Checking through the Rent/Trade Board it seems as though the "can't afford more than..." - "help my kids get a wonderful vacation" bunch is at it again.

Subsidize my vacation, please???!!!

I think points should rent for at least $12.00.
They've been too low for too long.
Gotta go put my (flameproof) suit on! :rotfl2:

UNBELIEVABLE!!! I had points up for rent recently, I dropped to $9.00 per point and I said final offer. I though that was pretty low and someone was like, oh, by the way would you take $8.00 per point? UH..... NO!!!

PLEASE don't raise your points I just know I didn't buy in with enough and it's nice to know I can get some transfered in on the cheap.

This so annoys me!!!!! "Willing to pay" $7 a point? "Can pay no more than $7 per point..."

I worked very hard to purchase my points, as I'm sure many others did, too. I won't even think of renting them for this amount. The points were costly, and the maintenance fees are high--why should we give the points away?!? :confused3

Well I think its way too low, why shouldn't these people do this, you shouldn't be mad at the buyers(renters), its the sellers(owners) that you should be mad at!! If there willing to onload theirepoints for 8.00 a point, then they are the ones devauling DVC, all they have to say is NO, and eventually they will find a buyer for 10, 12 or 14 a point! But this is a NOW society, and people don't have patience to wait things out.

Of course, there are many things that impact the price people charge for renting points. If you need to rent the points quickly because they are about to expire, then the prices are cheaper. Of course, some folks will rent their points cheaper to other DVC members.

I do wish the norm rental price per point was closer to $12-15 per point. That would still be a significant savings over cash ressies. However, people see other members renting for $7-8 per point because their are limitations on the points and they expect to get that same price from everyone.

I don't have so much of a problem with members renting from members to supplement trips instead of borrowing but it does bother me when non-members are able to get "our DVC" without the financial or emotional investment the rest of us have had to make & get it on the cheap.

I know being able to rent out your points is a great convenience for many members and may be neccessary from time to time for many different reasons (financial hardships being one). I just feel we are giving away the farm in some cases. C'mon, at $10 p/pt during Adventure season you can get a studio at OKW for $80 night ?!?! Or a Grand Villa for $360 ?!?! Obviously I think the going rate is way too low.

I guess if I was ever in a use or lose situation I would rather donate them to Make a Wish or some other charity & take the tax deduction.

While I don't rent my points, it would not surprise me to see the average rental price per point increase a little, probably into the $12-$13 range, now that the dining plan will be available. Folks perceive that as a value, and for some it can be.

how about a notice to people who rent - please check all the posters back post before renting.....

I think the biggest issue to "devaluing" points by letting them go so cheaply is the that those folks who pay a pittance for great accommodations treat them like they would the All Stars or worse yet, the Holiday Inn! Maybe that's why we see folks not taking care of the resorts. They don't have a vested interest, and they are paying ridiculously low prices.

While I think you do have a point, please don't paint renters with the same brush. I have rented points twices now, and honestly I feel it's a privelidge to be allowed to stay at your "club", and I treat it as such. The only reason I am not a member yet is becuase I still have sudent loan and credit card debt to pay off. And I do have to say, if someone is willing to rent their point to me at $8.00 (I have happily paid $10.00 both times) I am not going to say no.

Melissa, we're talking about the people who post that they can only afford $5 or $6, etc for renting points. They want fire sale points, about ready to expire, etc. Then they bring up the fact that they want to make this a special trip for daughter, son, etc. Then you might even check out their previous posts and they have been six or seven times this year, all on the backs of DVC members.

We're glad that you appreciate the DVC resorts and help us take care of them. Hope we will be welcoming you home in the future. :wave2:

That's not what I am referring to. I am talking about the folks who want to pay fire sale prices or specifically ask to get a low cost far below what you have paid. I'm not saying all renters are that way.

I hope I dont offend, but I have the final words to this debate (of course, as I see it), and please..... I understand circumstances forcing owners to sell. I also comprehend the market, even DVC. 7 bucks is ridiculous and insulting! I agree, we all worked hard for the $$ to buy our DVC interest. As I see it, DVC belongs to my family and I just would not sell parts to a stranger or non-member!

So, here goes my final thought:

I bought DVC to offer my family a special place. I never had these opportunites as a child, and my children, hopefully will remember the great family vacations at Disney. Family is everything, so I did DVC for my children. I did not buy to sell. I bought the memories, in advance!! I will not sell. DVC is our special place. I will give points to family or friends in the event we can not attend. We will never ever consider a cheap fix! Dvc is called home. Would you rent a couple of rooms to strangers in your home that cheap? Think about it....As I am new to the board, please forgive this outburst! :guilty:

Exactly.

If the going minimum rate was $11 per point, it would be only a matter of weeks before that new low threshold took effect and the points again would sell out in a matter of a few days, just as $10 per point does now.

At $11 per point, a renter can save almost 50% in most case over a reservation directly through Disney. I just saved a family $1400 on a reservation. Seems like enough of an incentive to raise the prices and still have a healthy market.

I too bought into DVC for my kids. My son is 4 and has been to Disney 6 times. And LOVES it. Nothing like the look on their face and the excitement over everything we do and see.

Lets stand up for our 'home'. Members please do your best to end this madness. The price on our 'home' has gone up!!!! You want to play, you're gonna pay!!!!

Happy Holidays!!!!!!

I think it is just a matter of learning to say NO!!!!!!! I recently rented points, we set our price and we did not negotiate. WHen people balked at the price, we told them in a kind but honest way, "sorry but we can't rent them for any less. If you would like to contact some other folks to see if they have points at the price you want, please feel free." Some people did not rent from me. Some did. It did not take me more than a couple of weeks to rent to our max at the price we set. I also treat the renters well, will make changes for them, will walk them through the process etc. I do not feel like it is a bother when someone changes their mind and wants a different date etc.

I agree though, people who rent for $10 or less are throwing their points away, unless they are trying to unload them close to the end of the UY. The MFs are just too high at most of the resorts to justify $10.
