There's a snake in my house

Why are things so unbalanced? The kids just received 2 puppies? Who's taking care of the puppies since you said they all ready have lost interest in the puppies?
Your home sound be a safe haven & if you have an issue with snakes I would think your loved ones would understand & forget the idea of a snake.
IMHO I would also use this as a lesson for the kids that wild animals are not pets.

I will give my DH an extra kiss & hug when he comes home tonight because we would never bring something into our home that would scare or make the other uncomfortable.

The puppies are still well taken care of. DD10 gave them a bath just this morning. Things are not unbalanced, DH thinks its fair that he should have a pet that he likes, too.
Our home is a very safe haven. It is full of love, joy, and laughter.
I'm not scared of snakes, I find them creepy.
This snake will be returned to the wild because it cannot adapt. Then a pet store snake will replace it, one that is used to captivity. And, it is an excellent lesson for my kids. They know to love and care for ALL of God's creatures. They are all valuble.
Please give your DH an extra hug and kiss because you love him madly and wouldn't know how to live without him. That's what I do with mine.

Here is the thing I would be afraid of, if the kids got distracted and forgot to watch the puppies who made their way to the shower, what will happen when they get so distracted that they forget to watch the snake?????

They don't have to watch the snake because it cannot leave its enclosure. It's DH's pet, he'll take care of it. The kids will look at it through its cage. They are already learning alot, such as snakes can't chew their food, they swallow it whole. They do not eat everyday.

Also, puppies often make their way to places unexpectedly. They're small and quick and if not watched constantly, they end up where you don't want them. They are far from neglected. I put them out in the morning and when I let them in, they are my little alarm clocks, going to each room to wake up the kids.

I forgot to mention, DH DID tell me that if it really bothers me, the snake is gone. It doesn't bother me enough that I don't want him to have something that he wants.

Do you even know what kind fo snake it is?? And was this a "found" snake? If so, I vote for setting it free. SO not right to take it from it's natural habitat. Buy one that has been bred in captivity.

I'm not crazy about snakes, but I get that some people think they're cool. What I really dislike is how they have to stay in that small glass home. Any animal you have to keep in cage or an aquarium, I just feel sorry for them. I know they are safe and probably comfortable, but you KNOW they'd rather be somewhere else, like in the forest or the ocean. I don't even like to see fish in an aquarium and don't even get me started on people who keep rabbits in a cage.

Alas, the snake is no longer in my house. It is slithering somewhere in my rose garden, devouring the frogs and toads that live there. DD10 was sad to see it go and within 5 sec started to ask about going to Petco for a cornsnake. We didn't go last night, but it's just a matter of time. This time it won't be so unexpected and I'll be better prepared for its arrival.

This is my point, exactly. I personally, am terrified of snakes and if DH kept one in the house and disreguarded my feelings, there would be a problem.
Since you are not terrified, just creeped-out a bit, and you compromised together, than I think it's OK. (not that you need anyones' permission.)

DS9 really wanted a lizzard but I just cannot get over the whole reptile/slithering fear so we compromised and he is happy with a gerbil. It still reminds me of a rat but I can handle it!

I'm glad the situation was resolved in a way you can all agree on. Good luck with the new pet when you get it!!

Hopefully the wild snake will not come back to visit the corn snake and corrupt it with its evil ways. I wouldn't want to find out that the corn snake is sneaking out at night to party with the wild one. Make sure to set boundaries.

The wild snake was actually quite tame, not aggressive in the least. I know of pet store snakes that were aggressive. I hope the snake stays in our yard. The neighbors will kill it on sight. I'm not sure if we'll see it again, but I did tell DH that he'll KNOW if I find it while weeding the roses.
