There's an app for that - or there ought to be

There are many smarter folks than I who frequent the boards. Does anyone know of an iPhone app for the internal Disney transportation system ?

I'm envisioning something that would allow you to put in any starting point and final destination on property. The 'magic brain' would then list off your options for getting from point A to point B and the approximate travel time. I'd shell out a few bucks for something like that !

It changes too often. It's too fluid of a system, IMO would never work the way it operates now. Again, IMO..

There is.

Our Laughing Place has an app for $1.99. However, I quit recommending their transportation wizard on the web a year or two ago, because it had too many errors.

I don't own the app, so I can't speak to whether it's more accurate or not.

It's called OLP WDW Transportation Wizard for Walt Disney World.

Pretty slick, Vicki. Nothing new under the sun. For two bucks, I well have to check it out. Thanks ! :thumbsup2

Be careful using OLP. Unless they have made many changes, there could still be some interesting errors there.

The transportation system is very easy to figure out, once you are in WDW. And, if you have specific questions, just ask here. Since many of us spend way too much time in WDW, we pretty know how to get from point A to point B with the least amount of time.

OLP WDW Transportation Wizard for Walt Disney World. I do own the app. We used it last year and found it very helpful. These times they list are an approximate average. So for example at the end of the evening and you are headed back to your resort it's probably not going to be accurate. It was nice to take a look when trying to get somewhere or trying to decide if it was worth it to park hop.

What route does the app show from Contemporary to DTD? From CSR to BWI?

Ok I'm going to do this in two posts cause I need to copy and past and can't to two different things things and get back to this app.

I think this is the places you are talking about. If not let me know and I'll redo.

Take Car directly from Coronado Springs to Boardwalk/BV.
Total Estimated Time: 7 minutes

Take Bus directly from Coronado Springs to Boardwalk/BV.
Total Estimated Time: 16 minutes

Take Bus from Coronado Springs to Hollywood Studios.
Transfer to Boat to Boardwalk/BV.
Total Estimated Time: 50 minutes

Take Bus from Coronado Springs to Epcot.
Transfer to Walk to Boardwalk/BV.
Total Estimated Time: 31 minutes

Take Car directly from Contemporary/BLT to Downtown Disney.
Total Estimated Time: 27 minutes

Take Monorail from Contemporary/BLT to Grand Floridian.
Transfer to Bus to Downtown Disney.
Total Estimated Time: 47 minutes

Take Boat from Contemporary/BLT to Wilderness Lodge/WLV.
Transfer to Bus to Downtown Disney.
Total Estimated Time: 51 minutes

Does not exist - no resort to resort transportation.

Take Bus from Coronado Springs to Hollywood Studios.
Transfer to Boat to Boardwalk/BV.
Total Estimated Time: 50 minutes

Possible, but it would be quicker to walk from Hollywood Studios than take the boat, in most cases.

Take Bus from Coronado Springs to Epcot.
Transfer to Walk to Boardwalk/BV.
Total Estimated Time: 31 minutes

Also possible, but it seems questionable to me that that's quicker than the Hollywood studios approach, but might be

So that's why I don't recommend that calculator anymore.

Take Monorail from Contemporary/BLT to Grand Floridian.
Transfer to Bus to Downtown Disney.

Makes no sense because you should be able to get the DTD bus right from the Contemporary without monorailing to GF. Which absolutely makes no sense anyway as Grand Floridian is almost the furthest stop on the monorail from Contemporary.

Take Boat from Contemporary/BLT to Wilderness Lodge/WLV.
Transfer to Bus to Downtown Disney.
Total Estimated Time: 51 minutes

Same answer for the 2nd one. Taking the boat to WL to get the Downtown Disney bus is just about one of the nuttiest things I have heard.

The direct bus between CSR and Boardwalk was dropped more then 10 years ago. Using EPCOT as a transfer point for guests wanting to go to the EPCOT resorts is wrong. It requires a long walk through EPCOT as well as requiring park admission. DHS is the correct transfer point. The suggested routing between the Contemporary and DTD makes no sense.

Looks like my observations regarding the transportation wizard also apply to the app.

Several of us brought the issues to the attention of OLP. I was thanked and told they would make the corrections. That was more then 5 years ago. OLP updates the names of the resorts and parks so the site has the appearance of being updated.

As you can see from the posts above mine, there are some of really serious errors. I wouldn't waste $2 on it.

I agree with the OP: there should be something like this (NOT the OLP thing). Just because WDW transportation is a fluid thing does not mean there shouldn't be something like this that would give people some more information options than asking a CM who may or may not know everything needed to answer transportation questions.

However, I do agree with others about OLP's "wizard" (and now apparently they're reaching a whole new group of people with their misinformation). Besides the things mentioned above, don't forget about the special Poly-EPCOT transportation option that exists because the Poly is next door to the TTC. OLP doesn't cover that little wrinkle, among others.

I paid $2 for the undercover tourist app, and it has proven it's worth already for spring break, and will do so again this fall now that it's been upgraded. Simply having a transportation add-on to that app would be great. If they can do a "parking finder", distances from your GPS location to various attractions, and park maps (that show you as a blip), all of which it does now, surely they could add in some transportation options on there. It could simply point out what transportation modes are near your GPS location, and list the locations each travels to. That would be simple compared to some of the stuff the app already includes.

Hey, undercover tourist people! You reading this? Get to it! ;)

Makes sense if such an app could give the approximae fare and time via taxi. Such an app would be very helpful if there was a way to tell us the expected wait time for a bus. Some subway systems tell us the anticipated wait time for the next train. It would be nice if Disney had a dispaly at the bus stops which told us the expected time for the next bus. Disney would probably have to do that before they'd be able to make that information available via an appp.
