As I am teaching this morning I can hear my cell phone ringing like crazy from the coat closet. I really didn't think too much of it because I know that if there is anything important going on whoever needs me can call the main office.
So 15 minutes later my director comes in saying "Your sister called, she had to pick up your girls from school" (school and daycare are in the same building). So I go get my cell and listen to my messages and the first one starts out with "Jennifer, this is the school calling there has been a fire and we have evacuated the building."
It goes on to say that they are closing and I need to pick up the girls. I guess I didn't get back to them fast enough so they called my sister who is the emergency contact and she went to get them. Talk about scared.
My oldest dd is a mess. Her biggest fear is a fire. Everyday we talk about our plan in case of a fire, she always needs that reassurance. She has been attached to me since we got home. I hope that she gets over this. I have been trying to spin it so that she would feel empowered by it. That, yes, there was a fire, but that she knew what to do and that everyone is safe.
What a scary day.
