The time is finally here and the weather says rain and thunderstorms all weekend... has anyone every had a washout? Staying at HRH... what to do????? kids will go nuts!

This time of year, and lasting until the end of September, rain everyday in Florida is normal. The good thing is it usually doesnt last long. Usually storms around 3 or 4 and ends up just as humid as it was before the rain...lol. Go and have fun, many attraction in US are inside so if it's raining head over there.

Thats funny about being just as humid after it rains and so true! We went the second week of this month and the weather report was rain every day and it did but not all day thankfully. We just made the best of it and didnt let it ruin our trip. Went on lots of water rides since we were already soaked anyway:)

If you get a long period of rain you can head over to city walk and see a movie. The game rooms at the hotels are a short diversion also. Have a meal when it starts raining by the time your done the rain should be also. Enjoy!

On our first trip to US it absolutely poured! I was so upset, but we went in anyway so we could see the layout of the parks. Well, we had a complete blast! It was not crowded and just about every ride was open. We rode the Cat in the Hat ride a dozen times!

Don't worry about it and enjoy yourselves! :jester:

I will warn you to not waste your time at IOA if it is lightening. I never thought about it, but one day there was lightening 5 miles from the park, and they had to shut down all outside rides! Well that was pretty much EVERYTHING, except Spiderman, Cat in THe Hat. I was just about to load into DUeling Dragons Ice Dragon when they closed the rides down. WE waited it out about 20 minutes but finally gave up. There was NOTHING to do, the kids wanted to eide Spiderman so we did t hat about 5 times in a row! Then we gave up and went back to PBH. I was irritated about it when I was there, but then I realized ti was for our own safety, surely we wouldn't want lightening to strike a ride and get stuck in a possibly dangerous situation.

I know what you mean. we ducked into the sinbad show when it started raining hard, and that had to be stopped because of lightning too. then we went into poseidon, and froze because we were soaked and it is very cool inside. we went on spiderman and left.

No rain checks if it pours within a certain amount of hours of entering the parks???

I know Busch Gardens offered that last year in Williamsburg and am surprised that Universal wouldnt do that with so little available to do in the rain!

One of the days that we visited IOA last summer it rained constantly for about an hour. After that the sun shone and it turned into a wonderful day. I know it is disheartening when you plan a vacation down to the fine detail and then it rains and all your plans change. The weather service in Florida appears to be second to none and are usually very acurate when the predict the downpours. I would just relax and enjoy your trip.

Hi... we went swimming when it rained! Why not??? lol

Occasionally there was lightning in the area and they blew the whistles and made us get out.. but after it passed we were back in again.

There is tons to do at Universal if it's raining, Terminator, ET, Twister, Earthquake, Back to the future.. etc etc.. so much is inside.

Dont' worry and have a great time,

Yeah, I have to add to the Universal one above mine.

Majority of the rides at Universal are indoors, as well as their que. Makes for a good escape from rain.

I mean, there is ET, MIB, Earthquake, Back to the Future, Jimmy Neutron, Shrek now...

And aside from that the SHOWS!! Some shows are unfortunately outside (Ghostbusters...noooooooo!!!) but I am not sure if they cancel it if it just rains or if it has to have lightning...I know it started to rain once and they didn't cancel...

But Horror Make-up Show (I always recommend), Twister and Terminator 3-D are indoors.

In fact, there was a TERRIBLE storm once and my mom and I ran into the Horror Make-up Show to get out of the rain (didn't mind seeing it again either!). The show is aprox. 30 minutes long and when we got out...rain was gone!

I've lived in FL all my life and even though there is a chance of storms, it doesn't mean it will. Today alone, in my area...70% chance of rain. Did it rain? nope!! Florida's weather is practically unpredictable. :p

But storms and rain rarely last long here. But use the time to get in a que for a ride, or eat lunch or see a show. Perhaps by the time you get out, the rain is gone... :bounce::)

We were at USO the first week in August and it rained every day except the last one we were there. That is when we realized the cloudy, damp days weren't so bad. On the day the sun shone we got really hot whereas on the rainy days we actually were more comfortable. Now, there were not thunderstorms, usually, it just rained. I can see where IOA would be sort of a problem during a thunderstorm. We spent time in the JP Discovery Center during a storm one day and we saw Poseidon and Sinbad, did Spiderman and Cat in the Hat. But, like the person said above, US is great rain or shine! We brought ponchos and just put them on and went and had a great time!

Have fun!!

Nan

I would not do Earthquake when it's raining. There may be water coming into the building.

A log of water!!!!

We were at IOA this past Thurs. It poured and there was lightning they closed all the outdoor rides, and walking out was pretty bad! We went to citywalk and ate then hopped over to US for the indoor rides. They made everyone get out of the pool at HRH. Friday they moved the Dive-In movie inside the meeting room.
