There are no sharks at WDW, so let's go!!!

I think I'm going to "try" and talk DH into driving this year. I can't find any good airfare, and with gas being affordable, FINALLY, we could travel for $137! Granted we would add miles to the car and time in the car, but I think it would be cheapest for us. Might even suggest camping on the way down to cut costs. Believe it or not it's cheaper to fly out of Dayton than Detroit. We would save over 200 bucks! We'll see???? :confused3 :confused3
Hi Lisa
Have you looked in to flying out of AKron/Canton I have been trying to get and idea and found airfare on Airtran $86 to $146 IN June.

I hope your daughter feels better:flower3:

Thanks Grace. I'll have to go and check it out. DH is fighting tooth and nail about this driving thing. Butthead!
Abby is feeling a little better. She had some blood on her cotton ball this morning, so I'll have to keep an eye on that. She's home from school today.

Okay Grace, so I checked out airtran out of Akron, which is quite a drive for us, but anyway. It's $86 each way, not the best times, but with taxes it's $966. I guess I see flights out of Detroit, sometimes, for $125 r/t. I'll keep looking, but I'm already convinced that I want to drive. We'll have to shorten our trip if we fly.

Well, it didn't take much convincing of DH. I just told him it could mean the difference of us not going or going. It's only 4 more hours than if we were going to my parents house. Like one more movie?? Big deal.
So, we hadn't talked much about it, driving that is, and then last night while laying in bed DH says "well, I suppose if we drive we could spend a day at Universal". "So, we're driving?" "I guess..."
Yippee!!! I kinda knew he was going along with me earlier in the day when DD17 was complaining about driving. "NO WAY! I'm NOT driving!" o.k, says DH "you don't have to go".
So, that's it ladies and gentelmen. We are taking the LONG road to WDW!!! My kids are FINALLY going to see somemore of this beautiful country! :drive: :drive:

We drive every year and love it. We love being able to pack whatever we want and always have it with us. We love making the journey down to Florida, it's half the fun of getting there! Plus driving through the mountains in TN is gorgeous!

I think the drive would be around 17 or 18 hours. My folks live 13 hours away, so what's another 3-4 hours, right? Yeah, I'm not camping. It was a nice thought, but there's bugs and dirt. So, that leaves that out!!

That is a long drive, I don't envy you for that. I get bored with the 4-5 hour drive to my Mum's. But then again you have a much more interesting country to drive across, I'm sure I wouldn't mind doing it a few times. Plus if I was driving I wouldn't have to worry so much about luggage and about not buying breakables. So your planning on spending a day at Universal then?

Hey Lisa!!! I'm here!!! I have LOTS of catching up to do!!!! Can't wait to read all about it!

I think so. We'll see. It might all depend on money. I know my kids would like to go. So, here's a question for you. Which park has the best "big" rides? IOA or Univ. Studios?

Thanks for coming over!! So excited to have another friend along!! :cheer2:

Definitely IOA for big rides. Universal is mostly movie scene type rides, with the exception of The Mummy coaster. IOA has The Hulk and Dueling Dragons, 3 big coasters, Dr Doom, a ride a bit like TOT, 2 big water rides, plus the Jurassic Park water ride, and Spiderman, a brilliant 3D ride thing. Its all really well themed too, so bright and colorful, its great :thumbsup2

Then that is what I'll do. I'll research IOA. Thank you for telling me about it. It sounds like something everyone, but me, will like. I'm not a thrill ride person, but all the kids and DH are. I just hate to waste a ticket on me. But, if there are water rides, I'll do them.

definately IOA!! The Incredible Hulk roller coaster is awesome and the Spiderman rides we do over and over!

Enjoying reading your TR - looking forward to the up a coming one also.

:thanks: And welcome!!! Thank you for the info on IOA! We've never had a car down there, so I'm hoping we can take advantage of the car thing.

Okay everyone. Some "potential" big news. (I'm hoping it works out) DH was contacted by Animal Planet and they are trying to put a show together featuring DH. Originally they were talking about having us out in L.A. the first or second week of Feb. Now they told us that they have to push production back a week or two. So, we'll see. I think the show is something along the lines of like, when animals attack or surviving animal attacks. I'm pretty geeked because they would fly us out there and put us up in a hotel. But, at the same time, I'm trying not too get to excited about it in case it doesn't happen. I will definately fill everyone in when I get a for sure and plane tickets!! :)

Congrats on driving! We drive down every year and it's also around 17/18 hours. It's a trek but completely worth it, in my opinion. It's cheaper than flying and we can bring as much stuff with us as we want. It's also fun getting to see some of the country, and we stop overnight in Savannah which I LOVE! It's an adventure, that's for sure!

Definitely go to Islands of Adventure. We love both Universal parks, but there's nothing like Islands of Adventure, it really is just like walking right into a fantasy world. The rides are great and everything's so unique! :thumbsup2

I'm actually looking forward to driving, although the rest of the famdamnly isn't! :rotfl:
I'm definately leaning towards IOA. I'm using everyones' advice!

Well, I'm all caught up!!!! YEAH!!!!

The fly/drive dilemma is such an ordeal!!! Why does flying have to be so expensive!!!! We literally live 5 minutes away from the Cincy airport, yet would be better off if we drove the hour up to Dayton to fly out. I want to know the secret to getting cheap airfare----I know SOMEONE out there knows it!!!! ;o)

Hi Lisa:wave2:
I'm so confused about airfare , it's so expensive, time are never good.
I have to check out Detroit, but that would be a 4 hour drive for us.
I would like to drive, but we would need a bigger car with all the luggage and baby stuff.
How's Abby feeling? has she had alots of problems with her ears?
Have good weekend. Did you get alot of snow on Wed? We got 10 inches.
Grace

Great news Looking forward to hearing more!!

:cheer2: :drive: YEA!!!To DRIVING YEA!!:cheer2: :drive:

I guess if I had read moreI wouldn't had to post the stuff about the air fare!!! OH!!! silly Me!

Ooohh how exciting! It still sucks that DH had to go through an actual attack to be on the show (that sounds crazy even typing it!) but at least you'll all get something out of it, right? ;) Keep us updated!

I know!!! Detroit is about a 45 min drive from our house. No big deal. Toledo airport is about 15 min, but it's SO much more expensive to fly out Toledo. The secret to cheap airfare is to be looking ALL the time. We found tickets to Cancun last spring, for summer flights, on a Sunday morning at like 8. I was ALWAYS online looking. You can go to Airfarewatchdog.com and register, for free, and they will send you as many alerts a week as you want. That's all I got. :confused3

4 hours is quite a drive. It would have to be a GREAT deal. Although, we've flown out of Chicago before and that's a four hour drive for us. It just depends. We are probably going to have to get a rack put on the top of our van so that we can hook the topper on. Just makes things more comfy in the car.
Abby is feeling a lot better. She has a follow with the Dr tomorrow and for him to look at her wart on her toe. Dang wart!

I will definately keep you updated on the television thing. We still have no dates, yet. I say yet in the hopes that it's still going to happen.

My Mum doesn't do big rollercoasters and doesn't do The Hulk, Dr Doom or Dueling Dragon's but she still absolutely loves the park. The water rides are top, they are so much fun. There are 2 in Toon Lagoon, one Splash Mountain type, with a big and steeper drop (but loads of fun), one river rapids, again so much fun and then there is the Jurassic Park water ride which is a bit different to the usual log flumes as you go through Jurassic Park and see all the dinosaurs. Then you have Spiderman which is a moving 4D ride which you would be fine on I bet, a Sinbad Show, this interactive show thing called Poisedon's Fury which is one of my Mum's all time favorites (its a kind of show but you walk around and things happen), and then you have the Cat in the Hat rides which are smaller but fun (One Fish, Two Fish is great).
