...where you just need to back off and say, No More.

It's like a drug, gambling. You just want to win so badly, you up the odds none stop. And like gambling, in an auction, often there's always another person on the winning end.

Former seller with a store . Nightmare imho. changes were made for seller Accts and it made it very difficult.
Rarely ever make a purchase and definitely no selling lol

Never used Ebay to buy/sell anything. Seems like too many ways to get scammed especially with auctions. How do you know you aren't bidding against a friend of the seller who is purposely trying to push up the bid price?

I purchase a lot there, only way to find rare games anymore. Just do one bid, the max of what I'm willing and that's it.

Beats the heck out of auctions I've been to on sites like FB.

I sell on eBay for my side gig and am still doing well.
A former co-worker did that as a side gig. Did well enough that he quit his job and made that his full time job. But that was 15 years ago. He moved away, so no idea if he still does that. His business model at the time was buying household items at garage/estate sales for $10 or less, and then doubling the price on eBay.

There IS another trick - disguising prices with postage. Con artists will set very low Buy It Now prices and then ramp up the costs in postage and packaging. Case in point - $199 for a Sega Genesis, 32X and Sega CD (a "Tower of Power", which usually go for $300 - $400) but wanted $120 for postage!

I don’t believe I’ve bought anything via eBay auction in over 18 years. It was interesting, but after a while it got tiring trying to beat out other bidders.

I have bought stuff more recently at a Buy It Now price. That I have no problem as it’s more a marketplace.

I buy and sell on eBay but don't sell too much anymore. It's too risky especially on higher priced items where you are basically depending on the buyer to be honest to not get scammed. 99% of buyers are honest but if it's an expensive item you get scammed on, it hurts.

Years ago I understood why sellers did that (not that I agreed with it) since the final value fees were just on the selling price and not shipping but now that the fees are on the total price, they aren't saving anything by charging a high shipping price.

I mean if you're advocating traveler's checks then Ebay shouldn't really be that shocking...
LOL. Just saying. There were a number of store front businesses here that would "help" you with your eBay sales. They have all gone belly up. I can still get Traveler's checks at American Express.

I spent a good chunk of my long weekend listing things on eBay. I got three packages to take to the post office tomorrow.

I don't worry about it. I put my max bid in. If someone wants it more than I want to pay, good for them.
