These Kids Make Me Wish You Could Curse on the DISBoards (May '11 Trip) - DONE 9/14

I had a lot of catching up to do. Thank you Kristin for informing us of the vacation. My family was at Emerald Isle the following week-the one Candy30 mentioned. So sorry about your bee sting Kristin. My family loves loves loves CSR too. That is probably where we will stay next time, although the updated rooms @ POFQ are fabulous(I had a chance to stay in one on a business trip to Orlando). I love the Jaguar slide and the pool @CSR. Hope the sunburn was not too painful!

Great update, Jon. Glad Emily found a number of friends to hang out with at the pool. And Dylan must have been happy because I saw no mention of you having to set him straight in this update.

And now for your pictures. I was very :sad1::sad1: looking at them today. We had major changes to our trip coming up in seven weeks. And for the time time, we will not be staying at our "home away from home." Yes, you read that correctly. We have cancelled the CSR portion of our trip and are staying elsewhere. It really killed me looking at the pictures just now. But we have promised each other we will definitely try to stop for a gelato at Cafe Rix.

Thank you for the shameless plugs.

It is very likely I will not live up to the hype but I appreciate it all the same.

We will be going through out final prep discussion this weekend after looking at EMH schedule. I think and I will try to update my PTR with a tentative schedule and some food choices soon. Maybe some previous trip back story as well, if I feel like a creative narrator.

Still loving your TR Nilla. Always entertaining.

Monica would give the animals her entire lunch if people wouldn't look at her like she was insane!! She likes animals better than people most days.
:rotfl2:

So proud of you for finally taking a break from the parks so everyone could have a great day swimming!

I had no idea that there was a Coronado springs main pool opening ceremony. cool! The slide looks like a blast. I have to admit I never went down it when I stayed there. Yeah - I'm a little gun shy after I cracked my head on the VB slide. I need to get over that!!!!!

So glad Emily made friends. Not surprising.

Love the resort pictures! I really think CS is the most photogenic resort!

Thank you. We will be back...no doubt. We had planned this trip for two nights at AKL in a one-bedroom villa in Kidani thanks to a friend I work with and then four nights at CSR. However, the middle of this past week, the boss of my best male friend called to say he had points that were expiring at the end of September and asked if we wanted AKL for the rest of the trip -- FOR FREE! Well, AKL wasn't available, but Old Key West was so we grabbed it. It was a kind of no-brainer going with "free" and saving $600+.

I'm glad the thread helped you pick CSR. I know that Jon loves the resort.

We are going to try CBR when we go in June '12. That is the only moderate we haven't tried.

It was between that and CSR last year, and I'm so happy we picked the one we did! I did hear that the buses are awful at CBR, so I don't know if we'll ever hit that one.

Fantastic pictures of the resort! It's so beautiful and really is a destination all by itself.

We love it. Definitely going back there next year.

More fantastic pics!! LOVE IT!! I have noticed that my pic numbers are getting less and less not more and more! I guess I figure I can just pull an old picture out if I need something (who would notice LOL)!!!!

We took more pictures than ever this year, but there were some shots I passed on since we have them almost every year! Oh well - that's a good problem.

I love the Jaguar slide and the pool @CSR.

So do we! Dylan probably went down at least 50 times, and I went down at least 20 :)

And Dylan must have been happy because I saw no mention of you having to set him straight in this update.

He was good on this day, up to this point. Will it last? We'll see...

That'll make it better next time you DO get back. I suppose we all have to break from our routine at some point, right? I'm just not quite ready to :)

I can see that being a bit difficult to get over. I really like the pools that don't look anything like what we get at home. This is one of them.

That convinced us, too :(

Ok, I feel less bad for you now ;)

Updates coming...

Before we head out to Downtown Disney, we are told that everything we have charged to the room has totalled up to an amount that requires us to re-authorize charging to the room keys. What that means to those who have never had that happen is that we are apparently spending a lot of money.

And that's not about to change, because we're headed to Downtown Disney!

You've heard the expression "house poor", but we're "Disney poor", meaning that we'd probably have a lot more money if the Disney company didn't exist. We'd definitely have a lot less fun!

We got on the bus to DTD around 4:00, and we start out by recreating some of our own classic Disney photos:

IMG_5279.jpg

IMG_5281.jpg

Wow, that was surprising. Being the actress in the family, I would've expected Emily's shots to be better. I just don't think they can compete with the originals:

DowntonDisneyRooms2.jpg

DowntownDisneyTDandTD.jpg

Yes, there WAS a time when that boy was much more fun and less miserable and complain-y. Now we just have to figure out how to get him back to that point!

First order of business is to go into this place:

IMG_5283.jpg

...and get Kristin's Mother's Day gift, 4 new boxes of light to go with the 3 we got last year and the one I got for Xmas. After some debate, we choose the following:

Me:

Dylan:

IMG_6527.jpg

Emily:

IMG_6526.jpg

Kristin:

IMG_6525.jpg

I love these things! They're like cool dioramas, only without the string and the shoebox. The CM is really nice and seems to LOVE Disney. Not enough, however, to identify Merlin in the Picture o' Tons o' Characters that's on the counter. She thinks it's the wizard from "Shrek", but we inform her that Shrek is NOT Disney and that she'd better watch her back if she's going to be saying things like that. Ok, we didn't say that, but the nearby guest who finally told us who it was could have been thinking that. She sure sounded annoyed :)

We got them shipped home, because they do take up a lot of room and are too fragile for me to want to worry about carrying them on a plane.

Next stop was the new LEGO store, which just opened a few weeks prior to our visit. Grabbed some shots on the way:

IMG_5284.jpg

IMG_5286.jpg

We'll go in that second place soon enough, but we have to stay focused.

IMG_5287.jpg

IMG_5288.jpg

Awesome!!

Inside, the kids head right to the "build your own LEGO man" display. Dylan told a few of his friends at home that he'd be making them LEGO guys. Emily's building one, too, even though she's not buying any. Fun all the same.

I remember, as a kid, reading a message that came with my LEGO bricks pleading with the purchaser to call the product "LEGO bricks" or "LEGO blocks". Not "LEGOs." They were pretty emphatic about that. It was probably my first real understanding on how copyright laws work.

The highlight of the store, for me, was the Digital Box. It's a scanner that you can use on most of the LEGO city sets in the store. You then see yourself, holding the box, on a screen above the scanner, but a 3-D image of the completed set appears ON the box in the image. And it's moving. Helicopters are flying, LEGO guys are running...and if you turn the box, this image turns with it. It's really quite amazing. Google "LEGO Digital Box" and see for yourself.

The store is relatively new, so the employees are relatively clueless, but we do manage to get checked out eventually. After switching registers, that is. We fall victim to the "cashier items", with each kid getting a "mystery man" leg bag that contains a random LEGO figure. We'll open them when we get to dinner.

So when are we eating? First things first, we need some more photos!

IMG_5291.jpg

This place looks fun:

IMG_5292.jpg

...but our destination if Wolfgang Puck Express. We've heard good reviews, and I really liked the one I ate at in the Columbus airport a few years ago. The one where we ate at the Mall of America last year? Not as good. But we still wanted to give this a shot. I was actually pulling for Earl of Sandwich (who someone recommended to me - feyerm?), but WPE it was.

As we head over there, I comment on how extremely hot it is here today. With no water-shooting Tikis to cool us off, it's all the worst. All of the cement doesn't help, either. Also, the 50 lb. backpack doesn't feel great on my freshly sunburned shoulder.

But "it is what it is". We're at Disney, Jon. Stop complaining!

We reach WPE, and our meals are ordered. I get the Chicken Pesto Focaccia (I think):

IMG_5296.jpg

Kristin got the Pepperoni and Mushroom pizza:

IMG_5295.jpg

And the kids got the Mac & Cheese:

IMG_5293.jpg

We sat at the bar by the window. The kids opened their LEGO guys: Dylan got a hockey player; Em got a racecar driver. I got some sort of cake for dessert:

IMG_5299.jpg

I'm thinking it has something to do with carrots. Kristin got this enigma:

IMG_5297.jpg

The kids got brownies:

IMG_5298.jpg

So what was the verdict? What did we think?

Meh.

Really not thrilled at all. It wasn't bad, but it was our least favorite meal of the week, so far. The Mac & Cheese was far and away the best part. No WDW theming, either (for obvious reasons). No need for us to go back there again.

Oh well, we'll do better tomorrow. No matter - we've got a lot more money we need to spend here tonight!

But that update will have to wait for another night :)

Dude Seriously adorable.

Gotta check out those pictures when we go. They look so cool!

Mac and Cheese and the pizza look yummy. The Earl is mighty good sandwich, but I usually have low expectations of all counter service. Other than turkey legs of course. :rotfl:

Good updates. Sorry you didn't care much for WPE. It's one of our favorite CS since you can get different items from the run of the mill SC. Next time you might want to try the other location. They have some different choices, like the 1/2 chicken which is pretty good, IMHO. ;) EoS is good too.

This is Key Lime Pie-one of our favorite CS desserts. (and a nice change from those packaged ones you get in the parks at so many locations.) Though it does look different from the ones we have gotten there before-perhaps a little smaller?
IMG_5297.jpg

Enjoy reading your updates, can't wait for the next installment.

I think EOS is the place to go for CS at DTD. It's really good, which explains why the line is often out the door.

I did eat the WPE down by Cirque last year and it was pretty good.

I do think the desserts are shrinking!

Meh.

I have to agree...this food doesn't even look very good. :sad2:

I'm only on page 18, but I had to stop because I'm cracking up. not just over your report, which is quite funny, but because we were there at the same time, and my DH is in one of your pictures, in line for Toy Story! Don't know where I was at the time, maybe he snuck in for a third time instead of going to see LMA like he said he was when I went to American Idol lol.

The Earl is mighty good sandwich, but I usually have low expectations of all counter service. Other than turkey legs of course. :rotfl:

I still have yet to get a turkey leg! Kristin keeps suggesting them, but I just don't get hungry between meals. Maybe next year I'll grab one, because they do look good.

Good updates. Sorry you didn't care much for WPE. It's one of our favorite CS since you can get different items from the run of the mill SC. Next time you might want to try the other location. They have some different choices, like the 1/2 chicken which is pretty good, IMHO. ;) EoS is good too..

We're not huge fans of DTD, but maybe we'll check it out next time we come out this way. I think I'm starting to really want to eat at the Earl...

I think EOS is the place to go for CS at DTD. It's really good, which explains why the line is often out the door.

Ok, now I'm DEFINITELY starting to really want to eat at the Earl.

I don't think I have ever seen these...they are really coool.

We also have a Bambi, Sorcerer's Apprentice with Brooms, Little Mermaid, and Cinderella carriage one from last year. They're great.

...we were there at the same time, and my DH is in one of your pictures, in line for Toy Story!

Oh no - I'm sensing a royalty lawsuit coming...

Too funny :) I'll confess that I look at other TRs to see if I pop up anywhere. So far, no luck.

Updates coming tonight! Right before midnight!

Outside of Wolfgang Puck's is the movie theater, and I thought, "wouldn't it be great if EVERY theater in that building had a Disney movie?" Missed Nightmare Before Christmas in the theaters? No problem! What else do you want to see? Mary Poppins? You've got it! Monkey's Uncle? Of course!

I don't know how profitable it would be, but wouldn't it be the best to watch one of those old Disney movies with a theater of nothing but hardcore Disney fans? I think I'm going to go write to Disney right now...

The other thing I wonder is if you get dirty looks and/or snide comments from the staff if you go see a Dreamworks film. In reality, it's probably not even owned by Disney, so none of my fabulous ideas make any sense in the real world. But I can dream. And enjoy some theming:

IMG_5300.jpg

IMG_5301.jpg

This place was themed wonderfully, but inside, it was still nothing but candy. As I get older, I'm starting to realize that they were right when they said that a "Candy Mountain" at Disneyland would probably just sicken guests. Don't get me wrong; I like candy, too, but not THAT much!

Speaking of excess, check out this place:

IMG_5305.jpg

IMG_5307.jpg

IMG_5312.jpg

But that's ok, because Vinylmation does NOT make me feel queasy. Quite the opposite. They have EVERYTHING in here, including the gorilla one from AK that I passed up at the Contemporary the other night. Not missing that opportunity twice, so I snatch him up. They also have this shirt:

IMG_5308.jpg

Next to it, in a display case, is the complete set of Star Wars Vinylmation. You know, the one I didn't know existed. Well, ignorance is bliss, because there's really little chance we'll ever see one of these for sale.

More theming:

IMG_5311.jpg

"BUY THE GORILLA VINYLMATION, JON!!!"

"Relax, big face of...um...who is that? The witch from Snow White? Yensid? Yeah, It's gotta be Yensid. But what about that wart? Does Yensid have a wart? I never really payed that much-"

"SILENCE! It's the witch. You were right the first time."

"Sorry. Anyway, I'm buying the gorilla, so just calm down. Now, I'm confused. What's the deal with these Vinylmation things?"

If the face had a finger, it would've pointed at this:

IMG_5313.jpg

Ahhhh, so that's how it works! Exactly how we've been doing it. Nice!

The kids are in a trading mood, so they each buy one with the intent to trade. Dylan trades I-don't-know-what for No-clue. Emily trades something similar...but what box should she pick? There are 25 total...

Behind the counter, Kristin spots a surprised CM pointing out one of the boxes to her coworker.

Kristin: "Pick 22, Em."

Emily: "I'll take 22."

CM: "Ok, mom...(smiling accusingly)..."

The CM pulls out...Boba Fett! No way! What are the odds?

We thanked the CM (who truly seemed to love her job), then headed back outside.

So Emily has Boba Fett. Guess who wants Boba Fett?

No, not me. Well, I DO, but he wants it more. But Emily does not want to trade it. I advise him to be patient. It's tough for him, but he'll try.

On the walk to World of Disney, Dylan stopped to get a picture of this statue.

IMG_5314.jpg

Wow, that's lifeli-AGGH!!! It just moved! It's a guy painted red (for some reason)! He messes with some other guests as they get their pictures. I don't recall where this is that he's in front of...Hard Rock? Is that there?

Anyway, he was great. We pass by Raglan Road, and it looks like everyone's having a good time in there. Maybe one year. This place also looks pretty cool:

IMG_5315.jpg

IMG_5316.jpg

IMG_5317.jpg

A trio (two girls and a guy) with wacky violins and the like are setting up in the middle of the square, but they won't be on for a while. Moving on. More LEGO pics:

IMG_5318.jpg

IMG_5319.jpg

I think I nailed the angle on that last one PERFECTLY, in a "this picture looks exactly like the one on the website" kind of way. So now, I can download it and have two.

We arrive at World of Disney. Dylan and Kristin are already inside, but Emily and I stop to get pictures with the Princesses:

IMG_5320.jpg

IMG_5321.jpg

We head inside...whoa! Capitalism overload!

IMG_5322.jpg

And if that's not enough, there's artificial character flavor everywhere!

IMG_5324.jpg

IMG_5328.jpg

IMG_5329.jpg

IMG_5331.jpg

How great would a free shopping spree in this place be? I'll tell you shortly...only ours will be far from free!

If you're the one person reading this TR who has never been in World of Disney, it's HUGE. And loaded with merch. Everything you could imagine. And we're in the market for some Disney impulse buys.

I get this shot in the meantime. Love the logo:

IMG_5325.jpg

What's that? We're ready to go? Ok, but first, let's look for that Mickey shirt I wanted to get. You know, the one I'll post a picture of later in this Trip Report.

...

Darn it, no luck. They don't have it. In my size, anyway. I'm sure I'll find it somewhere. So are we ready to check out? Let's see what we got:

Mickey-shaped scrapbooking shears
2 Mickey ice cube trays
Mickey window decal (for Kristin)
"My other car is a monorail" window decal (for me)
Minnie ear earings (2 pair for Emily, 1 for a friend's little girl)
Mickey racer for another friend's son
A "how to draw the characters" book
SuperMickey antenna topper (to replace the Test Track one the body shop lifted from me)
And a bunch of other stuff that we "needed".

Do you have that all run up?

What? Something went wrong? You have to credit it and re-enter it? Now, what could possibly go wrong there?

Actually, nothing! That went surprisingly without a hitch. All is corrected, Disney Visa card discount is applied, and we're on our way. Man, these bags are heavy!

We have an abundance of DDP snack credits left, so our last stop is into Goofy's Candy Factory. We beat the crowd, but soon enough, we're overrun by South American (sorry, I'm too ignorant to further categorize them) high-schoolers, from the "St. Patrick School", of all things. The logo was a shamrock. Didn't seem right.

Anyway, Kristin's fortunately ahead of them in line. I get some pics in the meantime:

IMG_5333.jpg

IMG_5336.jpg

IMG_5337.jpg

IMG_5334.jpg

Wow, that's a lot of...circus peanuts. Who actually buys circus peanuts? Honestly? That's like asking who still buys Tab.

Purchases are made, and we're outta here. To be honest, I could take or leave DTD. Kristin feels the same. We can get most of this stuff in the parks. Some of the stores are really something, but I don't know if it's worth the trip for us. Though I DO really want to eat one of the Earl's sandwiches at some point.

The CSR bus is all the way at the end, but we board in time and are back to the resort.

Nothing noteworthy happens after that. Unload our purchases. Charge up the cameras. Get the kids in their pajamas. Brush teeth. Gym. Tan. Laundry. Bed.

Up early tomorrow. It's our last Epcot day (:() and the start of Pixar weekend. Should be a good one!

Ok, I feel less bad for you now

Me, too! Enjoy OKW, KatMark!

You really took some great pictures at WOD! I don't think I ever looked up to see all those characters probably in fear of tripping over someone or something and doing some intense shopping. We ate at T-Rex-- very loud but very cool. They have a gift shop in the restaurant--so you can peek in if you want to see the inside (it seemed by your multiple pictures you were intrigued).

Earl of Sandwich and the margarita shack! Don't forget about the rita shack. It's not the ditch, but the ritas are still pretty darn good.

Thanks for all the great pictures of all the DTD I haven't been too. Yes - I've been to World of Disney, but I find that place dizzying. And I didn't take pictures the last time I was there.
