They were checking ID's at the pool this year

Katiebug, you are right -- of course you will need WDW transportation to get to your meals. I think you will just have to tell the person at the gate if you choose to drive over to a resort, or tell the bus driver if you use a bus. I remember the last time I visited the bus driver said they were having a problem with folks parking at Downtown Disney and going to the parks, or parking at the resorts, to save the daily parking fee. I think that is their concern, not people "hopping."

Because we have to get over to the Wilderness Lodge from MK for Dinner one evening & the Contemporary from MGM the next. How do you suggest we do that without using the resort transportation so we are not breaking any rules.

Having lunch or dinner at a resort is a legitimate reason for using the transportation, and as such you won't have a problem. Although 'technically' speaking, it's not... you really shouldn't have any problems at all... the 'technicalities' of the rules are just there to prevent people from abusing the system, that's all. As long as you don't abuse the system, then you'll really never have any problems.

Katiebug - although I'm sure you won't have a problem, if it got to the point where ID's were continually checked on Disney transportation then you would probably have to go back to the TTC, get your car & drive over to the hotel you are having dinner at.

Actually, depending on what time your dinner is, you may want to do this anyway. If you are having a later dinner you may not want to worry about having to get transportation back to your car. It may be more convenient to just walk back to the parking lot of the hotel you're eating at & drive back to your hotel.

Years back they ALWAYS checked resort ID. I had forgotten this, but this March at WDW, Mom reminded me that back in the 70's they always checked your ID before you got on a monorail or bus. We used to stay at Ft. Wilderness every summer, and even the internal buses checked.

Colleen - LOL. Last week while in Disney my mom said the same thing to me about WDW transportation in the 70's. We also used to stay at FW & she said you always had to show ID even to get on internal buses.

I couldn't remember it, but she assured me that we always needed it!! :)

JMO but I think if this was the policy then people would adhere to it. If guests were told at check in that you needed to show your resort ID to use the transportation system & to use your resort pool it would just become the norm & would end up not being an issue. WDW would have to enforce it though.

OK...I am sorry to burst alot of your bubbles, but Disney transportation is not just for Resort guests. If you look at the benefits of a Park Hopper pass, Disney transportation is one of those benefits. If you have a park hopper pass you can ride to your heart's content. Polynesian here we come 33 days and counting!!!;) ;) ;)

They did always check our ID's..even if we were just getting on the boats to go from the campground to the parks. One ID per family was needed.
Now, it is included when you buy hoppers, and I don't think they can take the time with the amount of people they are moving. There were only two parks when they checked ID's, and we seldom did much more than go to the Poly for the dinner show..or the campground for the HDD review.
We just got home on the 16th and we rode the monorail from MK to GF, and the only thing said to us..was that if we were looking for TTC, we were in the wrong line..but we were welcome to take a look and visit the resorts. At the contemporary, we boarded the mono rail several times, and never had to show any ID (we weren't staying there, but had come to pin trade). They did have a guard and signs up by the boats from MK..and when we approached (we were going to the WL to pin trade, he said if we were leaving, we wanted to go over to the TTC boat..we told him we meant to go to WL..and he pointed us down past him. I thought he was there, just to prevent people from following the crowds and taking the wrong transportation.

Does it specifically say Resort Transportation? There is a difference between resort transportation and park to park transportation.

For example park transportation at the TTC is the large ferry and the Express Monorail. Resort transportation is the Resort monorail and the boats to specific resorts.

My understanding is the Hopper pass gives you unlimited use to park to park transportation.

Can you check your pass and see? I could be mistaken.

I do not have a PH pass. I have an AP. I got my info from the Disney site. It does not specify resort or park to park. It just says use of Ferry boats, monorails, and motorcoaches. I think people get caught up in the small stuff too much. I do not want Disney to start checking IDs. It will slow things down, especially when it is really busy. If that means someone is on a bus that shouldn't be, so be it. It is Disney, don't sweat the small stuff. :) :) POLY bound.

It's not written on the actual hoppers I have. This is on the Disneyworld.com site, where you buy your hoppers:

With every Park Hopper® Ticket you get:
• Unlimited admission* to the four Disney Theme Parks: Magic Kingdom® Park, Epcot®, Disney-MGM Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park
• The flexibility to go from Theme Park to Theme Park on the same day
• Convenient Walt Disney World® transportation -- monorails, ferryboats, and motor coaches
*Except for activities/events separately priced.

I'll be heading out in 25 days for my fourth weeklong stay on property. I have yet to be asked for ID...

Can you imagine if they start checking everybody's ID before they got on a boat or monorial or bus?

Those lines that everybody complains about on this site would take forever.

And for what?

Someone staying at GF is ticked because someone staying at the All-Stars used the........OH MY GOD???!!!!..........RESORT MONORAIL???

WHO CARES!

Checking the ID's at the pools is a great idea which makes a lot of sense. But for the transportation? No way. Relax everyone.
