Thank you for making me feel better about being a relative avoider.

Oh, I don't even know where to begin on this one. :sad2:

Every year we go away with a large group of people (friends and family) for a week and I'm dreading it because of one family (from our family). Absolutely dreading it! I'm such a horrible person...but they totally wreck it for me. I talked to the mom of that family last night and I was totally upset afterward. I don't even want to go! But of course we have no choice. ARGH! HELP! It's only like 5 weeks away or something.

I thought I told you to come to Pittsburgh on Memorial Day weekend!!!

:lmao:

You know what? DH and I were talking about where we should go and he suggested...

HERSHEY!

But it's way too far to drive and way too expensive to fly. So that's a no go. Bummer. Pennsylvania is a long way from here!

My ex SIL drives me nuts (which is my nephew Sean's mom.) She makes me crazy. I cannot even begin to explain it. (Like she gets MIL to invite her to my FIL's 80th birthday party, gets MIL to pay for her drive down, and arranges to stay with my in-laws. No one in the family can stand ex SIL except for MIL. Not one of my in-laws 4 children stay with my in-laws due to ex SIL staying there. Meanwhile, my brother-in-law and his new wife of 4 years are completely beside themselves with anger over ex SIL being invited to the party. Bad vibes all around. Then at the party when it is time for the family group picture, ex SIL walks up and gets in the great big middle of it.)

This gal is a piece of work and drives me nuts.

My son is going to a party for Sean tonight. I had to talk to his mom several times this week on the phone or text, etc. It gave me a headache. :headache: She invites Chris for a party Fri. and/or Sat. (no plans) So then I asked when and where (because Chris had a thing Sat. which has now been cancelled.) And she says, "Uh, I don't know. What do you think?" (Uh, hello, I am not planning your child's party.) So, I say let me know when you decide.

So she calls again. Same line.

So she calls yet again. Same line. (Doug said he thinks she wanted me plan the party, have it here, do all the prep work, and pay the bill. I think he was right.)

So she texts, same story. Twice. "What do you think I should do for Sean's birthday?"

Then she calls again. :dance3:

Then last night, she calls and a friend has a lake house and they are going there and can Chris go, etc. Finally a plan. (I think whoever owns the lake house is probably hosting the party and bought the cake and food etc. I also think it a parent of one of the boys invited to the party. I am sure she was trying to manipulate people all week.)

I LOVE my nephew, but his mother wears me out.

BTW, she has always been like this. This is nothing new or cancer related. FYI. I think that is why it grates on me so much.

Now all of that being said...

When I am forced to be around her, I find other things to do. 1) I help in the kitchen. ex SIL wouldn't be caught dead in there. 2) I go get my nails done. 3) I go shopping alone. 4) I get a "headache" and have to go buy some medicine. 5) I offer to do an errand like go buy ice. 6) I hire my MIL's cleaning lady to do some extra cleaning for them, so I can drive across town and pick her up and take her home. 7) I have to buy "X" because we will need the day we get home for "X" reason.

Not sure if any of these reasons will help, but maybe.

Also, get a new book, "That you just can't put down."

I am sure some of the other MAYers have great ideas. I may need some new ones.

Lake~seriously, is there anything good for us (the girls, my sister and me) to do in Windsor over Memorial day weekend? It's not a holiday there, right?

Our holiday weekend is the weekend before.
Victoria Day... in honour of Queen Victoria. ( just my little CDN. history lesson for today)..::rotfl:

This is going to sound very sad...but there isn't much to do in this city.
Its very much an automotive town. There is some good wineries out in the county along Lake Erie if that interests you.
Or if you like the Casino.. it's now a Caesars Casino and hotel, and can maybe catch a good show or concert there, have some dinner, the buffet is excellent.

Good morning! Happy Saturday! :goodvibes

Big weekend planned here. Today we are getting an oil change and heading to bob's Uncle's house for a birthday party for his cousin Alyse. Oh, and of course watching the 1st game in the Pens/Caps series. I'm a little nervous for it too, Kait. :scared: But whatev. I'm sure we'll do fine :thumbsup2

Tomorrow is our anniversary :lovestruc and my cousin Jessica's baby shower:angel:. So we finally get to eat that nasty cake.

I'll probably pop in and out - but everyone have a great weekend!!!! :snooty:

Wow, that woman has some guts (you know, guts...only starting with an N instead of a G)! :lmao: And it really bothers me that people (like your MIL) let her get away with her behavior. Good for you to not let her walk all over you about the party.

Thanks for the info. It doesn't sound like kid-type stuff really, does it? I just thought we could sneak over there before the new regulations go into effect. Someday we'll get across that border! ;)

Now you know why we escape and get away so often...

I'm feeling today like I'm Pooh Bear. Or Noah. But Noah was old and had to deal with stinky animals, so I'll go with Pooh Bear. Plus, I can sing the Pooh Bear song...

The rain, rain, rain, came down, down, down- in rushing, rising rivulets. 'Til the river crept out of it's bed and swept right into Piglet's. La-la-la-la-la-la-la,-la-la-la-la-la. And the rain-rain-rain came down down down ,And the flood rose up, oh Bother! The rain rain rain came down down down, the rain rain rain came down down down, the rain rain rain came down down dwon down down.... bah bah bah bah bah bah!!!"

Good grief, someone make the rain stop, for the love of PETE!!!!!!!!:confused3 Who's Pete????:confused3

I am :sick::sick::sick::sick::sick: of rain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want and need sun in my life! Where the heck is Mother Nature???? I wanna slap her.

:rotfl2:

I'm awaiting my Mom's arrival tomorrow. Guess I need to clean or something.:headache:

Trix- I'm sorry you're having issues. Ignore them. Act like they aren't there. NC gave good advice. That stinks when you have to go somewhere and can't look forward to it b/c of idiocy. Stinky, yuck times.

Rf- yay for trips! Trips must be the greatest things on the whole darn planet.

:love::laughing:

Gotta run.

Have a good day, MAYers. try not to get swept out in a flood!

Hello to Sea and Mari and NC and Sulley and Kait and Shelly and Lake and Tas and every other MAYer luker out there.:snooty:

Jo

Good for you to not let her walk all over you about the party.

Let's see, I have been married to DH for 18 years. It took me about 14 of them to quit being nice and to not allow myself to be used. Oh, the stories I could tell...:rolleyes1

Excellent ideas NC! Thank you!!! You are a very strong and smart woman. :worship:

Still learning. I had to start changing things up as one time my MIL said "Oh my, you get a headache everytime you come to my house."

I have also found if I volunteer to do little chores for my MIL, a) ex SIL will not help as that would be work and makes herself scarse and b) I get good DIL points for helping my MIL. Plus, I want to help my MIL so it is a win-win situation! :thumbsup2

MIL has bad knees so cleaning baseboards or cleaning out the lower kitchen cupboards or vacuuming under furniture, etc.

It seems that when I look to be a servant/helper to my MIL that I feel good about helping her, she likes it that I want to help, and ex SIL heads for the hills as she wouldn't be caught dead helping someone else.

Not sure if this would work for you, but it seems the crazies in my family are not much for helping anyone but themselves.

Hello to Sea and Mari and NC and Sulley and Kait and Shelly and Lake and Tas and every other MAYer luker out there.:snooty:

Jo

A terrible flood hit all of Arkansas today, sending the rescue units out. It just so happened that a devoutley religioius woman lived in this town when the flood hit, and she sat down to wait for God to save her.

When the first rescue boat came in the worker called for her to come out but she just shook her head and said "Thank you, but my God will save me." Shaking his head the rescue worker moved on. The waters rose and she climbed to the second story of her home to wait for God.

A second boat came by and the worker called out "Listen lady we've got to get you out of here!" Once again she thanked him profusely and said "My God will save me."

The waters rose a third time forceing her to her roof. The water was just closing around her ankels when a third boat came by. "Lady, I'm the last boat out if you don't come now you're going to die." She just smiled "My God will save me" she said quietly. Frustrated the worker moved on.

The waters rose once again leaving her standing on her chimney. She heard a huge rukus above her head and when she looked up she saw an emergency helicopter. "This is it lady, you have to come now or we won't be able to save you." Still she refused to go.

The waters rose a final time dragging her under and she was drowned. When she got to heaven, the Lord asked her if she had any questions, and in a timid voice she replied.

"You said if I followed you, you would always save me. Why didn't you save me from that flood?" God looked at her in shocked disbelief and said: "My child I sent three boats and a helicopter for you... What else did you want!"
