The Wooden roller coaster that was at Paragon Park in Hull MA is now operating as The Wild One in Six Flags America in Maryland

There were some great amusement parks in the Providence, RI area where I grew up. The three I remember most are Jolly Cholly's, Crescent Park (where my great-Uncle Charlie ran the merry-go-round!) and Rocky Point. Nothing like all-you-can-eat clam cakes, chowder and watermelon at the Shore Dinner Hall at Rocky Point!

Rocky Glen in PA.

Was Rocky Glen the one that was in the woods where you could climb the waterfall or something? It burned down several years ago? I think that's the one we went to on a field trip when I was in elementary school. I wouldn't go on the roller coaster b/c it went under the trees and there were rumors that snakes had fallen out of the trees into the roller coaster cars.

Crystal Beach, although I only remember it in weird bits and pieces since I was young when it closed

Yes, yes, yes!!! I was in my early 20's when this park closed and, to this day, we still go to the beach portion. However, it makes me so sad to look across and see the homes instead of the Comet and the sky ride!!!! I miss Laugh in the Dark (although the sign looked like it read "Laugh in the Dork"), the castle, and so many other things. Thankfully, you can still get the suckers. Cinnamon is my favorite!!!! I remember every single detail of that park and love to revisit it in my head. I am very, very sad that I will never be able to share that amusement park w/my DS8. He hears stories of it all the time -- I wish he could have seen it. Have you ever been to the Crystal Beach days? I know they have them sometime in July. I have never been ... don't know if I can bring myself to it -- it's so heartbreaking!!!! I'm so happy to see someone else who posted on this park!!

Pleasure Island in Wakefield, MA. I think I only got up there with my family once but it was a big deal back in early 60's.

There was a small kiddie park near where I lived called King's Castle Land. It was located in Whitman, MA. I took my kids there when they were little.

The other would be Paragon Park in Nantasket, MA. I just about lived there as a kid and a teenager.

The signature piece for the park was their wood roller coaster. When the park was closed, they dismantled it and moved it to Six Flags in MD. The only ride they were able to save and is still there was the Carousel. There are some beautiful photos of it here:

I'm glad my kids got a chance to see Paragon but I sure do feel bad for all the generations to come who will never know just how much fun that place was.

Locations:

Circus World - off old exit 27 of I-4. Went in 70's when only had 1 child.

Jungle Habitat - West Milford, NJ. Wonder if the animals are still running wild

Action Park - Now Mountain Creek in Vernon, NJ. A ski-resort and summer water park.

Palisades Park - Palisades, NJ now very tall and expensive condos on Hudson River

Steeplechase Park - Coney Island in Brooklyn, now apartment buildings. Only Luna Park portion left along with Parachute Ride Tower.

Freedom Land - Amusement Park in The Bronx, NY now Co-Op City.

Santa's Village is still there, although it probably shouldn't be. IMO its nasty.

I was going to say the same thing...and Kiddieland is still open too.

I remember going to Belmont Park in San Diego when I was very young (2-3). About seventeen years ago the wooden rollercoaster was restored and now operates daily.

I don't remember Jolly Cholly's..I wish they would hurry up and Build condos at Rocky point so I can at least drive through it

Jolly Cholly's was on Rte1 in North Attleboro, right near Stop & Shop.
I only have vague memories of it because it closed when I was little.

I miss Rocky Point Some of my best teen memories take place there

Mountain Park in Holyoke, Massachusetts..the other was Riverside Park in Agawam..it's now 6 Flags new England...may be bigger..but it's not better!
