There should be a resorts etiquette brochure

I'm taking my baby on our first family vacation next month. Nothing gets between baby and a full night sleep. I am taking some serious notes!
Me too in a week. He sleeps 12 hours straight a night! I’m with you! I do have a noise machine AND use an app on the phone too sometimes.

I use the Relax Melodies app on my phone to pick out a white noise sound to help drown out the outside noises. Works great!
I use the exact same. Use it in DS’s room every night. He prefers the heavy rain option.

Interesting. To each their own i guess.

I wish i could use ear plugs. It would be nice. They always fall out of my ears....no matter what type of earplugs i use. its annoying.

Interesting. See with me, if i get woken up by a slamming door for example, it'll take me forever to fall asleep again. Thats why i need the white noise to drown it out. Im an extremely light sleeper so I hear everything. Its rather annoying.
Have you tried silicone ear plugs? This is all that works for me. They’re not really reusable but pretty cheap so I just use a pair once & throw them away.

I, too, am a very light sleeper. I've tried just about everything- and found there is an entire science to using ear plugs. You probably already know that they're not all created equal- but there's a certain method to using them and keeping them in one's ears.

My earplugs still aren't very good because I've not gotten around to buying the really good kind, but I learned how to squish them down and get them in my ears. There are actual video tutorials out there on how to use them. Seems silly but it's true.

The problem now is if I do it properly, I can't hear anything- and as a mom, that's just as big a problem as hearing everything!:tilt:
Crazy thing is I sleep with ear plugs & DH does not, but I am still the first to hear DS. Sometimes I don’t hear other things that should wake me up but will hear him.

Yep, and it doesn't help when they grow up and move away. I'll hear the phone vibrate with earplugs in. They don't even bother to text their Dad.

(PS no offense meant to other Dads. But I'd walk in after a long day and take one sniff and know someone needed to be changed. DH had no clue- he's just not wired for it.)

This thread is giving me life. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: People in tents...prayers to the Almighty while banging a headboard...I'm dying. :rotfl:

We stayed at POR and I don't remember there being too much noise...maybe because we had outside hallways? We actually brought our own fan from home because we're used to the noise (we drove)...it helped SO much.

And I agree that there are people who just don't care. DH and I had a weekend in Vegas earlier this year and we could perfectly hear our neighbor's tv and conversation when we were getting ready for bed (it had been going on for over an hour)...called the front desk...they went up to tell them about a complaint...I listened at the door and the woman was all "This is Vegas! We can be as loud as we want!" :sad2:

Common courtesy goes both ways. Screaming babies, well we all have been in that situation and I will quietly say my prayers for the poor family dealing with it. But, if my neighbors are crazy loud, parting at all hours, fighting, whatever, I will call security. Most people will comply when confronted. Smokers, that's a different story. They like to "sneak" and think no one notices. If they're smoking on the balcony and we can't enjoy sitting outside because of their stench then I will demand Disney do something about it. Yes they paid a lot for their room but so did I.

Edit: I had to add this, my neighbor that lives across the street has an obnoxiously loud corvette. He wakes up my kids at least 3 times a week at 2-3am. He cannot enter his driveway without revving it multiple times. He had the nerve to walk over and tell me I woke him as I was doing yard work at 10:30 am. Sad thing is we are friends and he thinks it funny when I tell him he wakes us up. Tomorrow I will start blowing leaves at 7:30 :)

us too (ours actually averages 13 hours/night :worship:). so lucky to have a good sleeper! and here’s hoping they keep up their good sleep habits on vacation.

good luck on your trip :)

I need to add after this past trip. If you don't want anyone to know very personal details from your life...don't sit in the hallway outside your room at 2 am and not expect to be told be quiet or security would be called. Also, loud talkers in Jiko telling their life story within earshot of all the tables around you. When did people get so loud and want everyone around to know their business?

I enjoyed reading through this whole thread. I’m not going to go into a lot of detail but we had some awful neighbors this last trip at pop. I had never had consistent rudeness from others until this trip. I had politely told them on different mornings that were trying to sleep. They would apologize and it would happen again. They just didn’t seem to care that their children were waking up the entire floor each morning.

I also wanted to comment on the smoking because I had never had problems with that until this trip either. I can’t tell you how many people we saw walking around parks smoking. I distinctly remember a guy at Epcot just walking around the countries smoking. Then we were standing up on the balcony in Japan waiting for illuminations and someone decided to come up there and smoke by us. I didn’t come up there to smell your smoke, I went up there to find a nice quiet spot to wait for fireworks.

I dont remember if i've tried silicone. I'll give it a shot, hopefully they'll work. But honestly, my white noise machine works beautifully. :) But thanks. When i travel i might grab a few just in case.

:lmao: Men! They dont hear squat when they sleep (or they just pretend not to hear).

My favorite hotel in midtown Manhattan that we sometimes stay at when visiting DD28 offers white noise machines. You can request one online along with many other items when you make a reservation. The hotel is not on a terribly busy street but if you end up on a low floor, it can be extremely helpful.
Wow thats amazing! I wish more hotels were equipped with these. Perhaps instead of the useless clock radio they could have an all-in-one clock/white-noise machine.

Isn't it funny how that works?

I swear I never slept the same since I had kids. Even after they became sound sleepers I continued having trouble sleeping through the night. They range from 18-25 and I still don't sleep soundly. Before kids? Not a single problem.

This is me too! slept beautifully before kids. Now, im such a light sleeper. Maybe its a mom thing. :)

I don’t get annoyed by noise at the hotel. I live in a house with 8 people, including a toddler with special needs. We’re some loud Italians! I have to actually stop myself from talking at my regular volume when I’m walking back to the room at night. Have to use my inside voice :ssst:

I do get a little annoyed when people shout and act obnoxious on rides. On tower of terror, especially. I always get stuck with teenagers that think it’s funny to scream bloody murder the entire ride. Usually school field trips. Like I said, I’m okay with loudness. But I always feel bad for children that get scared by the shrieking.

Indeed! They even let you request an additional empty fridge, in addition to the one stocked with typical hotel stuff do we store extra water bottles, restaurant leftovers etc. We request defeathered bedding for DD23. And you can request your choice of at least 6 room types, we have booked twice into one with a balcony with flowers in summer months. They have a club room with complimentary continental breakfast: abundant fresh fruit, muffins, croissants and pastries, orange juice, boiled eggs, yogurt, capuchino. At night, they revert to a 3 hour happy hour with wine and crudités. Located on 56th street, it’s within walking distance of Central Park and Times Square and right down the street from MOMA. We love the LES too, but this hotel is perfect for us.

How about pick up your trash?
Of course that happens everywhere too but people who eat for example and just walk away leaving everything on the table should be slapped in the head.
It's not someone else's job to,pick up after you and in most cases someone else is waiting for the table.
