is it just me or do you find yourself getting quickly frustrated with the new pirates game.. i don't mean in the sense that you don't like the game.. but instead find yourself yelling at the other players who don't no what to do or how to play..
for example.. a person starts a game, and there is one spot left to make an equal game.. if you are the person who decides to be the fourth player once you join you immediately are yanked into the game without chosing your ship.. Gosh people i can't use the stinking Flying Dutchman to try to capture a flag! it just is so much more difficult to do!

oh and one of my favorite pet peeves of the capture the flag game is when you have the fast ship and they have one of the slow ones and you say "i'll get flag my boat is faster, you guard" and what do they do? not only try to get the flag but also get in your way trying to get the flag

I agree. But i have fast little fingers when it comes to choosing my ship. :goodvibes

I also agree that there is something frustrating about the new pirates' game. Especially when people stuck there and block the way. I find it to be really frustrating when the other team will just stick their boat on top of the flag. It makes the game take a lot longer and is really no fun at all!

the only thing i hate is people that i don't know

I think I caught onto the new game rather quickly but my computer kept freezing up. I noticed that mine was not the only one to do it, either. :guilty:

Here's a thought. Why not try to teach those of us who are not familiar with the game how to play? Just because you have played it a while doesn't mean we all have. I think it's rather cruel to complain about new players getting lost and confused. If you don't want to play with us newbies, maybe you should consider starting your own game and playing with friends. Oh, and another thing. Please don't annihilate us just because you can play and we are still learning the ropes. It's not nice to us new players and it's not a worthy victory for you, either.
Just my opinion.

oops i meant i hate to play with people i don't know.

i am very antisocial ask the kids at my school!

I hate being the last person to join a game and not be given any time to choose my ship. But something else that bothers me are the people who bark out orders of "you guard." when the game starts. I don't know you, and I'll play the game the way I see it fit to be played, thanks. Plus it's a lot easier to run and get the flag versus defending the home base, and he who captures flag gets all the "glory". I've never once heard anyone say "You go get the flag and I'll guard". No, it's always the opposite. :rolleyes2 Not that I MIND guarding, I just don't like being told what to do just so someone ELSE can have a good game for themselves.

Just shoot them.. they go boom and you get flag AND more points. ( I heart sinking a ship that hides the flag) And for the record it is NOT cheating to sit on flag. It may be a pain (until you make them go boom), and you may not like it, but it is not cheating, as there are no rules against it. Again, Shoot them, that is what I do....

My biggest peeve... Not letting everyone pick their ship!!!!!!!!

My next biggest peeve........someone who wont fight, and will run away from you for the whole time limit... Not even going for the flag (if playing flag).... they dont even shoot at me.... just run away.... Where is the fun in that? And talk about time comsuming..... each round lasting 3 WHOLE minutes....

:rotfl2: I am one of the ones who grabs the flag and runs! I am concentrating so hard on getting away from the shooters that I forget to shoot back! Left brain ~ right brain challenged! :teeth: I think that people don't give others a chance to choose a ship because they are trying to start the game before anybody backs out....

I know I'm probably repeating, but I think I should state my own grievances.

I surprisingly love this Pirates more than last Pirates. More to do, more strategy. That said, I have problems with the other folks playing not the game.

1. Again, the not being able to choose your ship gets me. I love to play as the friggin' Wicked Wench. It is so overly powerful and I find I can knock out Ship #1 who is on there way to my flag. The rest is downhill. The Flying Dutchman is quite possibly the worst ship ever to has a default: it's only strength is health, which is of no use in CTF.

2. The next one is the people that don't know how to play. I am perfectly fine with the new players playing in level 1, but new players playing in level 2 or 3? You can't get to these levels without playing and learning the ropes! Unless, of course, they piggybacked on the backs of good players in order to go to the next step.

I love it when I'm the WW and my teammate is Black Pearl. I do the usual 'go get the flag, I'll guard' that The Cap talked about. They wait around and sail around the islands until they get shot. I then have to deal with both ships and get the flag further.

I played in a Level 3 game with two other teammates. The game was over in 2 games as they were both obviously inept, unable to follow directions and not exactly knowing what the goal of CTF was.

What I have now been saying after each game was an allusion to Nathan Lane's quote in The Producers:

Referring to Broderick's very bizarre nature, Lane looks up and asks, "they come here. They all come here. How do they find me?"

Why do I get put together with rookie players in every game? How do they find me every time?

NOTE TO NEW PLAYERS READING THIS THREAD: If you are finding it difficult to 'master' the game, I suggest staying in the Level 1 games then progress as you pick up on the strategies of the game. This will allow the players in 2 and 3 to have a better time and not likely to yell at you. We'll live together in perfect harmony!

I usually choose the flying dutchman and say I'll guard since I'm much better at shooting than getting the darn flag. Of course the other person usually gets killed immediately and then I'm too slow to get it, but if I choose the fast ship they either want me to get the flag or the lower health gets me and I get killed.

So basically I just avoid playing Capture the Flag. haha

Sometimes they do that because they want you to lose. I was playing with my friend in level 1 the other day.. And we joined a person and they chose their ships, then they started the game when we got in.. I asked them why and then they said.. "It's easy credits.. That way I can beat you easy" I think when the people do that it's messed up.

My husband is really frustrated with the teamwork involved with this new pirates. Mind you, he always played the computer so he didn't have to deal with others "incompetence" if you will so now he hates it. I heard him yelling at people all weekend on the computer because they weren't doing the right thing. He hasn't won enough games yet to go to the 2nd level where I told him he would probably find better players. Of course as long as other people on the team bring the game down he can't win to get to the next level so I can see how this is equally frustrating.

I on the other hand am one of those "incompetent" players I guess. I understand the rules of the game but I'm not always good at them or maneuvering the ship. I know I too get upset when people yell at you or tell you what to do on the game. It is still fairly new and people should have a bit of patience for those still learning. I know I don't have eight hours a day to play and just get good at pirates. If people are that aggravated they should definitely play level 2 or 3. I can certainly validate being a bit more upset if people can't play at those levels.

I am one of those who does best with guarding. I usually say, "I'll guard" when playing with people I don't know, and the people I play with often know that I'll guard. I choose the winch because I like the fire power. Yes, a woman who loves to blow stuff up!

I don't maneuver well with pirates so I am best at guarding. Find your niche and stick to it. A few times my teammates have gotten themselves blown up and I've had to run for the flag. The winch is not good for running, but a little luck and I've done it.

I've also managed to get myself blown up right out of the gate by a flag grabber and been of no use to my teammates. I feel badly when that happens, but it happens. I've also blown up two flag grabbers at once, so it all balances out.

I always try to let everyone choose their ship, which has backfired on me too, when one more person joins and we have to wait through a last joiner.

Oh, and let's not forget the ones who tell me to boot someone to make it even so we can start. I don't boot. Period. I did it once because I misunderstood someone and felt so badly about it I played like dookey. It was a guest too! There goes MY shot at community leader. Anyway, if you see me start a game and you are in a hurry, you might want to choose someone else's game.

Now, if someone could explain the battle game to me, I'd be happy. But, since I am so bad at that, and I don't want to frustrate everyone I'm playing with, I stick to capture the flag.

That's my rant on pirates. Bottom line is to know your strengths and weaknesses and play to those. And to those of you who are so competitive that you hate being around incompetence, playing an online game geared toward kids (allegedly anyway) is probably not your best choice! Go play World of Warcraft or something.

Good points there. I'm always afraid to get the flag because I feel like that is a lot of responsibility to get it and take it back home safely. Plus, I can never see the spot where it is supposed to go. Of course I would imagine that I'm not alone and probably more people want to guard than get the flag so I could see how that might create some problems.

Oh, and one thing I forgot until you mentioned playing with kids. I know this will probably make some people cringe but my four year old has his own character and occasionally he manages to sign up for games like HM or pirates. I do discourage it since he has no clue what he is doing and I feel sorry for whatever team he ends up on. It is just a reminder though that there are a lot of young kids on vmk. I try to remind my hubby of that too when he gets mad. Who knows...you could be playing a four year old or seven year old and you don't even know it. ;)

I am not a fan of pirates past or present- but I did manage to win two games with strangers and one I captured the flag and got it from one side of the screen to the other in a row boat lol...

But I do not know all the intricacies of the new game. DH used to love the old pirates and gladly assisted me through the levels- but won't even play now mainly because he just has no idea what is going on and doesn't like the idea of having to pay to play the game. (why 21 credits btw- why not an even 20 or 25?)

So for all the people who have managed to become experienced players how about some details in how to play the different games? Fill us in on some basic strategy of what to do instead of just complaining and telling us what not to do.

I know last night I was playing with friends who the entire purpose was to get me to level 2- and I had the worst time steering for some reason- the boat just wouldn't go- not to mention the games I played blind where there were only some or no ships present and I didn't even know where I was starting lol- We played one game with other players after saying over and over in the lobby that we were playing for one side to win so no attacking everyone- and the other kids (who were on my side) went nuts trying to blow everyone away- even in the game we were telling them they were winning and they got all aggressive with it. So there was clueless on the part of knowledgeable players.

Anyway- I'd love some information on how to play the games better- I do like capture the flag better than the old pirates but I'd much prefer to play against computer

Count me as one who hates this new pirates game.

I don't mind paying to play, the payoff is usually ok, even if you lose.

I hate waiting forever to get enough people to play the game (ctf).
I hate that if I am the last to join I never get to choose my ship.
I hate that the cannons seem to shoot at a slightly different angle now.
I hate that when I am in the game someone sees fit to bark orders at me
I hate that the other team always thinks it is fun to gloat and that just ruins the game for me - I absolutely hate mean spiritedness and that comes out in this game ALOT!

I really, really hate that half the time all I can see is the background screen, no ships, no flag, no type, no nothing!

I'm sure there are other things I hate about this game, but those are the ones that come quickly to mind.

I miss the days when AZCat and I could play a few games together against the pirates and a fun time was had by all.

It is 21 credits to play becasue if you go three rounds without going BOOM you get 7 points per round (what you start out with) you break even.... This is for the battle.... where you CAN play against computers....

HTH

AND I agree they shoot at a different angle now.... UGH. But I am getting use to it!
