DD (freshman in H.S.) has had an awesome year so far. Grades are good, attitude is good for the most part.

She has been slacking off in Earth Science a bit . . .her teacher says she has a "carefree" "take it or leave it" attitude. She started out with A's and now she is getting a C. I don't know why she is like this and when we discussed it before she said she was going to do better.

Today I get an email from her Science teacher stating that they had a project about the weather, keeping a log and journal and also writing predictions. Apparently she did the rough draft but was supposed to hand in a corrected, completed copy with my signature. Well, apparently my signature was FORGED on the rough draft. She never bothered to correct the project and I didn't even know it exisited. Unless I'm totally losing my mind and signed something without even looking at it.

I am so livid right now and I'm about to explode. The grounding will be commencing as soon as I get home from work. I'm thinking no priviledges at all, no cell phone, no computer, no regular phone, definately no going anywhere with anyone for 2 weeks.

I needed to vent . . .I'm going nuts! She hasn't gotten grounded for such a long time. :(

well - to your DD's credit - at least she did something REALLY WRONG (forging) to merit the grounding...and not something silly...you know?

Hope you are able to talk some sense into her.

good luck

Just curious what ended up happening with this...

Stick to your guns....sounds like things have been getting very "lax" and you need to set the rules. At the age your daughter is, so many things are going on with boys, puberty, etc., and it's easy to lag with school. Unfortunately, colleges start looking at grades when you're a freshman and it'd be a shame to get a "C" when she had an "A". She could still turn it around to a "B" with a few more weeks left of school.

Ya see, when I was in 10 th grade I also signed my mother's name to a warning slip. Well, she found out. she said if I wanted to be her, then I could start with ALL the chores she does EVERY day!! Man,I was a SLAVE to cooking, cleaning, yard work and every crappy little job in the house for 1 month!!! I never did that again and I never forgot it!

Well, the end result is . . .

She got grounded. She no longer has her cell phone, or any on-line time until she can show me and her teacher that she is putting every ounce of effort into her work and completing her tasks. She was completely devastated. I have to admit it was very hard not only on her, but on me as well.

The dramatics were incredible . . .begging, big huge tears, sobs.

Time will tell . . so far she is very bored.

The good news is that without all those other distractions, she will have plenty of time for schoolwork!!!

Stick to your guns!

You know my DD who had never received anything other than an A all the way through elementary and middle school went through that 'carefree attitude' phase as a freshman as well. She still ended up with honor cords both semesters - but did not do as well as she could or should have.

She didn't forge my signature - but lost a fair amount of points for not turning in grade busters (which require a signature) at all. It is sooo frustrating isn't it.

I do like the consequences airhead suggested. I'll have to keep that one in mind! I'm sure I'll have the chance to use it with one of them for something - eh?

...I was never grounded,I just didn't have time to do anything. Funny what you remember. I can still hear myself saying to my mother,"you mean I'm not grounded?" At first I thought, great!!
I'll come home from school, throw in a load of wash, vaccuum, dust, pick up,start dinner and then go hangout with my friends. NO WAY!!!! NO TIME!!!! Really,by the end of the first week I was begging my mother to change the punishment to grounding. She wouldn't. she's no fool! She had herself free time to do what she wanted. Of all the punishments I had, that was the pits!

I can relate. I also have a freshman DD, and she's tried some things this year that she never did before. Overall, she's a good kid, but you can see her pushing the envelope more and more. I think she thinks I'm a dummy and I was never her age before.

You did the right thing. When our DD does something wrong, we take away the computer and phone and it kills her. There's something about kids these days, if you take away their means of communication, it's like cutting off an arm. I think you'll see good results.
