They cancelled our POR ressies . . . .

We are leaving for POR next week, and while making my dining reservations I luckily asked to confirm my hotel reservations. They had been cancelled without my knowledge!

We had initially booked at POLY but then switched to POR in June. Instead of applying our POLY deposit to POR like he said he would, the reservation agent credited it back to our credit card. After 7 days, our POR reservation automatically cancelled since no deposit was applied!

The scary thing is our reservation still showed up on the Walt Disney World website as being valid and still shows up there. Had I not checked my reservation by phone, we would have driven 2 days to Disney and not had a room. POR was booked by that time, but after much work they squeezed us in.

This is just to warn people, do not trust the internet, check ressies by phone! Oh and beware of complications when changing hotels.

oh, wow. thank god u checked in! driving for 2 days would of been horrible. u can never really trust the internet with big things like this.

Hi,

We had a really bad encounter with the same snafu when we changed a reservation for the Disney Magic, a couple years ago.

We called to change the dates, and then a few weeks before our original sail date, a confrimation packet showed up at the house for those (now wrong) dates.

A quick frantic call revealed they had never booked our new dates for us, though there was a record of our request somehow. They were almost sold out for the cruise dates we thought we were going on, but we managed to get a cabin and they gave us the rate we had been promised months before.

But still, sheesh!

If I ever have to make changes again, I'm tempted to just cancel totally and call back to rebook. I don't trust Disney Travel Co. anymore.

What a bummer that would've been :sad2: Didn't you get a new confirmation in the mail with the changes you made?

wow good thing you called
i would have been soooo mad !!
i am such awworrier that i always call to verufy everything before hand

zoinks! glad you double checked!

I'm sure they would have worked something out, but that's crazy....maybe we'll see you there!

No, and that is a good point. I never really thought about getting a mailing because I was checking the website and the reservation was posted on there.

BTW, the woman who told me my reservation was cancelled actually laughed about it when I complained and said at least we got our money refunded on our credit card. :earseek: I told her that if we had driven two days with my kids and then didn't have a room, I would not have cared too much that my deposit was refunded. If I didn't want to spend the money, why would I have made a reservation in the first place?

When the free dining plan came available, we called CRO to change our BC concierge room only ressie to MYW with a std. room. Added a 2nd room as we had additional family members who were now joining us. The CM asked me for the names of the additional guests and gave me a new confirmation number and due date of the final payment.

I became suspicious that they gave me a new confirmation number and called back the next day to add my request for connecting rooms and asked if they transferred my deposit from the old ressie to the new one. They didn't. And my old ressie was never cancelled. CM said they should not have booked a new ressie. Since it was the same hotel, my original one should have been modified and the deposit would have remained.

Just curious, do the CM's get and points or recognition based on the number of new ressies they book?

On a happier note, this will be our first stay at the BC and and our first time on the dining plan. We plan on spending every afternoon at SAB and eating at restaurants that we have previously passed up on due to cost. :flower:

To the OP - Did the WDW website show that you had paid the deposit? I have similar worries because our group of two families booked at Pop and then three more families decided to join us, so we all moved to AS Music. When I checked all of the reservations online, they each showed a $200 deposit.

We had a similar thing happen to us. We booked through a travel agent originally at the POFQ. Well after the 4th my dad called back because we had gotten no confirmation. Well our reservation got last. Someone didn't give disney the credit card (or something) so the ressie was lost. Luckily the travel agent saved a ressie we had made at the Swan. So now we are staying at the Swan at the same price as the POFQ. Which is a pretty good deal I guess! :earsgirl:

Whenever I've changed reservations, the CM told me that they can't transfer deposits that are made on a credit card. They have to credit your account and then charge a new deposit for the new ressie. The only time they can transfer deposits is when you pay by check. When you pay by check and you want to transfer the deposit, they can't cancel your old ressie until the transfer has been completed. If they do cancel your ressie before the money was transferred, then the money will be refunded and mailed back to you. At least that's how it used to work. It's been many years since I've paid by check, so not sure if this has changed.

When you are changing...

Room Only to a Package - Cannot transfer any money, deposit must be refunded as you booked a CRO reservation, and re-booked as a WDTC Package. You will always recieve a new reservation number.

Package to Room Only - Same as above only reversed.

Package to Package - You will keep the same reservation number as you are only modifying the package.

Room Only to Room Only at Same Resort - Nothing Changes and the deposit stays on your reservation.

Room Only to Room Only at Diff Resort - You will get a new reservation number and the deposit will automatically transfer.

Room Only Booked Online to Discount Room Only over the phone (Pin Code or AAA) - In most instances, Online Room reservation must be cancelled (booked under WDTC) and a New reservation must be booked over the phone as a CRO reservation with a new number.

Hope this helps clear up the confusion! :earsboy: :cool1: :earsboy:

I don't remember seeing anything about our deposit on the WDW website, but it also didn't say we didn't have one. It only said the hotel name and the dates we were going.

The CM we had when switching hotels specifically told us he would transfer our deposit from POLY to POR. He never said you couldn't do that with a credit card deposit. It appears from the post above that for a room only change from one hotel to another (which ours was), the deposit should transfer. The CM who fixed our problem said that the initial CM had made a mistake, that is why they worked hard to get us a room in POR even though it was technically booked.

Yep same thing happened to me just recently too. I had a room only at Coronado and changed to FQ and was given a new number. Called back to make a payment of about 25$ and she said I need to make more than that because the deposit was more. I asked what do you mean, you have my deposit and about 50 extra. Figured out that I was refunded when I changed resorts and had to make a new payment.

No biggie, just glad I knew about it before my 14 days were up.

Maybe the mistake the CM was referring to was that you can't transfer deposits from one ressie to a new one.

We've been told just the opposite from what the CM originally told you that if CRO tries to transfer your deposit from one reservation to a new one because you've decided to switch resorts, that it won't work. It will cancel your old ressie and not transfer to the new but credit your account. CRO has always had to credit our account (and we switch our ressies every year until we get an AP discount) and then we have to put a new deposit down when changing resorts. We just had to do this this past spring when we changed our ressies. Of course, I'm talking about going from room only to room only, not a package since we never do packages as we have PAPs.

I did have one CM specifically tell me we could transfer deposits a couple of years ago just like they told you. However, I did call about a week later to make sure it did transfer and found out from the CM that they can't transfer deposits from one ressie to another and was informed from the CM that it credited our account and that we would have to put a new deposit down.

Maybe this has changed and you can do this now, but we weren't able to this past spring....at least that's what the CM told us then.
