It's great to see a new thread :cool1:. We will be checking into BC in 4 days...I am so excited I can't contain myself :dancer:. Unfortunately before we leave my family will have to attend a wake/funeral for my uncle who passed away early yesterday morning. It's heartbreaking, not just because of who he was, but the fact that he was such a huge Disney fan himself. I will be thinking of him a lot while we are on our trip.

I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle. Your uncle would want your family to have a fabulous vacation. It sounds like you have a busy few days ahead.....just keep swimming, just keep swimming. Everything will get done.

We have been taking my nephew who was in Kindergarten and then first grade for our trips. It's a two hour tour so it's not too long for anyone, even a child. The guide was paying special attention to my nephew, helping him bait his hook and bring the fish in when he got one. That was great for the rest of us as we could enjoy fishing with out having to stop and help my nephew. It's catch and release so the guide would help take the fish off of the hook for anyone who needed the help and slide it back into the water. My nephew has been getting about 5 fish during these two hour trips so it keeps him entertained. He also spent some time playing with the bait fish that were swimming around in the holding tank. :thumbsup2

When you call that number (1-407-824-1219) let the guys know when you are coming for your trip. The smart thing to do would be to let them tell you where the fish are the most active right when you are at WDW for your trip. Then you would go to that location as opposed to picking a predetermined location. Of course you would have to wait until right before your trip to call and figure out where you would be going BUT it's only a cab/car ride away on Disney property!

As an example of this we had a REALLY GREAT fishing trip in Bay lake one year. We booked the next year's trip at Bay lake thinking it would be the same but the fish were the most active at Carribean Beach Resort. When went out the second time during that same week our guide said we should go to CBR and that's where we had more success.

So the next time we book our fishing trip we are going to call that number. I would call and reserve in advance of the trip as opposed to a few days before because they don't have that many guides on call.... waiting for last minute reservations, and if you don't reserve the trip in advance you may be out of luck.

We are going to ask for Dan from Apple Valley Ohio, who is very knowledgeable and very kid friendly. I've heard that all the guides are great so no sweat if you don't get Dan, but we REALLY LOVE DAN!!! :thumbsup2

We are going to reserve a fishing trip but let them know that we want the guides to tell us where to go the week of our trip based on how active the fish are during the week we are there.

When you call that number it's a DIRECT link to the fishing dept. and not the call center with the general reservation agents who know next to nothing about the fishing trips. The guys are frequently out helping people with the boats etc... so don't be afraid to leave a message.

When you do things this way you are going to let the experts tell you exactly where the fish are biting for maximum enjoyment!!

Two hours on the lake is not too long for anyone, even people who don't fish and the guides are all about making that experience as fun and as comfortable as possible. There are sodas and water on the boat, towels to wipe your hands, a guide to bait the hooks and take the fish off and comfortable seats to sit in and enjoy the beauty of the setting. Even if you don't fish I would consider going along just to enjoy the experience it is that fun! The boats hold 5 people so there will be room for you.

Thank you for taking the time to tell me all this. I have wrote down notes!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!

Just wanted to drop in and say hi! :) We are going to be staying at Beach Club this October 31-Nov 6th...our first time! We are very excited! This is actually the first time we've stayed at a deluxe resort! (We've stayed in Villas before at Saratoga Springs, but never at a deluxe hotel!)

Thanks so much for all the awesome info in this thread. It has been really interesting to read.

:D

Okay, so after falling too far behind, I'm all caught up on this thread. There are so many things to comment on from excited "Yays", to sad condolences, and back to some smiles and laughs but I'm not able to comment on each and every post that I'd like to.

My family has been busy lately. My husband and I spent the week of May 3-9 down in Fort Myers, Florida with another couple. We've been friends with this couple forever (meaning since Kindergarten, for me) and had a great time going to the beach, doing some shopping and spending a couple of days in Key West. Given the loonnnng winter many of us on the boards have been enduring, it was amazing to have 6 straight days of glorious sunshine. (I totally get why Teena moved to Florida!)

These are big times for our 17-year old son. Our time in Florida was his first major time at home alone and he did a fantastic job of responsibly taking care of himself and our dog. In even bigger news our extremely introverted, independent son shocked us this week by telling us he is going to his prom. He's never been anywhere near a school dance so we didn't see that one coming. After a few days of discussion on what to wear (noting that he should aim higher than his desire to just wear an old shirt and one of his dad's ties) we got him into a menswear store on Saturday where the clerk was able to convince him that wearing a proper suit was a good idea. So my son is growing up fast and I can't wait to see him all decked out in his new clothes. His long hair and current choice of shoes are still questionable but we have another weekend before prom where we could make some headway on those fronts.

This is a holiday weekend celebrating "Victoria Day" in Canada. Officially we use this day to mark the Queen's birthday but in reality it marks the beginning of summer where people try to get outside, enjoy some beverages (which is why many call it the May 2-4 weekend, because there are 24 beers in a case) and end the day with some fireworks. We aren't campers and I'm not a beer drinker, but I did enjoy a glorious afternoon with a walk in the sun, followed by catching up on the Dis board with a margarita at my side.

Now let's get this back on topic.... The next big thing in this house is to count down the next 90 days until we arrive at the Beach Club! We have our dining reservations in order and have spent some time this weekend discussion our Fast Pass desires.

This trip will be our first adults only trip, with our son staying home alone again. It is so strange to travel without him.

Our approach will be to hit a park in the mornings, enjoy the resort in the afternoon and then head out to a nice dinner with evening entertainment tbd.

Here's our dining reservation list:
  • Aug 17 - flight arrives at 1:15 pm which gives us plenty of time to settle in before our 7:30 pm dinner at Narcoossees
  • Aug 18 - an early 3:50 pm reservation at San Angel to leave us lots of time to get back to the BC for the 6:30 pm meet up (so can't wait!)
  • Aug 19 - 8:30 am Keys to the Kingdom tour (that is going to be fun) and then back at Cape May for dinner at 6:35 pm
  • Aug 20 - 7:30 pm at Tokyo Dining
  • Aug 21 - our first time checking out the Dolphin with a reservation at Shula's at 6:45 pm
  • Aug 22 - We are heading over to the Grand Floridian Café at 1 pm because we loved our meal there on our last trip, and then we go collect pretzel rolls at the Biergarten at 7:30 pm.
The trip is going to fly by so fast. I can't wait to eat at all these places, but we had at least as many choices that didn't make the list because we ran out of days.

I definitely want to drop by the Captain's Grill for breakfast one day, and am happy to note that the Keys to the Kingdom tour has lunch at the Columbia Harbour House because we love that place. So much fun dining, so little time!

And of course there will be stops around the world for pastries, caramel treats and beverages. When not at dinner we might be spotted at a France beverage cart or settled in at La Cava. (mmm)

We will also look at checking out Jelly Rolls at some point (hoping that you don't need reservations.)

I know I shouldn't wish the summer away, but I can't wait for the next 90 days to pass by!

Thank you all for the kind words, these next few days will be tough between going to the wake and funeral, getting the house ready for us to leave, and finishing my packing that I will definitely be busy the next few days. The good thing is that these next 4 days will go by like a flash of light :goodvibes. As for my uncle, I know he will be looking down at us and smiling because WDW was his happy place too.

Sounds amazing!! I hope you enjoy the Keys Tour as much as I do/did! I'll be going on it again in November!

When DD and I were there a few years ago we had dinner and drinks at Shula's. My dad had some swamp land in Fla. and when he passed away years ago it was left as community property to about 25 people... really it was like 10 people... my share was enough to cover dinner at Shula's so DD and I enjoyed dinner there on my dad!! It was really amazing and soooo good!

When DH and I were there in September we hit Jelly Rolls a few times DH loved it there!! He has requested we return there in November when we are there!!

I really wouldn't wish summer away either, but the sooner August is over the quicker I'm headed to my new home in Dallas!! I can't wait!! I really wish I could manage to make a trip for the DisMeet, but maybe next time :) Hope you ALL have a great time ! Take lots of photos to share with those of us not there!!

We have never gone to Jellyrolls but have been very curious about it. Is there a cover charge? Does it get crowded? What time does the action start?

You are one of my Disney role models, so if the Keys tour, Shulas and Jelly Rolls are good enough for you, I'm sure we will love them.

I know that packing up for a major move is stressful, so I think you would do yourself a world of good if you took 48 hours or so away from packing to pull off a Dee like whirlwind trip down to the BC on August 18. :) (or your absence just makes for a good reason for a future meet.)

There is a cover charge... don't remember the cost though. It does get crowded, but we went during the week got there early and got a high table in the back. I wanna say we got there around 8 or 9 maybe. It's one of those things everyone should try at least once!

Hi there, hope you are having a great trip! Could you explain this please? Is it just a paper band so that they know you are a YC/BC guest and have permission to swim at the pool?

Happy Victoria Day to you too!! Here on the wet coast it rained :sad2: some kind of cosmic joke!! Was hot & sunny all the work week, then bam! Oh it's a long weekend? Let's cool down & rain. Sheech!! Really it wasn't as bad as they predicted. But DH cancelled his golf game yesterday because of predictions :sad2: then yesterday turned out not that bad!!

Love your rezzies! Narccoosse surf & turf, yum!! Also love GF Cafe. It's a hidden gem. Never tried Shula or Tokyo Dining. We have so many excellent Japanese restaurants here in Vancouver I'm afraid of trying Tokyo Dining.
Looking forward to hearing about it.
We arrive on Aug 20 at Poly. :beach:

I had white wine with ice in my refillable mug! :rotfl: Classy. :thumbsup2

Uh oh, was that bad? I'm always breaking rules I don't know about! :rotfl: I won't do it again if it's not allowed.

I would imagine you can carry a drink over there though. I bought a fruity mixed drink at Hurricane Hanna's and drank it over on the rocking chairs at Yacht Club, away from the pool. :)

Those resort mugs can hide a multitude of sins :drinking1 I byob white wine or vod & OJ to pool as well. And I use it at Epcot to carry back thru IG one of those lovely slushy drinks from France. Grand Marnier slushy mmmmm!!!

Yes. It was a blue paper band. They were doing this so they knew they verified your band already. I think it is to make it easier on the life guards that patrol the slide area.

Hi everyone. Just now getting a chance to check in for today. We had breakfast at CRT this morning. It was amazing! We also did the rushes desert party. I can say none of us were a fan and we will not repeat it. :( I really should try to sleep. However I am still wired. Please let me know if I can answer any questions or check something for someone. We are heading to animal kingdom tomorrow.

We will have to consider a Dis Meet the Sequel, perhaps for some fireworks on the beach!

:thumbsup2. I'm still sad about missing Teena this trip and BC Dis meet! I'll be at Universal Portofino ( without car) 17th - 19th. If I had a rental I'd drive over for it!

Hi

We're staying at BCV for the first time in January 2015 and we are so excited!!!

I've read a few things about a refurb but it all seems a bit vague, does anyone have any more info on this?
