They were more like guidelines, anyway...

All caught up. Just in time for this PTR to be wrapping up it seems; lol. It is a good thing too, because I am super excited about your camping trip. I really want to camp at Ft. Wilderness one day, but no one in my family has ever been camping before so we don't have any of the stuff.

I can't wait to hear all about it. :hyper:

The lanyards look great. What attaches to it? Do the Universal FPs come in something that will attach or do you have to get someyhing extra?

I've got some of the plastic pouches that most lanyards come with. BUT, on our last trip, one of the pouches tore off on the Disaster ride and we had to go back to the hotel for another room key/express pass. When we got there, they suggested just punching a hole in the corner of the key card. That seemed much more secure and we had no more problems. So, if that is still acceptable, we'll probably skip the pouches. (But I'll bring them, just in case.)

With all the trouble I had this past trip with my cards I am wanting to go this route for September. I just need something that will hold AP, KTTWC, TiW, and Photopass+.

That's a LOT of cards to have to carry around and those plastic pouches don't last forever, especially is you have to take things in and out of them. I feel your pain. I wonder if Disney would allow you to hole punch any of the cards and use a key ring on the lanyard to make them simpler to access? That would be a nice option.

No one in our family ever got into the Harry Potter books but as an avid reader, I can definitey relate to waiting anxiously for a favorite author to release a new book that is part of a series!

I am sure you will all have a blast exploring his world!

I'm getting very excited. This will be our first trip where we haven't discussed all the rides and shows endlessly before we leave, so I'm interested in seeing if that is a plus (everything will be new) or a minus (no one can decide what they want to do, when. I'm really the only one who knows what the options are, etc.)

Oooh! Exciting purchase! I am a VERY huge Harry Potter fan! Sounds like each of you have your own perfect Hogwarts house!

I liked the idea that we could each have our own. In the real world, Matt and Garren would both be Gryffindor and Emily and I are more Ravenclaw, but (like in the books) you can fit more than one house, and I think this is more fun. :woohoo:

I totally get it Susan...I have been looking at those exact lanyards for months. I plan to bring one home for my security pass at work. ::yes:: Ravenclaw for me and ds, Gryffindor for dh and dd is torn between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. Did you order them from the Universal store online? I will wait til we get there, as duty and shipping to Canada effectively doubles the price on something like that. But, totally cool for you guys. :cool2: I'd be excited too. Heck, I'm excited for you!!

Yes, I ordered them from the Universal store. A bit pricey for a strip of fabric and a metal clip, but I just couldn't help myself. They were each just under $10. And the shipping was $9. (Ouch, I usually wait to buy online until I can get free shipping. They really gouge you there. ). But lanyards are a big help at Universal, and I will use mine for school (I need a new one anyway). It's possible the kids will use there's for school also. The last set we got from Universal were pretty good quality and held up well. Hopefully, these will be the same.

Now, I've just got to the stalk the mailman so that I get to the package before my kids.... EEK! I really don't want this part of the trip to be revealed early.

I can't wait to share it. Well, hmmm, gotta rethink that. That means the trip will be over.... :( That's a depressing thought.

But, I am looking forward to reliving it in a TR. I've never written one before, so hopefully I can keep you all entertained. :hippie:

As for the camping. If you decide to try it out one day, there are places that will rent camping equipment. It's not cheap, but it's better than investing in all that "stuff" and discovering that it's not for you.

We bought our equipment a little at a time over the years. On our first family trip (when the kids were 4 and 18 months), all we had was a tiny 4-person tent, a cooler full of food, a flashlight, and a tarp. We sat on logs we found in the woods and Matt pulled up by the fire. Didn't even think of camp chairs and this campground did not have picnic tables. lol. Luckily, we had good weather. We only did two nights and stayed close to home just in case. That's where I discovered that "primitive" camping is NOT for me, especially when you have two small children. :headache:

But, as long as there are clean bathrooms (and I've got my air mattress, 40 is NOT 20...), we love it. :cool1:

Well, we got little to nothing done over the weekend. :rotfl2: The new plants are in the ground, and a couple odds and ends, but it rained so much we couldn't get to anything else outside. Maybe this week.

Matt has Thursday (and probably Friday) off, so he's planning to deal with the camping equipment then. That works for me. I forgot he typically gets a couple days off around the Fourth. Sometimes they'll even shut down for the week, but they're too busy right now.

Matt's sister is supposed to be coming in from Oklahoma with our three nieces for the holiday, so we'll probably burn some time at my MIL/FIL's house, we don't get to see them often enough. My nephew (who ran in the zombie race with his dad) leaves for the Marines next week, so we're going to have a big family dinner Sunday to see him off and to visit with the Oklahoma cousins.

My sis already headed back to Florida, that was a very short, but sweet, visit. For my family, that's probably a good thing. Sometimes we wear on each other after a couple days.

I hope everyone else is enjoying their summer. It's going fast. I can feel fall approaching already. Ugh. :headache:

Oh, and I've been meaning to ask. Can anyone explain how to do Chapters for my TR? Or is there a tutorial on the Dis somewhere I can read through. I know I'll want to do that when I write my report. I'll probably also want to create links for the Camping and Universal boards. But, I'm pretty rough in these areas, so I need a walk through before I get to that point. lol. Thanks much!!

If you're looking to do like what I have in my PTR for chapters than it's a lot easier than it looks.

I just use a [ *] with no spaces to make the bullet point then I use the URL link function in the edit space up top of the comment and put in the link to the post I just made. So, when you make a post it will take you to a URL of that post right after you submit it. You'll want to copy it from the URL bar at the top of your browser, then go to your first post and add it in there.

Here is what mine looks like with spaces put in:

WOW! Thank you! Both of those were very helpful tutorials. I think I'll be able to follow those instructions and keep my trip report organized. (You have NO idea how technologically challenged I am. Just getting photos on here has been a comedy of errors at times. :rotfl:)

Now, I just have to remember to make the chapter links each time I post. :rolleyes1

Matt ordered a small air conditioner to use with the tent today. lol. So, I'm no longer worried about the temps down there. I'm pretty sure I'll sleep like a baby now. Added bonus, the a/c is smaller than just one of the box fans and we were planning to take two. We're whittling away at the volume of travel supplies. ha ha.

Tomorrow I'm going to buy the supplies for extendable tent poles, that we plan to use to suspend a tarp over our tent. This should keep the Orlando afternoon monsoons from causing havoc in the tent. Matt decided to make our own so that they will be the perfect size and they should cost about half as much as those you can purchase online. Works for me. Hopefully he can get them assembled before Thursday so he can try out the tarp in addition to everything else over the Fourth of July holiday. I'll try to get some photos of the house and all the equipment while he's out there setting it up. Should prove interesting.

It rained allllllll day today, so I went through our health and beauty supplies. I filled all the travel bottles of soap, shampoo, lotion, etc. and created a little med kit. I also got the outdoor "stuff" like sunblock, ponchos and bug spray. Anybody know if bug spray can "go bad?" I've got three bottles that are probably a year or two old. I'm trying to decide if I should bring them or just buy new? Hmmmm....

I also counted up the cash portion of my "stash." Not Bad! We've got about $800 to put towards the trip. And I didn't even bother counting the change, I'll let the bank do that. lol. I'm pleased. We'll be able to cover everything, and probably come home with some cash in our pockets. Woo hoo!

Emily worked on another Pinterest craft which I'm totally stealing for my living room. She found a selection of small glass vases and bottles and used red, yellow, white and brown paint to create a range of varying colors. She coated the inside of each bottle with a different shade then hung them upside down to drain and dry. They make a cute little grouping. They will go pretty well in my living room, which is beige with a red, orange, gold and beige rug. When I asked if we could put them in there, she was fine with it. I think I'll add a single large red flower or maybe brown-eyed Susan's to each bottle. That room has always been too bland. This will help a lot.

Your welcome on the chapter link tutorial. Can you tell I do alot of training at work?

I consider myself to be pretty high on the evolutionary scale when it comes to technology but still had alot of trouble figuring out how to make chapter links. Sometimes its the things that should be so simple that are the hardest;) .

Awesome about the air conditioner. What a difference that will make. Heck now that I know you can buy an air conditioner for a tent maybe we will fullful Gabriel's dream of tent camping at Disney some day :)

I can not wait to see the tarp over the tent project that Matt is working on. Kenny and Gabriel have started camping with the Boy Scouts so we bought a pretty nice tent. However, it did not come with a tarp and when I look online you can not buy one for it because the tent we got is discountinued(probably why we got such a great price). So, I think Kenny will be interested to see how Matt's home made cover turns out. Perhaps Matt can take some pictures as he puts it together?

I am not sure about bug spray expiring but will say we have used the same bottle for three years now:rotfl: so I hope not.

It always feels good to go on a trip knowing that you do not have to worry about spending money. It is never my goal to come back with cash on hand(I know my limitations) but I do love knowing I have enough to make it through:thumbsup2

Please post pictures of Emily's new project. I have shown her flower pot fountain to so many and everyone thinks it is so creative. The person that would have really loved it is my mom! I sadly did not get the creativity gene so my house is very plain looking and could use some decorations.

Actually, yes. :thumbsup2

Isn't that the truth with everything, not just technology. :confused3

Awesome about the air conditioner. What a difference that will make. Heck now that I know you can buy an air conditioner for a tent maybe we will fullful Gabriel's dream of tent camping at Disney some day :)

We would have preferred a portable unit which sits inside the tent, with just hoses through the small cord "pocket," but those were $350. But, once Matt saw how a window unit can work by zipping it into one of the doorways (thanks again to the Dis), we decided to go that route. $100 and we're all set.

I'm sure "real" campers would be horrified at our pampered camping style. But, it could make all the difference in how pleasant this trip will be. Lack of sleep does not create happy campers in our family! Yikes!

I'm planning to take some pictures this week.
It's going to be quite a sight, I have a feeling. If your husband needs to make one, there are some great videos on youtube that will help also. Ours is going to be obnoxiously big, but you could easily make it smaller.
Or, if they just need something like a standard or small rain fly, you can find those from places like Dicks. I forget what they call them, but I looked at them when we were trying to come up with a solution to our problem, they were just too small for our ginormous tent. :rolleyes1

I am not sure about bug spray expiring but will say we have used the same bottle for three years now:rotfl: so I hope not.

That sounds promising. I couldn't find an expiration date on the bottle so I hoped they were still good. But, we made that mistake with sunblock one year (used the leftovers from the summer before) and we all paid for it. Ouch! :headache: Of course, if it doesn't work and we start getting eaten alive, I'm sure Disney will have some $12 bug spray we can pick up in a hurry. ;)

It always feels good to go on a trip knowing that you do not have to worry about spending money. It is never my goal to come back with cash on hand(I know my limitations) but I do love knowing I have enough to make it through:thumbsup2

 Well, I've got to admit, that was never a goal in the past, but I'm feeling guilty about the money I've already spent, so I'll probably be annoyed with myself if we spend all of that. lol.

Please post pictures of Emily's new project. I have shown her flower pot fountain to so many and everyone thinks it is so creative. The person that would have really loved it is my mom! I sadly did not get the creativity gene so my house is very plain looking and could use some decorations.

I'll try to remember to snap a couple pictures of the jars also. I need to get some wildflowers to put in them so they look a little more finished.
I'm not very creative, but I copy well, and Pinterest is loaded with ideas and how-tos.
:thumbsup2 I've got rooms in my house that I love (Kitchen, Mud Room, Dining Room), but the family room and living room are just BLAH. I'm working on it, but I just can't seem to find exactly what I want, so it's slow going.

I picked up the PVC pieces and bolts to make our extendable tent poles today. That was a comedy of errors and took far longer than it should have (and now my car is peppered with pvc shavings that I'm going to have to clean up), but I got the job done. :rolleyes2

Hopefully, Matt will get them assembled soon.

Our Universal lanyards also arrived today. I  em! I had to hurry and hide them, so I didn't get to really check them out, but they look better than the last set we had, so I think they'll hold up.

Tomorrow, my niece and two nephews are coming over to hang with the kids. They are all going to the free movie at the local theatre. And they are having a popsicle challenge. They each made their own popsicle flavor and they are going to have a taste test to see whose is the best.

Garren, all boy, simply made popsicles out of his favorite flavor of Gatorade.
Emily went all out, found recipes online, bought ingredients and made two. One was a fudgesicle and one that mimics a watermelon (lime on one end, strawberry on the other with mini choc. chips for the seeds) and has a center layer that includes cream cheese and whip cream. It looks cute, but I'm not sure its something kids would like. :confused3 I guess we'll see. And who knows what the cousins have cooked up.

Only 16 more days!!! :cool1:

I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday weekend!!

Less than two weeks out! Woo Hoo!!! :cool1:

We didn't get much done this week. It's been raining off and on every single day, and we're expecting another four or five days of the same. Blah.
We did manage to test out the camping equipment between showers on Friday.

Matt made the tent poles for our tarp. At least I know we'll stay dry on this trip. :thumbsup2 We were explaining the purpose of the tent poles to Matt's mother this weekend, and started listing all the camping trips we've gone on when it rained, and wow, it's been a lot. Mammoth Cave, Destin, Knightstown, Brown County, Indy. And, since this is Orlando in the summer.... I figure we can count on our daily afternoon showers on this trip.

We don't have much left to do to prepare for the trip. The a/c came Friday and we rigged it up with the tent to make sure it'll work. I need to start the pre-cooking/freezing for our dinners at the campground this week. My mom is making some homemade cookies. I've also got to make beef jerky, but I'll wait until the last week. If I don't, Matt and the kids will get to it before we leave. :rotfl: They are jerky junkes. Me, not so much. It's okay, just nothing I get excited over. :confused3

Other than that, it's just the final laundry and packing next week. :worship:

My sis' family got back from their trip this afternoon. I was sleeping, but they stopped by and dropped off some goodies while paying Garren for his house-sitting job. Emily received a Deathly Hallows keychain. Garren got a sugar quill (a quill shaped sucker), and I got Exploding Bon Bons. lol. I bet Deb had a blast at the Wizarding World. :stir: (That's a wizard, not a "stirring the pot" smiley this time.) I can't wait to hear about her visit (and to pick her brain, of course... she may have some timely tips to give me. lol).

We've got a lunch get-together at MIL/FIL's house today to celebrate our nephew heading off to the Marines and to see my SIL and nieces before they head back to Oklahoma this afternoon. I had to work tonight for another staff, but I'll get next Friday and Saturday off to accomplish some of the final jobs, so it' worth it. Then, I just have to get through my last week of work Sun-Thurs and Orlando, here I come!!!

Sorry I haven't been around much these last couple weeks and haven't gotten the photos I promised. It seems like the summer is flying by and I'm running out of time to get everything done. :headache: I even forgot Garren's allergy shots this week. Grrr. We're gonna have to go Monday morning, first thing, and hopefully, this doesn't put him off schedule or cause a bigger reaction. We're not supposed to go more than two weeks between shots. Blah.

Hopefully, I can keep it together long enough to get my TR done! Eek! I seem to be falling apart fast here. lol.. Maybe I'm just distracted by our impending trip. :rotfl::rotfl: Probably.

Have a great week everyone!!

Sounds like you have to much to do and, to little time to do it. So excited to see the pics hope you get them up soon .......:rotfl2:

I am alittle lost though how do you zip the AC into the tent? Do you have to have it up at the top of the tent flap? mm how do you hold it up there. Ok trying to pic in my head but not working a pic would be great of the AC installed, maybe when you get there and your camp is all set you could take one, pls :)
Hope you have a great time=wishing we were going this year. :yay:
have to live vicariously for now. Thinking of Disney always makes me happy. :grouphug:

Your update sounds just like mine the two weeks before we were supposed to leave. No matter how far in advance we plan and how slow the times seems to go the last 30 days seems to fly by and I always get a little panicked the last two weeks. However, it always comes together in the end. Having the two days before off will really help!

Hope you get time to post some pictures before you leave but if not you can always include them in you TR:)

Yeah, it's getting a little crazy here. We are probably not going to have the yard or landscaping done before our trip. But, I'm too excited about our impending vacation to really care right now. lol. We'll just get it done when we get back.

I'll definitely get a picture once we're set up at the campground. But, I'll try to explain the best I can now:

Our tent has two doors on the front, side by side. (Don't ask me why, it's a bit redundant, don't you think??)
But, in this case, that helps. We'll have one door to enter and exit, and one to use for the a/c.

Our tent doors are shaped like a D. The one on the left (which we're using for the a/c is a backwards D. We can put the a/c unit into the bottom left corner of the D (on the bend), then (since the door has two zippers) zip the tent down from the top, and over from the right corner toward the unit. It closes up pretty tight all on it's own thanks to how flexible the tent is. We'll probably add a bit of duck tape and/or zip ties to keep it all secure, and to keep bugs out, but it's really pretty simple.

The only real problem we had is the bottom of the (D) tent door is about six inches up from the ground. Now, that was a minor :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 until I realized I had some storage basket/bins in my laundry room that are just the right height. We placed them upside down, one outside the tent and one inside the tent, then just set the a/c unit on top of them. It just meets the bottom of the door, and as a bonus has a nice stable, dry base to sit on. Worked like a charm.
:thumbsup2

Hope you have a great time=wishing we were going this year. :yay:

I know how those long waits feel. Our last trip was in 2010 and it feels like forever. I can't believe we're almost there. :cool1: Will you be writing a PTR for your trip next year? I'd love to read it. It looks like your going to have a fun group!!

Yeah, time is really flying now. And, of course, all the summer stuff keeps coming up (parties, family get-togethers, holidays). It's really cutting into the time we have left. lol. But, we really don't have much left to do specifically for the trip. Basically just the food which I'll work on in the mornings next week. Well, and I need to grab a couple items specifically for Disney without my kids' noticing that they are gone:
The pin bag which hangs in Garren's room.
The refillable mug for the water parks which is in the kitchen.
My Disney bag that is not the type of bag you would take on a camping-only trip.
Emily's Disney bag which she uses often (that's going to be the most problematic, I may have to send them out to the car, then do a final house check and stash it inside my bag??)
I also need to figure out how to hide these items so they don't notice I've packed them. The Universal lanyards will have to stay hidden for almost half the trip and we're sharing a tent. :headache: Not sure what I'm going to do about those yet... :confused3 This could be interesting. I hope I pull it off!! (Crosses Fingers)

I'll really try to get some photos of the house in before I leave. I won't be able to post any of the tent set-up until we get there. That's done, and we won't be doing it again before then. Ah well, can't win them all.

Today will be pretty quiet. We've got to mow and weedwip. It's gotten really tall with all the rain, so it can't be put off. And I have to take Garren for his allergy shots. I wrote myself a note on the counter so I wouldn't forget again and noticed that he wrote "Yeah, I can't wait!" with a smiley on it after I went to bed yesterday. :rotfl2: He hates those things. They weren't that bad in the beginning, but now that he's up to the full dose in both arms, they do hurt going in, itch something awful, and make his upper arms sore for days. :headache:
But, he made it through his worst allergy season this year without the all-night cough fests we dealt with in the past, so it's definitely working. I'm sure he'll appreciate it when it's all over... (just a couple more years, hopefully :thumbsup2).

Rosie gets her braces off tomorrow (at least most of them, he said a couple may stay on the sides for just a little longer). That's exciting, I can't wait to see her without them!

And, her birthday is Thursday, so we'll have to do some celebrating that day. Yesterday, she said she wanted to make her own cake. Somehow, that just feels wrong to me. :rotfl: Have I mentioned she's a better cook than I am?? :rotfl2: I'm thinking she likes her own cakes better since she loves to bake and makes them from scratch. I am a box mix baker all the way. :lmao: Poor kid, doomed to make her own birthday cakes. :rolleyes1

Hope everyone else has a great week!

Only 11 more days until we hit the road for Orlando!!!!

lol actually already started my PTR Our first time in WDW oct 2014. I know I have a whole year but I thought this way I could ask questions from experienced peeps!
So excited I can't wait a year.lol :goodvibes

Wow, it is getting close. The air conditioner sounds awesome, I can't wait to see pics.

I may be able to post some sooner than I thought. Matt wants another trial run, lol. Apparently I'm not the only one who over plans. :rotfl:

So, I guess this weekend, we'll be setting up the tent, tarp and a/c one more time. :rolleyes1 In his defense, we were working with an old tarp the last time which was too narrow and too long, so we were really just getting a feel for things. We've got the right size tarp now so he wants to make sure everything is covered properly and we've got all the stakes we need to keep it secure, blah, blah, blah, insert man-speak here. ;)

8 Days! :cool1:

And if you think I'm giddy, you should see my hubby. :rotfl: He is ready to leave. Now. It's all he can talk about at home. :lmao: (I'm lovin it.)
I get started early, day dreaming, planning, changing plans, but I don't get "bouncing off the walls excited" until I get home from work on that last day.
DH doesn't get involved in the early planning, acts like he's just "eh" about the whole thing, until the last couple weeks, then it's real. We've hit that point where the trip is looming on the horizon and he's like a little kid. :thumbsup2

He sat down and actually listened to some of my "planning" for the park days.

As I mentioned before I'm trying to be a little looser with our plans this time around, but I still think it's important to use those critical rope drop hours for the highlights, and to do rides in the "right" order. (On our last trip, I let Matt overrule me at DHS one day, taking us to ToT and RnRC first, rather than TSMM. :scared: It was not good. We never even got on TSMM that day. Gotta do the slower loading top picks FIRST, not LAST, especially when the ride is fairly new...)

He was happy with everything I had worked out, until I got to the Disney-to-Universal transfer day. It finally dawned on him that we will be getting to the park way too late for early entry due to the resort transition. He didn't like this a bit. lol. ;) He LOVES the low crowds after rope drop (his crowd aversion is why we are avoiding MK on this trip, that park drives him crazy. lol)
So, we are making a minor adjustment to our plans. Matt now wants to pick up our Universal tickets earlier in the trip so we can cut that step out on transfer day. Obviously, it would be hard to do that without the kids knowing, so we'll probably surprise them early, at Disney, rather than on the road "heading home."

Since that's the case, I may go ahead and print out the "Hogwarts Letters" I created in Word a while ago. I tried to duplicate the print, ink, and style of the letter Harry receives in the first book. Except, instead of a supplies list, it includes a list of things they can look for or purchase in the WWoHP, like a snack, a drink, a wand, etc... I can give them their lanyards then also. Possibly a little corny for two teens, but it works for me.

I still don't think we'll make it to the park during early entry, it really depends on how long it takes us to break down the tent and get everything back in the car. Even if we take down part of the equipment the night before, we'd have to get up pretty early to accomplish all of that. Then, we've got to check in at RPR in order to get our express passes, then walk/boat over to the park. I'll be shocked if we get it all done and still make it to Universal for an 8 a.m. rope drop, let alone 7 a.m. early entry. :hourglass But, hey, we can give it a shot if he wants to. :thumbsup2

While discussing the rides, etc., Matt let me know that he may use the "chicken exit" on a few more rides this year. The older he gets, the more the sensory-type rides get to him. He, Emily, and I all get motion sickness to some degree, but his seems to be getting worse. And he typically ends up with a migrane-strength headache to go with it. So, he said, not to worry, he'll just hang out with us in the lines, then detour to the exit when we get to the ride. And not to worry, he'll have fun just being there, with us. (He knows me well, sometimes I try too hard to please everyone and end up annoying everyone instead. It's a family trait. lol.)

My only other planning "change" came as quite a surprise. The last time I checked park hours was a month or six weeks ago. I thought that was pretty accurate for the summer hours, and never checked it again. But Universal's hours changed. At that point, their park hours were 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with early entry at 8 a.m.

Well, now they are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a 7 a.m. early entry. Wow!!! Lots more hours to enjoy the parks. I'm really glad. That means we can have a nice long midday swim when it's hot out, and then enjoy the parks late! :beach: It also means we'll have the extra time needed to pool hop to the other resorts if the kids are interested. RPR has a nice kids play area, but no slide. The other two resorts have slides, and their own unique theme, so we may want to check them out. Now, I feel like we can manage that, and not cut into our park time. :cool1:

I was also surprised to see that their nightly show at USF was at 9:45 p.m., after park closing. I still can't quite get that straight, it seems odd to have a show 45 minutes after closing, but hey, who am I to complain about another hour to roam the park?? :rotfl:

I'm pretty happy with these changes. Yes, it means we'll probably miss early entry and rope drop on our first day at Universal, but we can more than make up the time by focusing on express rides that day, then hitting early entry to enjoy WWoHP and Minion Mayhem (another new attraction that doesn't have express) on our last two days. ::yes::

My only remaining concern now is the weather. My sister's trip to Orlando last week was pretty overcast and rainy. She said they had rain (most of the day) for 5 of their 7-day trip. :crazy2: And now I read talk of tropical storms on the Dis. :scared: I really hope not. I can handle the afternoon thundershowers, but heavy rain, all day, every day! Or worse, a tropical storm! YIKES!

Of course, Matt's Mr. Mellow. He says, eh, if it's more rain than we can handle, we'll see if Disney will let us upgrade to a value. If not, we'll just pack up and get a hotel room. :faint: Okay, I'm glad he's all calm about it, but if I drag half my house all the way to Orlando to camp, I'm going to be mildly annoyed if we end up in a hotel. :lmao: Not to mention this is supposed to be a budget trip. Paying for a campsite and a hotel for the same nights is not budget. :rolleyes2 So, please pray for lovely weather July 19-28!!! I'd greatly appreciate it!!! :worship:

I love the fact that Matt is so excited. To have someone in my family actually listen to my plans would be a dream come true for me! Kenny is 'eh" through the planning and stays that way until we actually get to Disney. Last trip he was actually surprised to find out the day before we were leaving that we were staying for two weeks. Somehow he thought we were staying at Disney for one week and doing something else the second week:confused3. He had no idea what that something else was and could have cared less but he did assume we would not be at Disney for two whole weeks.

I think there is a fine balance between looser with your plans and making the most of your day. I think I finally achieved that balance this past trip after 10+ trips to Disney. So my philosophy is plan every detail and then be flexible when things change. I do not even let anyone know I have planned every detail (not that they would care) I just simply say hey lets go to this next and they all follow. Because of my planning usually by the end of the day everyone has seen or done everything they wanted to do.

I love the idea of the letters and I bet the kids will love them too. I know kids have to grow up but I think it is important to realize that there are always times in life (no matter how old you are) when it is ok to just be a kid again. Heck it sounds like Matt is a good example of that;)

Good luck on early entry for Universal the first day. I bet you make it right on time or very close after. Telling the kids early will make sure the whole family has the incentive they need to get things packed up and on your way. If the kids thought they were headed home you might have had more trouble (I know I am slow to get things together when I know my destination is home).

I have never had any trouble with any ride (except the Tea Cups) until recently. The last couple of trips I have not enjoyed some of the rides I used to love. I am now the person that always volunteers to stay off with the little ones while everyone else rides the thrill rides:thumbsup2

I recently rechecked the hours for our September trip and was surprised at the number of changes! I do think it is weird about the Nightly show is 45 minutes after closing. I might almost think that was a misprint:confused3

Glad you are going to have some pool time. I love exploring other resorts. It will let you know if you might want to consider another resort for your next trip:cool1:.

We got more rain during our May trip then we have ever gotten. We did have TS Andrea come through while we were there. I actually grew to love the rain because we did not have to deal with heat at all but I was not camping. I am sure I would NOT have have loved it if I was::yes:: .

We have also had nothing but rain since school let out here in Georgia. Seriously I think it has rained every single day since memorial day. Most days all day. So hoping it will be all rained out by the time you get there! I will definitely say a prayer for nice weather for your week!

:rotfl2: That's hilarious that he really didn't know. :rotfl:
I do like being the one in charge of the trip planning (obviously, then I get my way in most things), but it's nice when Matt starts to show and interest.
And, of course, I'm such a people-pleaser that situations like you describe above start to bug me, I start second guessing the plan and wondering if they are disappointed and get myself all worked up. :confused3 I'm not as bad as the rest of my family, but it's still there.
The only problem we ever have (and it doesn't just involve trips) is that Matt will want to make changes at the last minute. I'll have everything settled in my mind and then he comes along and says 'how about this' or 'we could try that.'
He's already making some subtle changes in our plans for this trip: i.e. the a/c, telling the kids about Universal the night before so we can get over there quicker in the am, and now he's talking about leaving earlier on Friday and stopping for the night on the way down. :rolleyes1 Happens every time. I knew he wouldn't be able to stay at work all day that Friday and just leave in the afternoon. And he's adding to my budget, darn it. :rolleyes2 It's just one night, but sheesh. I should have just planned for that, I knew at the beginning he wouldn't be able to take it. :hyper:
He does the same thing at Christmas. I've budgeted and bought the gifts (and got his go-ahead on things), then Dec. 18th rolls around and off he goes buying more stuff for the kids, etc. I'm finally learning to be a last minute shopper like him so we don't blow our budget every year.

I'm trying really hard to walk that tight-rope better this time. Our first trip was very mellow, but we didn't really know every option on that trip. We were such newbies. We took a longer trip (two weeks) the second time and because I over-planned it felt much more hectic and stressful than our first trip, when it was supposed to be more relaxing. :worried:

I did work on the letters this morning and I'm going to use them. (The kids spent the night at their cousins' house so I had the computer and printer to myself for awhile.) They came out pretty well if I do say so myself. I had some decent stationary so they look more polished/realistic, I just needed a few trial and errors with the printer to get the envelopes to print correctly. I even found a Hogwarts post mark to put on the envelope, lol. I love the internet! Never could have managed that myself! :thumbsup2

It will be tight, but you may be right. I met Matt for lunch today, and he was listing all the things we could pack up the night before and it was a lot. The final breakdown may not be as bad as I was imagining. But I'm not going to stress about it either way. We've got plenty time to enjoy everything at the "dark side".

Getting older sucks, doesn't it? Of course, sometimes it's nice getting that one-on-one time with the little guys. They can be pure entertainment all by themselves!

Maybe I should check a couple different web sites? I think I'll do that. It does seem odd.

We've gotten a lot here too, at least during June. The kids and I finally finished leveling the new dirt in the yard today. We just couldn't get it dry enough to even work on before that. Ugh!
Any and all prayers for lovely Orlando weather gladly accepted!!
