They think we're nutty or are they just jealous?

We don't tell a lot of folks, but the ones we do mostly appreciate the concept. And I have an understanding with the few who don't: if they don't needle me about DVC then I won't point out to them how many thousands of dollars they spend each year for the nearby major college football team--season tickets, a non-refundable deposit to even be able to buy season tickets, gas, occasional hotel rooms after late games, plane tix when the team plays in a bowl game (which is every year), hotel rooms for staying at the bowl game city, etc.

Basically, envy of any sort is all a matter of perspective. No, I can't afford to jet around the world on a whim. I don't own an expensive car. I don't live in a mansion. I don't have a personal trainer. . .or chef. I don't pay people to clean my house or drive me around. I don't have a nanny. I don't have a 1,000-bottle wine collection. I don't have an offshore account with millions resting in it. Then again, I do have a house that suits me fine. I have cars that work. I have a steady income. I have many good friends. I run and play b-ball with said friends to stay in shape. I'm a fine cook in my own right. I'm in good health. I don't have a guilty conscience about anything. I have a loving wife who appreciates my cooking and cleaning. And I have a 5-yr old daughter who looks me in eyes and says, "I love you, Daddy." I don't need more than that. ;) And to many people, my life would be the stuff dreams are made of. . .it really is all a matter of perspective. paw:

my family is the same way i hope to take my neices and new nefew #16 then they will understand when they see how nice dvc are

I haven't told anyone yet either. My friend did find out (because she is on the Dis and was very happy for me, Well she hangs out on the Dis) but the family & other friends think I'm nuts already. My kids are older but we enjoy Disney so much. If you can't get it it's OK with me so why must they put you down when you are going again. I never say, "Oh so you are going Skiing, hiking, fishing, golfing sunbathing & etc again!" If all these things are acceptable why isn't Disney. I just don't get it. :confused3

And Yes DisneyTarheel, I'll drink to that! :drinking1 Oh I already did! :teeth:

I know I get tired of the people saying "are you going there (WDW) again??!! :rolleyes2 Don't you ever get sick of the same place? Don't you want to go anywhere else?" So I realllllly try not to say anything to anyone :teeth: and just plan plan plan. BUT it gets so hard for me (us WDW LOVERS of the MOUSE) to keep my mouth shut. When all you think about is your next trip and what you are going to do, sometimes it just slips out before you can stop yourself. AND then you have someone looking at you with that dumb look on their face :confused3  wondering what it is that makes us want to go no where else. It is just MAGIC pixiedust:

That is so funny!! I am the same way...I am so excited for any Disney trip, I just can't keep my mouth shut! The eye rolls start, but oddly enough, alot of it is from the guy who goes to Vegas at least once a year and doesn't take his family on any trips anywhere. So, to each their own!

When I told my parents, they were not surprised and when they found out we could get them into a FW campsite for very little points, they seemed to like it! Two Disney lovin folks at work have asked to borrow all of the info we got when we signed up to see if it is for them.....I think they'll use us for the guinea pigs before they take the plunge!

I have to agree with the jealous or they are just unaware of the true magic behind DVC.

My sister and I decided to buy into DVC because we go every year and it just made more sense to. I looked at it as my new life without the ex-husband. this was for me. We didnt tell anyone else in the family. I feel like we are 12 again sharing a secret noone else knows about!!

I had to respond to this post...because it is sooo true..non-DVC's just don't get it.
DH was against joining DVC years ago, he thought our member friends were nuts...Finally after years of refusal we planned the first family trip..Of course everything that could go wrong (his predications) like stuck at LGA for 2 days because of snow/ice..(we lucked out and got a room though) then flight changes to Newark and when getting ready to take-off...on the run way heading down with speed, the plane easied up and we headed back to the gate and our flight was cancelled..we then sat in the airport for 13 more hrs with DK's 2,5,6 and grandparents..I doubted I would be able to instill the magic into him this trip or ever
..but after arriving at 3 am and seeing the BWV my husband was magically hooked. Our first contract was a small resale BWV then another BWV and our 3rd was BCV. Shame on friends and family who try to diminish the joy and fun we have when taking a family vacation.

We have a friend who's dream is to buy an RV pad at this lake out in the middle of nowhere...he goes on and on about what a great deal it is and how great it would be for the family to be able to use it summer after summer. He would have to pack up the trailer (with clothes and supplies) and drive for several hours to get there. And yes, he's decided it's the perfect opportunity for us too. If we even try to bring up our DVC membership, he just looks at us as if we're the stupidest people in the world (I always think of how Archie Bunker looked at Meathead!). It is a constant source of amazement to me how he can feel he's so right...and we're so wrong!
