There's a First Time for Everything! A Christmas In November TR

Ok, I know what you're thinking with the title, but no, we didn't go back to MK today. But it will make sense in a moment.

Today was the day I had been waiting quite some time for. We were headed to Hollywood Studios! I was so excited, I could barely contain myself because I would FINALLY be seeing the Osborne Lights! :hyper:

You see, I planned our trip last year for the second week of November because that was when the Osborne Lights had always started in the past. I had done all my research like a good little Disser, so I knew they would begin just in time for our trip. Well, little did I know that about two months before we were to leave, Disney announced that because of cutbacks the lights would not begin until after Thanksgiving! :furious: I was devastated! No way could I change our dates at that point. Too much planning had been done to toss it all to the wind.

I was so upset that I emailed Disney's customer relations and practically begged them to go back to the original early November dates. I just HAD to see those lights! Well, to my surprise, a representative from Disney called me a few weeks later. She was very apologetic, but told me that the decision was final and no changes would be made. :faint: (Yes, I knew that would be her answer, but I wanted to put my two cents worth in anyway!) She did, however, say that they would consider all feedback in making their schedules for 2009. Well, that didn't make me feel one bit better in 2008! We went ahead with our trip as planned, and of' course had a good time, but I was still crushed that we missed those lights.

When I discovered that we would be able to return to Disney in '09, the first thing I did was check the dates for the Osborne lights. I was ecstatic when I saw that the lights had indeed gone back to starting in early November. :woohoo: I was absolutely giddy about it. In fact, I wanted to go to Hollywood Studios as soon as we arrived in Disney World, but they didn't turn them on until November 10th, so I was forced to be patient just a little longer. Well today was Thursday, November 11, 2009 and I had a long overdue date with some dancing lights tonight!! Just as with the German gingerbread man, at last, those elusive Osborne Lights would soon be mine! ::yes::

This was the only day that I didn't follow Touring Plan's recommendations. I went out on my own this time because I thought that we could go see the lights while Fantasmic! was showing to beat the crowds. I wanted those lights all to myself! However, I knew this would mean a more crowded park throughout the day, and it was busier than the previous two days had been but still not bad at all.

IMG_1445.jpg

Just like millions before us, we headed straight for Toy Story Mania fast passes. We saw these guys greeting people on the way back.

IMG_1446.jpg

After picking up our fast passes, we strolled by this fountain and DD wanted her picture taken with "Ariel". I told her I didn't think that was Ariel, so she took a good close look and said, "You're right, that's not Ariel because she doesn't show her ninnies like that!" Oh my! The things that children say! :lmao: But she's right, ya know. Why do they have such a risqué statue as that in Hollywood Studios anyway?

IMG_1447.jpg

I just had to know that the Osborne Lights were really up, so we walked through the Streets of America and sure enough, there they were!! (Yes, I know that I'm bordering on obsession here. :rolleyes1)

IMG_1448.jpg

IMG_1452.jpg

I asked DH to give me the "Singing in the Rain" pose but he wasn't in a cooperative mood so this is what I got. What a dork!

IMG_1449.jpg

Poor DD. She wanted to do it but could barely reach the handle.

IMG_1451.jpg

IMG_1453.jpg

IMG_1455.jpg

We found the manger scene at the end of the street. Do you notice anything odd?

IMG_1470.jpg

Ok, look again, very carefully. Something important is missing!

IMG_1469.jpg

Where was the baby Jesus? I was baffled! I immediately thought the worst, that someone had either vandalized it or that Disney was trying to be politically correct. Neither of those possibilities sat well with me at all. So before I got myself into a tizzy, I found a CM and asked her where the baby Jesus was. She said they don't bring him out until nighttime. Seriously? Why is that? Her response was, "Because he hasn't been born yet. Mary gave birth at night!" OK. But I'll be back to check on that later.

Continued in next post...................

After a long walk through the American streets, we made it to our destination, Radiator Springs! :drive:

IMG_1456.jpg

It was a very short wait to meet these guys.

IMG_1458.jpg

It was a cool day so we made a snowman outside of the Christmas shop. :santa:

IMG_1459.jpg

I think he turned out swell, don't you? :thumbsup2

IMG_1460.jpg

Once again, we slept in, skipped breakfast and went for an early lunch. Our dining destination today was Pizza Planet, yet another elusive thing to be checked off my list today. We tried eating here for dinner last year, but when we arrived at 6:00, they had already closed for the day! But not this year! It was about 11:00 and we would not be denied our pies again!

IMG_1461.jpg

Looks like Santa wanted to get into Pizza Planet too! He could've just used the door. It wasn't locked this time! ;)

IMG_1462.jpg

We sat upstairs by the window so we could people watch while we ate.

IMG_1463.jpg

Mickey thought the view was fantastic and enjoyed himself immensely.

IMG_1465.jpg

Until he was eaten anyway :rotfl:

IMG_1466.jpg

We hit the jackpot on the skee ball machine. It was broken and just kept spitting out balls without us putting in any quarters. :woohoo:

IMG_1467.jpg

DD channeling her wild side

IMG_1468.jpg

We were out of quarters, so it was time to go. (I have to say that DD thought it was neat to eat at Pizza Planet and the games are fun, but the food was nothing to write home about.)

Next stop was the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground!

IMG_1473.jpg

Such fun, but you can loose your kid in about two seconds in that place!

Cont. in next post.........................

DH was very happy that it was finally time to see this.

IMG_1477.jpg

We tried so hard, but just couldn't fit it into our schedule last year. It only shows twice a day so it is easy to miss.

We walked up the bleachers and couldn't believe what we saw. One of DD's classmates from school was sitting right there! His mom and I just looked at each other and said at the same time, "It's a small world after all!" We got a good laugh out of that. We pondered what the statistical probability was of us planning a trip to Disney for the same week, choosing the same park that day, choosing the same attraction at the same time, and sitting in the same spot in that huge theater. Mind boggling!

IMG_1478.jpg

IMG_1479.jpg

DD loved watching the show with her little school friend. What a nice surprise!

Now on with the show!

What a great show. DH was very impressed by all the stunts.

We had to say goodbye to our school friends because we had other friends that we had to meet.

We saw this ad for A Christmas Carol on the way. :santa:

IMG_1488.jpg

That's DD's little head in the candle flame!

We had a little fun while waiting in line for our meet and greet.

IMG_1490.jpg

Ohhhhhhhhhhh, The Claw is our master! The Claw chooses who will stay and who will go!

IMG_1491.jpg

IMG_1492.jpg

How did Sid capture my DD?

IMG_1493.jpg

She's mint in the box. Never been opened!

After meeting our new friends, we had a fantastic ride on TSM! I didn't take any pictures because I just wanted to enjoy the ride. :cloud9:

We got off the ride at the perfect time to grab some front row seats for the parade. At first we thought we had picked a bad spot in front of American Idol, but it turned out to be perfect! More about that to come!

Firsts tally: 54 (Buzz Lightyear, Lights Motors Action Show, Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground, Pizza Planet, Cars Meet & Greet)

Up Next: This CANNOT be happening to me! :scared1:

Awesome update !!! My DGS Loves LMA!!! He went twice when we were there in September !!! We avoide Pizza Planet cuz of the arcade !!:lmao:

"You're right, that's not Ariel because she doesn't show her ninnies like that!"

That cracked me up! :lmao:

(Yes, I know that I'm bordering on obsession here. :rolleyes1

I'm starting to get there, too! The more I see of those lights, the more I realize that I HAVE TO SEE THEM! Hopefully they'll stick with the same schedule for 2010! Could you call again and make that happen please? Thanks! :thumbsup2

I can't wait to see the pics (which MUST include Baby Jesus' arrival, right?)!

Looks like a great day so far! :goodvibes We were at Epcot that day. I remember it being a little chilly. But one chilly day all week wasn't bad!

That stinks that you missed the Osborne Lights in Nov 2008. When I called to book our Nov 2009 trip the CM told me that we would miss them by a few weeks because they were going to start after Thanksgiving. Which is what I expected, based on the 2008 schedule. So imagine my surprise when the Nov 2009 hours/schedule came out and they were starting on Nov 10 -- the day I had planned for DHS anyway!! :cool1:

I agree that Pizza Planet is just okay food-wise.

Glad you enjoyed Lights Motors Action, we did too! How cool that you saw someone you knew there!

Looking forward to more!! :yay:

Hey girl!!!

I am here, better late than never right!! :)
I am going to catch up now! :goodvibes

Yes, LMA is a great show. I thought it would just be a guy thing, but I really enjoyed it too. I know little boys would go crazy over it though.

I hear ya on the arcade. I can only take so much of it too. That's why we only went in with $3 in quarters and when it's gone, we're done. There's just too much else to do to play video games at Disney.

That cracked me up! :lmao:

She cracked me up too. Kids can come up with some crazy stuff!

Yes, you do HAVE to see them. Videos do not do them justice. There is just nothing like it! I don't think my phone call had anything to do with the changes for '09 though! :lmao: But who cares, I'm just glad they had them out early! Here's some pixie dust for you for 2010!pixiedust:

They REALLY threw me for a loop on the baby Jesus thing. I have never seen a manger scene with an empty manger before. It was just very odd. You'll be surprised by the pictures coming up.:rolleyes1

Loved the update.

Thank you!:)

We didn't mind the chilly weather at all. I'd much rather it be like that than for it to be hot. :scared:

Wow! What an awesome surprise on the lights! I know you were thrilled! They are amazing, aren't they.

Pizza Planet was fun, but I totally agree that it was just ok. I think we will try something else next time.

Hey girl!!!

I am here, better late than never right!! :)
I am going to catch up now! :goodvibes

Well, hello! :welcome: You aren't that late. We're only on page 25 and half of that is just chit chat. So come on and join in! I'm so glad you could make it over.

I hate that your TR is almost done. You have such a cute family and I always enjoy reading your reports. You need to book another trip so you can do a PTR. I guess that won't be happening for a while for you though with the baby coming. But that is a great reason to have to miss Disney.:cloud9:

Your DD's comment about the mermaid fountain had me laughing out loud!! Too funny!! :lmao: And the Baby Jesus--wow--they really think of EVERY little detail, huh?! And how cool that you ran into one of your DD's classmates--incredible!! :goodvibes

She cracked us up too. Hearing things from a kid's perspective is just hilarious sometimes!

Yes, the whole thing with the baby Jesus was interesting. Seems a little odd to me though.

I can't believe we saw someone from DD's kindergarten class. What are the chances of that? And the funny thing is that another little boy from her class was staying at Pop Century that week too! We never ran into them but we just thought that was crazy that 3 kids from her class were at Disney at the same time.

That's must be a fantastic trip ~!! Your daugher is very cute~!

Thank you. It was a fantastic trip! And :welcome: to the TR and to the DIS. I see you recently joined. You are in for a treat. There is so much good stuff on the DIS!! :thumbsup2

I think we were close to you during the parade. If American Idol is to the left of the hat when looking at the hat, we were to the right of the hat:). When you post your parade pictures, I will post mine to see if I can see your DD in the streets dancing. Everything up to there, we were complete opposite staying more on the Playhouse Disney/Beauty and the Beast/TOT side of the park. I missed key things this day that I had planned on like a good disser. I forgot to get Toy Story fastpasses when we first got there:sad2:. The plan was to go back that night (we take afternoon breaks since our kids our small), but this was the night we did our Christmas party re-do so missed Osborne Lights:scared1:. It was a fun day, but nothing like I had envisioned for us.

You had a good morning at DHS. How funny why baby Jesus wasn't there! I would have never thought of that. What a small world for sure, seeing friends from home. Thankfully PP wasn't closed for you like it was before and then was for us this time! :rotfl:

I was all set to write this lovely response about how wonderful it would be for you to finally see the lights, but as I neared the end of your update, your next title scares me!!!

Looks like you had a great morning exploring and playing at DHS! Love the pics of DD and DH building a snowman, and all the pictures from the Toy Story meet and greet. Such fun!

Awesome upate!! How fun to bump into someone from school!
I read in someone elses TR about the baby Jesus thing too. They had a picture of it without him too. But no reason as to why. I don't recall if I saw it in daytime, but I know when I saw it at night he was there!! I'll have to look back and see if I have any pictures of it in the daylight!

Wow what a coincidence you saw your friend there. On our 2005 trip we bumped into 2 lots of different friends from the UK and we didn't even know they were going to be there :rotfl:

I love all the photos of your DD, the candle one is great and so are all the Toy Story ones :thumbsup2

I hope you got to see the lights!!!

That was me! Remember we were all trying to figure it out? And now we know the answer!

Great installments! I'm glad I had finished my coffee when I got to your dd's comments about the mermaid. I would have spit all over the screen! Hilarious!

Where was the Toy Story meet-n-greet? We've never done that! Those pictures were adorable! Keep it comin'!
