifting is such a powerful and amazing thing - I admit, I have a love/hate relationship with it. I love the results - I hate doing it. LOL I've only been able to lift intermittently over the last few months - so I look forward to having a legitimate schedule again... Hopefully it won't take me too long to get my previous body comp back? :scratchin Not that it was anything wonderful, mind you. LOL

I love my Dis friends - I've met so many wonderful people and some of my best friends here... I am very lucky. Suzi, Mo and I have some great times together - that's for sure! ::yes:: And Kathy has become a great friend, as well. Such beautiful people and kindred spirits! :lovestruc

Thank you! I love making them! It's so much fun! And I love adding magic to Disney trips!

Enjoy - and thanks for stopping by!

Welcome back! I was JUST thinking about you last night! :lovestruc Sooo funny that you should post. I never go back and read my old TRs - but I happened to be reading through Allison's grad trip and I noticed one of you posts... I wondered how you were doing and what was new? I hope you are having a good summer - it's great to see you!

Thank you - It is such a relief to have it all over. I am not looking forward to Allison leaving at all - but at the same time, I am so excited for the adventures she will have... To visit another country is one thing - but to actually LIVE there among family and friends is a totally different experience - and as an added bonus - she will be living approx 30 minutes from where Josh's ancestors originated from - so she really will be "going home"... I cannot wait to hear all about it.

Yes! Send me a PM - I'd love to meet up if it works out! :lovestruc

Wishing you the best of luck - But what a wonderful accomplishment for him! :lovestruc I am trying to learn to take every day as it comes - but it also doesn't hurt to prepare yourself for some of the hard stuff - IMO. I understand - hopefully by then, it will be much easier, since you've had time to mentally prepare for it. :lovestruc

It's great to see you back! :lovestruc

That is awesome! Best of luck to you! Sadly - I am not really running anymore. I may try to pick it up again at the lake this summer, and see if I can get back into it again... Life just kind of threw me for a loop this spring, with Allison graduating and redoing the house. It's back to normal today. :lovestruc

I agree - at some point, there has to be a way to find the good in the bad, or it consumes us. I firmly believe this. Overcoming it and moving on is all part of growing up. yes - we all have to choose to move forward, and sometimes it's a definite choice, not something that just happens naturally. I am glad that you were able to choose to move forward. :lovestruc It takes a strong individual to do that.

Thanks for stopping by - it was wonderful to meet you. :lovestruc

******************************************************************************************************

OK all - Trying to get back to "normal life" today.

Yesterday was a really nice day... I spent the morning cleaning the kitchen and living room. There wasn't much to be done - but a bunch of stuff to put away really.

We had over 5 dozen cupcakes left... Pretty sure I polished off a dozen of those myself... That frosting! Gah! Sending 4+ dozen to work with Josh this morning... Getting them out of my house asap! If they aren't here, I don't have an issue with them!

We also have most of our yard put back to rights... We still have to put the grills back on the deck, and rearrange the deck properly... And a few chairs to bring back down to the shed, but the front is back together and looking very nice.

I brought the farmhouse table into the house (it's broken down, legs are off of it) - so I can get it painted and swapped out with the big dining room table. That likely won't happen until the weekend though.

And that's it... We spent our evening just breathing and relaxing... It felt odd to do that - as we have had a VERY full plate for way too long now. But it was nice.

Today... I have to run to town right away this morning... V has a full week ahead of her, and so does Allison - not to mention me. No rest for the weary right? LOL

I plan to work out here in a few minutes - if I don't do it right away, as usual, it won't get done. I must refocus as I've had enough time to goof off and my body is paying dearly for it.

Then I will be in my sewing room all day... I need to work while I can this week, so I don't fall too far behind. Plus I need to start working on V's trip again.

I hope you all have an amazing day. I'll try to go back and do the replies I missed as the week goes on, but please forgive me if I don't get to it - Allison is my priority this week and I need to make the most of her being home. :lovestruc

D~

Well, weight loss and activity is not easy as you know. I'm sure you'll be back to it soon enough! Deadlifts are my favorite with squats coming in dead last. As in super dead last. I love feeling strong and healthy so it's all worth it.

I jumped ahead...like way ahead!
Your kitchen looks great! Love all of the colors and the counter is beautiful!! Also, I bought those same curtains you have in your living room last year at Pier 1 (my favorite store!!) but once I put them up, I thought they clashed too much with my very colorful paisley rug and so they went back to the store. It was a sad day.

Love, love, love the poster V made for Alli. So cute!!

Congratulations to Alli on her graduation! What a lovely and bittersweet time in her life and yours and Josh's as well. I am so not looking forward to my son's graduation next year. It makes me so incredibly sad to even think about. Proud but still, so sad for so many reasons.

Congratulations also to V for getting accepted into Art School! Wow!! That's amazing and you must all be so very proud.

You have a beautiful family and I'm so happy I have 'rediscovered' you. It dawned on me that you're the one that made Kathy's Dumbo bag awhile back when I asked her about it after seeing her post a picture. You have a warm and genuine spirit and that's a beautiful thing.

Also, cupcakes?!! Ahhhh...I could eat my weight in cupcakes. Smart of you to send them away!!

I'm glad that everything fell into place so well for you. It sounds like Victoria's special event could not have worked out better. It is nice that she was able to have so many family members there. That was nice to have something special for her, too, that day.

It looks like the graduation party went well. Everyone looks relaxed in that picture. I hope Allison enjoyed her party. You certainly worked hard for it.

I know that you will miss Allison a lot while she is gone on her European adventure. In spite of the fact that she will experience a lot of wonderful things, she will miss you, too. Just make sure you can do International phone calls without it costing a fortune.

Yes - it was extra special to have something very important to both girls on this day - it was really cool. :lovestruc We are very proud of her!

It did go well, and Allison was very appreciative of it. It was just a lot of fun and very much worth it - all of the hard work and preparation, I am so glad we did it. It is such a relief to have the house - at least the main parts of it - finished. ::yes::

It's going to be tough - it truly is, but she will have a wonderful time and I keep trying to remember that.

Are you settling back into life after your trip? ;)

I was watching Facebook waiting for pictures!!! and nothing. blah.

Well my friend you must keep busy now as the more time you have to sit the more time you have to think.. No thinking!

so i have that solution on your Not a photographer and a seamstress.. keep it in your thoughts. and just leaving it out there.

Glad it all went great!!!

Yah - because dumb me didn't take any pictures. :( Well, I took 3... Pretty disappointed in myself.

I know - I am trying hard not to think about it - but it's hard.

Hehehehe... You can come and take pictures any time you want.

It's a relief to have it over and to go back to my "lazy" life. :lmao:

Sounds like a wonderful, busy weekend. I'm glad everything worked out for the party. Good luck this week getting Allison ready for her trip.

Thanks - it was a lot of fun... Now the hard part begins.

It looks like everyone had a good time! I can see the beauty of that counter even covered in food!

{{HUGS}} my friend...

I think everyone had a good time? I hope they did anyways. :lovestruc Ahhh - good - LOL - I was so disappointed that after all that work, my kitchen was totally trashed for the whole day

I hope so - thank you for that. :lovestruc Hopefully it's much easier than what I am anticipating.

It looks and sounds like the party was wonderful! And I'm so glad you relaxed a bit last night! I know this will be a difficult week...many, many, many hugs for you....you're in my thoughts and prayers!

It was very nice and very fun - glad it's over. LOL

Thank you - I am making my way through it, one day and one moment at a time. I think she is purposefully doing things to annoy me - there are times when I tell myself that I can't wait for her to go... But I truly don't mean it... gonna miss her like crazy!

True - I was so bummed that I didn't get time with everyone. Thankfully they are all understanding. We were very lucky with the weather - we could have made it work inside - but it would have been tight.

Yes - we are so proud of her - such a wonderful opportunity and to be able to have something so special on a day that was about Allison too - it was really cool. We couldn't have planned it better.

Allison will be sharing pictures, for sure. It's going to be an amazing and memorable time in her life - and I cannot wait to hear all about it. :lovestruc

Thank you.

I don't blame you for skipping ahead - there's too much chatter to read about all of it. LOL

I am back at it - maybe not as hard core at the moment as I typically am - but I haven't fallen off the wagon completely - so that's a blessing. ::yes:: I just have a lot of work to do ahead of me... Thankfully I have a Disney trip on the horizon to look good for. LOL

I think I am right there close to you... I enjoy deadlifts very much, but I really detest squat day... I am not sure if it's because of my weak knees? Or if it's something else? I've really had to play around with my form and my foot placement, to be able to get the proper form, yet not feel weak in my knees as badly... It's been a process for sure.

Thanks - the kitchen was so much work and such a mess - I am so glad to have it over! I love my living room curtains, but I still feel like they throw my room off in some way - I still haven't decided if they are staying up or not? I may try to look for something different at some point - but until then, I do like them a lot, so they are staying. :) I am just having issues, now, with the fact that my living room is such a different style than my kitchen is, and they are connected. ::yes:: I just keep telling myself, that's how it would have been 100 years ago, the living room would have been much more formal in a farmhouse than the kitchen was... So, then I am OK with the difference. LOL

It's been a difficult few weeks with her graduating, and definitely bittersweet... but it's even harder now that she is leaving. I knew this day would come - but I am not looking forward to having her so far away for so long. I still cry about it a lot... Hopefully I am done crying by the time I have to take her to the airport, because my crying will just make it all the harder for both of us.

Thank you - we are so very proud of V - such an amazing accomplishment for her! The talent she has, just blows me away!

Thank you. :lovestruc Yes - i did make Kathy's Dumbo bag - one of my favorites. I am glad you are enjoying my PTR... Looking forward to getting back to all things Disney again! ::yes::

The cupcakes are GONE - thankfully... Josh took most of them to work with him yesterday... We have one lone straggler left that Josh claimed last night... So hopefully that temptation is gone. I find, once I allow sugar back into my life - I have a terrible time getting rid of it again. It's going to be a rough and dedicated few weeks ahead of me, for sure. ::yes::

****************************************************************************************************

Well, I don't have much to update on from yesterday... I worked out right away yesterday morning.

Allison and I had to run into town right after... She has been having some ear and throat pain - and I just wanted to be double-double sure that she didn't need to be on antibiotics or anything before she leaves... I want her going over healthy. So, the Dr did a strep test, and also a full mono panel just to be safe... If she doesn't have any of those things - she is instructed to go on antibiotics, which we already have on hand, just to be safe.

We also had to run a few errands in town.

I came home and went straight upstairs to work, and I worked all day. I was able to finish last weeks order - which was a difficult one and set myself up to start this week's order today... Just praying I can stay caught up through the next 2 weeks, as Allison leaves and I adjust to a different family life.

The flowers we gave Allison for graduation on the table, I love having fresh flowers... And also my Starbucks Disney mugs from Cindy on my China hutch - not the place I want to display them, but I do want them out for the time being - so this is where they went until I get the shelves up for my coffee nook.

One of our neighbors was coming for dinner last night - but she had to cancel at the last minute, which was a bummer - but we totally understood. It feels good to have my kitchen back again, so I can do things like that! ::yes:: We are not big entertainers - but we are social people, and enjoy gathering... So, I am looking forward to just being able to have people over again. :lovestruc

Last night, Allison worked on her thank you cards from graduation... Gonna miss this girl!

20160620_203649.jpg

That's about all for yesterday...

Today is a heavy lifting day - so I will be doing that right away.

Then I have to run to town this morning... And I will be working all day.

I promised Allison a day of shopping tomorrow for all of her last minute items - so I need to work hard today to be able to take tomorrow off. ::yes:: Just trying to get through this week.

I hope you all have a wonderful day! Pixie Dust to all of you! :grouphug:

D~

I hope Allison gets well soon.

It sounds like yesterday wasn't too hectic for you.

So question about the starbucks mugs...the tall one...does it have a cover (or insert at the top)? I never saw this one on my trip this May...although I did by myself the Epcot one.

Allison's trip...have you talked to your insurance about her traveling and what she needs to do if she needs medical attention (for stuff like this)? At least she will have people to help her navigate anything she may encounter there. (I have vivid memories of being in Paris, walking into a drug store....where we were greeted by a large Irish Wolfhound!...and trying to find some cough drops, lol! It was kind of an interesting game of pantomime! We were off the beaten path in Paris, but the dog in the drug store kind of freaked me out (and I LOVE dogs))

You will get what needs to be done today! Have fun shopping tomorrow!

All your hard work paid off! It was fun following along and watching your home transform. Looks like the party was a big success. I know what you mean about how quickly the house gets trashed once the party begins. Last summer we had a big anniversary party - we worked so hard to get everything looking perfect but it quickly went to h-ll in a hand basket :rotfl2:My experience with kids leaving is it's horrible when they go but then you get used to a new normal. When they come back, you then have to adjust to them being back home. It sounds like a wonderful opportunity for her!

"I think I am right there close to you... I enjoy deadlifts very much, but I really detest squat day... I am not sure if it's because of my weak knees? Or if it's something else?"

I hate squats too! Well actually lunges. My arms can burn like crazy and it is okay, but leg burn is the worst. But only in free form. I used to go to a place called "it figures". It was like Curves but you could actually adjust the weight on the machines. They had a squat machine that I never minded using. And it worked well. I don't know why free form I find so killer.

Glad to hear the party went well. Have a great week.

I hope she feels better soon! My husband is still trying to recover from whatever bug he has...he is planning to leave to drive out to Utah tomorrow and we're hoping he doesn't take any germs with him...the last thing we need is my father-in-law getting sick (he's on maintenance chemotherapy for his cancer).

I had to laugh at your comment about thinking she might be purposefully doing things to annoy you....I thought the same thing when my oldest daughter was getting ready to leave for college, and my Mom said the same thing about all five of us. I was talking to a psychologist friend and she told me that it actually is a real thing that many kids do when they're preparing to leave home, whether for an extended trip or college...it's a subconscious thing that they do because they feel like if we're upset with them (or they're upset with us) then it won't be so hard on either side for them to be gone. Totally subconscious. I thought that was interesting. So there may be something to that...LOL

The fresh flowers are gorgeous -- I love the way fresh flowers brighten up a room.

Hugs to you!!!!

Those flowers were beautiful! I hope Allison feels better quickly and enjoy shopping! Shopping before a trip is always fun!

Wow you have been super busy but hopefully a lot of fun was had too!! I do hope she feels better before leaving...stinks to get sick right before...but I guess better now than later.

I hope Allison gets well soon.

It sounds like yesterday wasn't too hectic for you.

Thank you - I think she is OK for the most part, it's just a bothersome type sick and not super sick thing. If that makes sense?

Nah - it wasn't too bad... Just trying to go back to "normal" after several weeks of craziness - it's strange. I always feel like I should be doing something, but I really don't need to be - not at the moment anyways.

So question about the starbucks mugs...the tall one...does it have a cover (or insert at the top)? I never saw this one on my trip this May...although I did by myself the Epcot one.

Yes - there is a cover that is inserted at the top - it screws in, I believe? I haven't actually used that one yet - as I only drink cold drinks in the summer. ::yes:: But it definitely has a lid.

Yes - I did the insurance talk months ago... Even though Josh is a federal employee - our insurance across the pond sucks. Essentially - any medical care she needs will have to be paid in full with cash - then after that's done, we can submit the bill and the insurance will decide if it was "necessary" or not - and we may or may not be reimbursed. :( Praying she is very healthy for the whole trip.

Thanks - I am looking forward to spending the day with her today... And terrified for her to leave - but trying hard not to think about it.

All your hard work paid off! It was fun following along and watching your home transform. Looks like the party was a big success. Thanks - I am glad you enjoyed it. It's so nice now just to sit here and know that there is nothing left to do - in those rooms anyways. ::yes:: Our next project - we are thinking August - is we plan to gut the main floor bathroom... I've already been pinning ideas for that project. Hopefully it will be a little less rushed & thankfully we have 2 bathrooms, so it will be inconvenient, but not terrible.

Yes - it was a lot of fun - but it sure did go down hill fast. LOL Out of all of it - I am just glad I was able to get the 2 main rooms in my house completed, down to the trim... That is a HUGE accomplishment for us. :scratchin

I am definitely not looking forward to her leaving - but we will adjust - I know it. ::yes:: I am very excited to see the world through her eyes though. :lovestruc

"I think I am right there close to you... I enjoy deadlifts very much, but I really detest squat day... I am not sure if it's because of my weak knees? Or if it's something else?"

Glad to hear the party went well. Have a great week.

The thing with free form vs. Smith machine squats - is that the Smith machine actually forces your body to do squats wrong (there is lots of research on this out there, if you want to Google) - so it is very bad for a person to do them that way. Doing barbell squats actually forces your body into the correct position naturally, so there is less risk for injury - but it also requires an inner balance, which targets inner muscle layers... So, yes - it's harder, because you are working harder and digging deeper. Does that make sense?

I guess I really don't like lunges either - LOL - but they are better with shoes. Seeing as I lift barefoot (there's research on this too) - I have to put my shoes on for lunges, or I slide all over. ::yes:: Which isn't good with heavy weights in your hands. LOL

Thanks - same to you!!! :lovestruc

Get well soon!!!

I am so in love with your renovations...

Thanks - I think she is OK??? Just mama bear being overly cautious. ::yes::

Thank you - I really like them too - I cannot wait to finish the steps and move on to the bathroom. Just giving myself a break for a week or two. ::yes::

I hope she feels better soon! My husband is still trying to recover from whatever bug he has...he is planning to leave to drive out to Utah tomorrow and we're hoping he doesn't take any germs with him...the last thing we need is my father-in-law getting sick (he's on maintenance chemotherapy for his cancer).

Hugs to you!!!!

Thanks - I think she is OK - for the most part... I just want to make sure she is healthy before she goes over.

I hope your DH has a good trip and he is healthy - I agree, you don't want your FIL getting sick. :lovestruc

That makes sense - over the last few days, she is driving me crazy! LOL That kid!

Those flowers were beautiful! I hope Allison feels better quickly and enjoy shopping! Shopping before a trip is always fun!

Thank you! I really love having fresh flowers - I am not sure if we got them more for her or for me? LOL

Thanks - I think she is OK - it's just me being overly cautious right now. Better safe than sorry. ::yes::

We will have fun today - and we will enjoy it... Hopefully we will be able to get everything on her list.

Hi D,
Just a note to mention that I started a trip report for Disneyland Paris for anyone who wants to follow along.
Karen

Thanks Karen! I am excited to read. Do you have a link? I will try to get over there next week... This week is too crazy for me to get anything extra done. LOL

Wow you have been super busy but hopefully a lot of fun was had too!! I do hope she feels better before leaving...stinks to get sick right before...but I guess better now than later.

Thanks - yes - it was a lot of fun... It was great to see everyone and so nice that so many were able to make it. :lovestruc

I think she is doing better already - it's just me being overly cautious right now... Definitely better now to have her checked out than while she is over there. ::yes::

**************************************************************************************************

Yesterday was a really great day - it feels good to be back to "normal" again.

I did my heavy lifting in the morning...

Then I had to run to town...

Then I came home and worked like crazy all day. I was able to accomplish what I needed to yesterday - PLUS I was able to start a side project... :woohoo: I need to get as much extra work done as I can over the next few weeks... I have a trip to pay for, remember? LOL

I had my Tuesday meeting last night, and then I came home and sat on my tablet for the rest of the night.

Trying very hard to cope and deal with Allison leaving... It's hard. :lovestruc

Today... I will work out this morning, then I will work upstairs for a little while. This afternoon, Allison and I will head out to go shopping... It should be a fun day. ::yes::

I hope you all have a great day! Sending pixie dust out to all of you! :)

D~

I'm glad to hear you accomplished everything you needed to AND start on a side project :woohoo:

I hope you have a great day shopping with Allison today :)

Congratulations to Allison!! The house looks great and it looks like it was a great party. Hang in there the next few days. You can do this. ❤️

Hope Allison is feeling 100% now. The flowers are so pretty! I am glad that your party went well. Enjoy your time with Allison and have a great day! :)
