These Kids Make Me Wish You Could Curse on the DISBoards (May '11 Trip) - DONE 9/14

Too hot to think about drinking??? :faint: I trust that she will come around. ;)

Kids look like they had a blast in the play area! I know what you mean about it being hard to imagine Epcot in a non-festival state although for me it is Food & Wine. I saw F&G this year and would love to make that an annual trip as well.

Hey! Dylan is eating in Mexico!! :thumbsup2. Those empanadas look yummy!

Great upate from Epcot. Love the character shots. I enjoy reading your trip report very much. Now that I'm back in Raleigh, I'll have an easier time keeping up. (Emma is also at camp this week, leaving us with only one child, a whole week of no sibling fighting and more more time for the DIS boards. ;)) You've helped us plan our upcoming trip and made me laugh out loud. Congratulations on the page views. Look forward to reading more.

Great photopass pics!! Sorry to hear about that crazy morning. Sounds like every morning of our trip. Love times like that right? :)

You did so much more at Epcot than we did and I thought we did a lot. :) I didn't even know that pixie hallow park existed...

I adore the picture of Emily running through the garden, she looks like she is having a blast. :thumbsup2

In previous years, we would rush past the playgrounds with the attitude that "you can go to playgrounds at home", but we let them have more time in them this year. They really do love it, and it keeps them happy. Kids don't really think like adults do when it comes to stuff like that.

One playground we did miss this year was the Honey I shrunk the Kids park in Hollywood Studios, which is the kids' favorite. They haven't said anything about it, though, so I'm thinking they forgot about it and didn't even realize we skipped it, and I'm not about to bring it up :)

I'll have you know that this is a very popular picture among DISer's (you know...the ones whose reports you don't read :rolleyes1):

I WILL read your next one. I have trouble getting into PTRs, and am still really just getting into keeping up with TRs in general, but I'm getting there. It's a process.

Hi Jon, I'v been lurking for some time now and wanted to let you know that I enjoy your TR very much!
And I'm glad you enjoy German food and Beer :goodvibes
On the side: Carlsberg is Danish beer, but the whole Norwegion shop in Epcot is more or less a Scandinavian one...

I'll resist the "fer sure, from Sweden" comment I would LOVE to make right now, and will instead thank you for the beer lesson! I'll have to do some research on Scandinavian beers. The Carlsberg is decent, and works well as an "outside in the heat" beer.

If we ever make it to Europe for non-Disney reasons, Germany is at the top of our list. Maybe it's because we're part German - I'm at least 25%, and Kristin is at least half - but we do love the culture, food, and beer. I also love the music. But more on that later!

Too hot to think about drinking??? :faint: I trust that she will come around. ;)

Hey! Dylan is eating in Mexico!! :thumbsup2. Those empanadas look yummy!

Yeah, we'll see about the drinking :)

Dylan was resistant at first, but we explained to him that it was basically a grilled cheese, so he dove in and loved it. They were a hit all around. I'd definitely eat there again.

(Emma is also at camp this week, leaving us with only one child, a whole week of no sibling fighting and more more time for the DIS boards. ;))

I am actually without wife and kids this week, and I agree - it definitely makes keeping up with these things much easier!

You did so much more at Epcot than we did and I thought we did a lot. :) I didn't even know that pixie hallow park existed...

We also spent 4 days there, so there's plenty of time to find the hidden treasures!

Thanks for the tip on the cod balls...of course it doesn't sound very appealing but I will take your word for it (since I liked the rest of what was on your plate;)) that they are good. Actually I will make my niece eat one first. That works for me :rolleyes1
F&G time is nice.... but you should really check out F&W in the fall sometime. You seem to have a penchant for both alcohol and Epcot (a good thing in my book ) and I think it is the perfect time of year to visit. :thumbsup2
Great PP pictures and great one of Emily running through the trees with her hair flying all around her. :goodvibes
I am always looking for TZ props/nods in the library in TOT....I know...what.a.dork

Tracy

Loving your trip report! I actually would love to know where your wife ordered the precious dress from the MK day. Its too cute!

I love your daughter, she's so cute with that red hair!

Trading places is one of the funniest movies ever! I loved Dan Ackroyd falling so far from his high horse! :lmao:

Thanks!!
I found it on the etsy website. I searched for handmade Disney princess dresses.

Kristin posted!

I love your daughter, she's so cute with that red hair!

Thanks! She had pink hair the other day, until it got all over her hands and forehead...

I remember very little of it. I need to see it again.

Brief updates coming in a few minutes. Just got done putting in 6 extra hours of work...on the computer, so I'm a bit burned out!

Continuing on through World Showcase, we stop next in China to watch those amazing acroba- wait- they're not here. Apparently, they've packed up for good. That's a shame, because they were great, but I suppose they have homes and families, too.

So instead, we head on into the small shop outside of the pavilion. Emily is on a mission to find a fan that will be her very own, and Kristin is on a mission to find a fan that will keep Emily from wanting to borrow hers all the time. The go inside, but aren't thrilled by the color selection. Dylan, on the other hand, IS thrilled by these spinning plates:

Ok, so he hasn't quite mastered it yet. But it's still fun. Nearby, I spot this odd creature:

IMG_4928.jpg

Half doctor, half monkey. Or, actually, it looks more like 18% doctor and 82% monkey. 100% bizarre! Is this some character I would know if I lived in China? Or was the creator simply on <insert name of hallucinogen here so I don't have to get yelled at by the moderator>?

Whatever it is, we're not buying it, even if it IS awesome. The girls exit the store with no fan in hand, so it's off to the bigger store closer on the other side of the walkway. A few shots on the way:

We go inside...jackpot! Emily finds a dark green one that she loves, and the CM who checks her out writes Em's name in Chinese on it. Bonus!

We do some more shopping as the kids hit up the KidCot table. The attending CM is also extremely nice, and since we can't find any good hats to put on the kids for the autograph book, we get her to pose for an alternate shot instead:

IMG_4934.jpg

Meanwhile, Kristin and I spot something Emily would LOVE - Secret Message Dolls, which are little wooden figures capable of housing fortune cookie message-sized strip of paper that you can write secret messages on. Emily's definitely getting one, but the catch is that Kristin has to, too, since you really need someone to swap with. No pics of these dolls for some reason, so you'll just have to Google them. Or check them out in the park yourself. The box Kristin's came in said, "I like coconuts and Monty Python," which prompts the obvious "who doesn't?"

Well, Kristin for one. She likes coconuts, I believe, but can't stand Monty Python. Or most British comedy, for that matter. She has trouble with the accents. I try to tell her it's easier to understand the more you watch, but I don't think the humor is up her alley anyway.

So what were we talking about? No, not Python - oh yeah! China. There's a movie here, y'know. And we're off to go see it!

Outside the theater building, the CM asks the kid if they'd like to Pin Trade. Never thought you'd ask! This guy seems to love Pin Trading, and I know this not because he has a pin that reads, "I (heart) Disney Pins", but because he and the kids proceed to block the entrance to the building while the trade commences.

What is it about Disney that the employees in the parks are MILES above those of other parks when it comes to being friendly and personable? Is it because the guests are generally low maintenance? Is it that they just love WDW so much that they love to share their joy? Whatever it is, it shows, and it's a big reason why we keep coming back. I'd bet it's a big reason you do, too.

Meanwhile, I get some more outside shots:

IMG_4936.jpg

We finally head inside, stopping briefly to say "hello!" to the echo chamber, and then sit down in preparation for the theater doors to open. Only two minutes! Dylan and Emily take this moment to catch up on some fighting that they didn't get to finish earlier. I don't ever recall what it was over, but I'll take a wild guess that it was over nothing important. It's cut short, however, by the opening of the doors, and inside we go.

Emily is really whiny for some reason, and wants one of us to hold her. I put down the 50 lb backpack and hoist her up, but she won't sit still. And she's complaining that she doesn't like movies. I tell her I'm going to put her down if she doesn't stop moaning, and eventually, it's back to her feet. Then immediately over to Kristin.

I love this movie, and really all of the non-Norway movies in Epcot. China looks beautiful, but it'll be a while before I go there.

On our way out, my Mom finally returns my Mother's Day call from California, where she's visiting my brother and his family. Meanwhile, Kristin asks if Mulan will be in the area soon, and it turns out she's in the area NOW. So over we go, and we're second in line. Great! No, wait - not great! We're not ready! We have portable misters to set down, cardboard Duffys to stow in the bottom of the stroller, and cameras and PhotoPass cards to get out of bag. Ok, we're ready.

NO, WAIT!! We don't have the autograph books out!

(Pssst! Come here! Let me tell you a secret: we didn't actually forget the autograph books, but this TR needs SOME drama)

The books come out, we scramble to find the "Mulan" pages, and are set in the nick of time.

Snap, snap, and we're on our way. As we pass the nearly pointless African Outpost, we let the kids go in and have at the bongos. I get out the video camera, and Dylan gets camera shy. I do catch this shot:

IMG_4943.jpg

IMG_4944.jpg

He's taking percussion in school, so he SHOULD know what he's doing. He's not bad, either. Neither is this one:

Although she's more into the performance part. Kristin opens a few of those coke friges, but none of them seem to be doing anything. I forget what they even DO do.

Alright, so we visited a small area dedicated to Africa. Nice. But we visiting a MUCH larger area the other day, in Animal Kingdom. The kids played the bongos there, too. So there's really no reason to have this here. Dylan gets a frozen coke, and off we go.

After AO, it's over to Germany. There's a line forming near the well, so that could only mean one thing: Dylan complaining about having to stand in another line to meet another Princess.

We talk a woman in line from Florida, and she asks her husband if he's hot in his black t-shirt. He replies, "it is what it is", and BOOM - I just stole another saying. Tuck it away, but it will come out again, I'm sure!

I head over to get a beer, and I'm not digging the selection. I got the Altenmunster Oktoberfest, which was decent, but I miss the Franziskaner Hefe on days like this. The kids finally meet Snow White (again):

Afterwards, it's over to do some shopping in Germany, where we find another hat picture op:

IMG_4946.jpg

More KidCot for those two as I go looking for another Martin Gross (the guy from the Biergarten) CD to play when I brew beer here at home. I talk to my Mom again (since the last conversation was brief), but then it's pack to the Showcase. We've got more countries to do, and Kristin STILL needs to get a drink. Doesn't she?

Next updates should be coming Monday night. Like I said, I really NEED a laptop. Or a power cable for the one I have :upsidedow

You've made a very interesting point about the Gran Fiesta Tour. No one rode it as El Rio Del Tiempo and no one rides it now. Did they really think Donald Duck would draw in the crowds? :confused3

I love those empanadas. :goodvibes

Wait, I guess it IS on her name tag, isn't it? Problem solved.

Her name was Nikki.

I am loving this trip report can't wait to write mine when we go next year.

Just found your report and can't wait to get caught up!!:cool1:

I :rotfl2::lmao: at your daughters drumming picture! She looks like she is Jammin'!!! LOLOLOL Great report. Hi Book Mama!

Great update, Jon. Great picture of the kids with Mulan and I like the drum pictures too.

I'm glad you TR got bumped back up to the first page, but, of course, I missed all the pictures. DRAT! Well, let's just keep it on the first page so I don't have travel far to see them when I get home.

Fun update. Poor Dylan - I don't blame him for not wanting to see yet another princess. BORING!!!! :rotfl:

Glad you found some fun purchases in China.

My guess is that Kristin ends up with the ever popular slushie from France.

I really liked it before. I somewhat like it now. I'm all for redesigns, but don't make things worse!

Yeah, I noticed that about 2 seconds after I posted that picture :) Guess I should've looked first...

welcome! And enjoy (I hope)!

I :rotfl2::lmao: at your daughters drumming picture! She looks like she is Jammin'!!!

She took beginner acting classes last Winter, but is unsure if she wants to stick with it. I really think she needs to. Everything is a performance for her.

Great update, Jon. Great picture of the kids with Mulan and I like the drum pictures too.

I think Mushu was with Mulan her in previous years, which prompted a "we really need to learn see ALL of these movies so we know the characters' names" effor on our part :)

The empanadas looked yummy!

They were great. I was skeptical, because I haven't really heard a lot of great reviews of the Mexican food in Epcot, but we loved these. We're pondering hitting one of the table service restaurants there next year.

Kristin was giving me crap about the TR getting pushed to Page 3 just yesterday :(

I'm guessing Dylan's attitude towards meeting the princesses will change in 2-3 years.

You may be onto something with the slushie guess...you'll find out in tonight's update!

I just had to click in seeing your title, and now I see we are practically neighbors.

Subbing now so I dont' lose this 'cuz it looks like it will be a good one!
