They should check id's at bw pool

I think now that they are checking room keys at SAB, the bw pool is now the location of choice for daytripping pool crashers. I am basing this assumption on some things I observed at the pool this weekend, in what little time we spent there, it was so packed. Why oh why don't they check id's there? Its really not fair to the rest of us who belong there!(otherwise, great trip, though!)

If it was really busy one day, rather than the whole weekend, it may have been because Yacht and Beach Club guests were being shuttled over to the BW to swim. Seems that Stormalong Bay was closed beginning at noon one day due to an..uh.."accident" of epic proportions.

It's true that alot of people just take advantage of nobody checking room cards.When I was down in july they only chacked one day.I remember seeing people who was at the pool the day before get turned away.

We were at BWV in mid-August, and although there was a big sign stating that only BW guests were allowed at Luna Pool, we were never questioned. And it did seem really crowded, although this may have been typical for August (1st summer trip).

It's sad, but I think WDW needs to address this problem on a resort wide basis not just a couple of pools. IMHO they should set in place a reasonably vigorous checking system to try and stop this practice. Obviously the hotels that are nearest the parks are the main targets (GF,Poly,Contemp, Y+B and BW) but I think Disney needs action to make the statement that this practice is ACTIVELY discouraged. Having a flyer with guest check in literature explaining why Disney is trying to stop this, it is very much in the guests interests to help, should help ease any guest grumpiness about checks. I would place a pool attendant in a highly visible position and monitor guest who do not use the hotel towels ( checking keys at towel delivery).
There are a few pools where it would be almost impossible to check ( the quiet pools at OKW and CBR would be two that spring to mind) but I feel it has got to the point that Disney needs to make a concerted effort to show they do not tollerate people abusingthe system.

I think even if there is just one "illegal"pool family taking tables or chairs away from a paying family, that is one to many. Disney should spring for the $6.00 an hour to pay for an id checker!

When we stayed at BWV last Christmas, there were CMs checking room keys at the pool entrance every day. Guess they were trying extra hard to control the poolhopping at a peak time of year. Each person also had a clipboard, and I caught a glimpse of one that a CM laid down. They were keeping a tally of how many people they had to turn away. I thought that was a good idea, to actually track how many people were really trying to pool hop where they weren't supposed to be. As I recall, the official word was definitely out that there was no poolhopping at certain resorts, including BWV, for specified dates surrounding Christmas.

I know that I appreciated the CMs monitoring who came to the pool, because the pool was already plenty busy over the holidays just accommodating the actual BWV guests.

We found the hotels in Las Vegas we visited this summer handled this nicely. Some even had turnstiles installed that you had to have a valid key to use. When your key expired at 11 AM, too bad!

I would certainly support checking keys at the pools.

Glad I didn't run into the "accident". Considering the name, maybe we should call it "The storm!"

Sort of unrelated but maybe you can help me with this: If we are staying at BWV and our friends are also vacationing at WDW (maybe staying on-site, maybe staying off-site) are they allowed to visit us at BWV and swim? Thanks!

The unofficial rule of thumb on this is that if your accomodations at BWV would allow your friends to stay with you, then you can bring them to the pool. You could always request non-charging room keys for them to show for ID.

For example, if you're a family of four staying in a 2BR and your friends are also a family of four, OK. But if you're a family of 6 and your friends are a family of four, it's a no-no.

Sure, why not. You could fine local pool crashers for tresspassing.
