They Ate His Cake

They ate a 6 year old's birthday cake?! :scared1: As a mom, knowing how you do these little things in life to try and make special memories for your child, I think I would have pounded on their door and let them have a piece of my mind.

This is one of those situations where I hope karma comes back to bite them in the you know what.

That's pretty crappy. They still would have had to make a new one regardless if the other family ate it or not.

It's against food safety regulations to serve it to someone else once it has been in possesion of another party.

Eh, I would not be outraged that some other family who incorrectly received the cake decided to eat it. Who knows what the other family thought? Maybe they did say they didn't order the cake adn the room service person left it anyway. Maybe the clueless DH accepted delivery while the DW was int he shower, and by the time she got out and they opened the cake box and saw the name, it was too late to return it - it would just get trashed then. I'd rather someone eat it than see it as garbage. Even if they did realize it wasn't theirs and called the front desk, maybe the desk told them to keep it and some wires were crossed or messages not relayed and not all of the CMs had the whole story.

Judgey-judgey, your pants are fudgy.

I'd hardly call someone a savage animal or a heartless beast for eating a misdelivered cake.

Nice people! Good grief, some people are simply amazing. "Hey it's a free cake, hurry, let's eat it before they figure out it belongs to someone else! They can't make us pay for it!" Oink oink, snarf snarf snarf. :sad2:

Hey, was this other family's last name Dursley and did they have a kid named Dudley ;) ?

agnes!

Rotten. And to know it belonged to a 6 year old?! Lower than a snake's belly.

This cake was meant to be left in someones room (while they were not there)

It likely was left in another family's room (while they were not there).

Obviously the other family should have fessed up immediatly.

But seriously here, if you knew your cake had been left in another's room....wouldn't you want a fresh cake ayway? I don't know, the idea of double delivered food to me is icky.

If I were Disney, I would say "keep it " and get a new cake to the intended family free of charge.

I say I am glad it all worked out, but will hold any outrage.

We were staying at the BWV when we returned to our room one late evening to find a cake, a Minnie drink cup and a balloon with a card. We called the front desk, and they confirmed the items had been sent to the wrong room.

They told us to keep the items as they couldn't take them back and deliver them to the right party, anyway. We presume they went ahead and sent out replacements to "Mary" who was being wished happy birthday from "Tom."

Also, WDW is rather known for surprises so perhaps the folks who found the unordered cake in their room thought it was a surprise meant for them.

It's not like the cake would have been retrieved and sent on to the child. I wouldn't want it to be!

I think your missing my point of the OP.....The cake was delivered in a bakery box marked D_ _ _ _ _ _ 6th birthday to a woman who opened the room door one down & took it!
I would never want my nephew to have a cake someone else pawed but IMHO it's a disgrace that someone took it.
My feeling is you never hurt a kid period...just sad.

What kind of people eat someone else's birthday cake?

The same people that would open and disassemble a gift basket with another person's name on it. That happened to me more than once when I was in the gift basket business. It's amazing.

It is sad. Taking a child's birthday cake. :sad2:

Hey Peg, a little OT for the moment, but I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering this & you're amongst friends on this thread. :) How is your new job at Disney going? I never saw if you posted an update since you started. :surfweb:

On Ace Of Cakes on the Food Network they had a big sheet cake for something in a hotel room. They left for a short time to pick something up and when they got back housekeeping had taken the cake and eaten it.

The moral of the story: hotel rooms and cakes are trouble.

They should have baked another decorated birthday cake and delivered it to the right room.

But your calling them and letting them know of the mistake probably meant that Mary got her cake delivered timely. I can't imagine just obliviously eating someone elses cake without the go ahead.

And if the woman did indeed ANSWER the door, like the OP said in another post, she could have stopped it from being delivered to the wrong room all together.

It is going great! I work with very nice people and am learning some really interesting things from the cast members who work for the florist. I get to speak to people planning their trips to WDW. I so enjoy hearing the excitement in the voices! All in all, I am very happy!

Thanks so much for asking!

1.) I believe the OP said the family accepted the cake- it wasn't left in their room, it was delivered when they were there.

2.) How could they not realize the cake wasn't meant for them? They could have at least called and let the front desk know that the cake had been misdelivered. Yes, Disney would have said to eat it anyway, but they would have at least known the mistake. Instead of having a nice surprise for their son, the family was left calling around and scrambling to get the cake they ordered. That is the issue to me.

Regarding your two points, both are coming from only one side, of course. And she is relying on what other people (CMs) told her. Is it at all possible that a CM might fudge a story a bit so that Disney doesn't look like bumbling fools? Is it possible she is remembering things differently than how they actually panned out? It is a story related to the OP from a friend, right? How do we know the friend isn't a total exaggerating drama queen?

I am not saying any of this is the case, just that it is possible. You as a teacher should know to never take one side of the story as the gospel truth. :)
