Gaffney is a sweet little town. I really like the giant peach. I can't imagine who would do such a sick thing to his friends and neighbors. It's like that sniper that was killing people in DC a few years back. I hope they catch him real soon and y'all in Gaffney can be safe again. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims. It's a terrible thing.

We are scared here in Spartanburg too! We live right off 85 about 10 miles from Cherokee County and it seems so random. The first victom was a family friend. It is like a TV show...almost unbelievable!

Our 4th of July holiday is basically on the back burner. However most people I know are really practicing their right to keep and bear arms. I am even carrying a weapon - something I have never left my house with.

Remarkably, this evening I saw one woman out walking alone on a rural road and another couple strolling an infant like nothing is going on. There is no way I would be out exercising with a serial killer on the loose.

My own dog scares me if it looks like it hears something.

Sounds like a spree killer (No common denominators among the victims, no "cool off" time between murders). Most spree killers are very unstable and are caught quickly. I hope this will be the case for you.

I can't blame you for wanting to stay home. I'm sorry this is ruining your Fourth. Do you have family elsewhere you can celebrate with?

I live about an hour from that area. I hope they catch him very soon. They had a story on the news that the pawn shops have had the highest number of gun sales in the last few days, than they have in 40 years! They were saying that 40 years ago, there was a seriel killer in that area known as "The Strangler". The guy on the loose now is actually shooting to kill. Very scary!

I saw this on our local (Savannah) news this evening! How shocking! I used to live in Greenville and went shopping in Gaffney at the outlet mall. We bought a dog out there years ago. I can't imagine what it feels like to be in the middle of this..please be careful!

Hugs to you! I lived in DC during the sniper time and it was terrifying. I remember this woman bobbing and weaving when she was getting gas. Most people ducked low at the pump. It was terrifying.

I hope he/she is caught soon...

Earlier I saw that they have released some sketches of the suspect. Hopefully someone will recognize him.

I saw a few people ask but didn't see your response - do you have family you could go stay with elsewhere? We live in NC in a cluttered house but you are more than welcome to come up here. We have a dog and cat if you can handle that. We have a couch and an air bed. Our house isn't dirty, just cluttered. There is some animal hair here and there that we miss from time to time. You really are welcome to come up here until he is caught.

I saw this thread earlier in the day but just hovered over it. I didn't realize until it was CNN's lead story a few minutes ago that it was in Gaffney, SC. My brother lives there, but I've never been there. I'm not really close to my brother, and haven't talked to him in a couple of years, but this is pretty scary. I hope they catch this person soon. How scary!

I live just across the state line in NC. Cherokee County is our neighbor to the south. I am a 911 dispatcher and we have been getting calls all night about poss suspect sightings in my county. I hope and pray that this is over soon and this guys is caught. I am praying for all of the family and friends of the victims. We all need to keep an eye out and be aware of our surroundings. And there is no way in heck that I would knock on a strangers door in Cherokee County or Cleveland County.

I would love to go stay somewhere else, but we have obligations to our jobs and family.
Today is July 5th and even with an updated sketch no one has recognized him. Supposedly he has big blue eyes.
His last victim, the 15 year old girl, died yesterday bringing the total of deaths to 5 in a weeks time.
Each night I set all these ****y traps around my house so that if he tries to enter I will hear a sound hopefully. If someone knocked on my door even in the daytime I believe I would faint.

I heard about that poor girl. I also heard this isn't the first time this poor town has had serial killer. How big is your town

About 53,000 people in the entire county. And yes there was a serial killer here 40 years ago that killed 4 young women/girls. Now this killer has surpassed that with killing 5. Every where I go, I look for him and his vehicle.
