We don't tell a lot of folks, but the ones we do mostly appreciate the concept. And I have an understanding with the few who don't: if they don't needle me about DVC then I won't point out to them how many thousands of dollars they spend each year for the nearby major college football team--season tickets, a non-refundable deposit to even be able to buy season tickets, gas, occasional hotel rooms after late games, plane tix when the team plays in a bowl game (which is every year), hotel rooms for staying at the bowl game city, etc.
Basically, envy of any sort is all a matter of perspective. No, I can't afford to jet around the world on a whim. I don't own an expensive car. I don't live in a mansion. I don't have a personal trainer. . .or chef. I don't pay people to clean my house or drive me around. I don't have a nanny. I don't have a 1,000-bottle wine collection. I don't have an offshore account with millions resting in it. Then again, I do have a house that suits me fine. I have cars that work. I have a steady income. I have many good friends. I run and play b-ball with said friends to stay in shape. I'm a fine cook in my own right. I'm in good health. I don't have a guilty conscience about anything. I have a loving wife who appreciates my cooking and cleaning. And I have a 5-yr old daughter who looks me in eyes and says, "I love you, Daddy." I don't need more than that.
And to many people, my life would be the stuff dreams are made of. . .it really is all a matter of perspective.
