Arrived at 4:15 for my 4:20 reservation. Confused as where to go because there is a kiosk with a line and then a CM with a little computer thingy just standing there to the right, so I went to him. I asked him if there was where I check in and he looked at me like a maitre d' at a snobby French restaurant and asked if I had a reservation. I told him yes, "For what time?" 4:20, "Name" all with keeping in the snobby character I guess. I was handed a pager and told, 'Wait on the bridge." Ohhh Kayyyy. :confused3
Pager went off and we were met by a CM and escorted, with a little tour, to our table in the ballroom.
Being how hard it is to get a reservation here, I was surprised how many tables remained empty during the 45 minutes or so we were there.
We were handed our menus and it wasvthen we realized how dark it was in there! DD held the "candle" from the table up to her menu and I used my phone to read mine.
I ordered the salad trio and, because of the lighting, when it arrived I could really only tell the difference between the tomatoes, beets and melon by eating them. It was good just the same.
DD and I split the Grilled Strip Steak. (Not a problem for those who are not big eaters) It was a very good cut. Very tender, but there were a few fatty bits, one of which I spat in my napkin because I could not see it when I cut it. Again, so dark.
I had a glass of Flora Springs Chardonnay. (I'm drinking in Magic Kingdom! Yeeaahh!!!) I'm no wine expert, but I like a full bodied, oaky wine and this was nice.
We skipped dessert in anticipation of eating it at the MNSSHP later. But it was good to see they added more varieties of cupcakes to the cart, the Grey Stuff one and a seasonal apple one with a witch hat on the frosting.
Our server, (Terri?) was very sweet. Service, once we were seated, was excellent and quick. I think they appreciated that people want to get out of there quickly and get back to the park. But they still try and give you the fine dining experience.
Not to belabor the lighting, but it was just silly. I can't believe what a fail it is. It's supposed to represent candlelight, but it was more like Beast Castle was experiencing a brown out. My DD got up to use the rest room just as Beast came out and since she couldn't see so well ended up face to face with him. She immediately spun around and collapsed in her chair, white as a ghost. Poor child was horrified. We laugh about it now, but I think she was traumatized the rest of the night. :lmao:
Maybe they need to have Lumiere walk the room to help us out.

Your title made me snort. Thank you for cheering me up on this day. :) Thanks for the review!

Loved the review and made me smile throughout as well. More appreciated having experienced it! If anyone is reading this who has not yet dined there, but will soon, come back and re-read and I'm sure it will make you smile too! :goodvibes

Thank you both and I'm glad I gave you a smile.
It's just one of those things you think your eyes will adjust to, but they don't! :p
I'll go back. It's a nice menu and I'm sure DH will enjoy it and having a glass of wine. Plus, I need to have a cupcake!

I am going to bring a mini flashlight. Neither DH nor I can see that well :joker:

In comparison to Sci-Fi? Which is darker?
I wasn't happy at Sci-Fi because of that. We had a very hard time reading the menu's. I like to see what I'm eating and also my kids to make sure they are still there :rotfl2:

In Sci Fi's defense, they are showing movie during dinner. :3dglasses

BOG was darker than Sci-Fi. We couldn't see, either. And the little table candle barely helped. We don't have smart phones, so that lighting idea was no-go. I did manage to have a very nice dinner, wonderful dessert, and the red wine was very nice, I believe it was Beaujolais. Can't remember what we had bc it was last November, when they were just opening service to guests in the park.

uh oh I"m in trouble if BOG is dark. Smart phone light will be used. :lmao:

Love the part about DD and Beast. Too funny.

We just got back from our trip, and we ate dinner in the ballroom, too, but I didn't think it was that dark at all! I had lunch at BOG also, but in the West Wing, which is DEFINITELY dark, so I was glad they didn't seat us there for dinner, and my hubby's and my aging eyes were just fine in the ballroom. Maybe table position made a difference- we were at a table against the wall on the right, as you walked into the ballroom, with the windows straight ahead.
