Theme Park Homeschooling on Wife Swap

THey aren't really homeschoolers though, are they? Homeschoolers actually "school" their kids. I don't think that's what's happening here.:scared:

The Mopm says she is homeschooling her children by taking them to Theme Parks... they have no type of schedule.. the mom is on the internet all day... Dad is writing a book on how to get money for college.... go figure

I know some people just like this-go figure their 19 year old son can't get a job because he can't READ.

They are NOT homeschooling, they are unschooling (allowing the child to decide when they want to learn certain things). That is crazy. When a ten year old can't write a sentence, you have some problems. These kids know nothing. They go to the theme park to "learn" about the force of gravity, which the mother doesn't even believe exists :rotfl: and other physics concepts, yet the kid calls the parts of the ride "thingys".

You're right. Homeschoolers do provide a school for their children at home, and that's not what this family is doing. :sad2:

I don't know much about unschooling; however, the mom needs to work with the 10 year old on his writing. My 4 year old writes as well as he does, and that is not saying much.

On the other hand, the girls involved with activities until 10:30 every night is too much.

These people need to find some balance.

wife swap never shows balance, that's the point of it. They want to show the extremes.

That father is a wack-job

I feel so sorry for unschooled kids. I have read some unschooling boards, and the posters all seem to report that their kids are practically begging to be taught something. They don't get why.:confused3

Great, I sure my dad will watch this. I can expect a call about how horrible home schooling is any day now.:rotfl2:

What an unschooling family we have here. The mom appears lazy to me with her being at the computer all day. Shut that darn thing off and sit down with your kids and teach them to read and write about what interests them.

I don't care too much for unschooling.

The Colorado dad is choking me up on being reminded to spend more time with his daughters. I agree with the mom that says unschooling is wrong and I agree with her. I love and support homeschoolers that do a proper job and can keep up or soar beyond where their peers are.

You just have to tell him that there's a huge difference between what that woman does and what homeschoolers do. Huge! By age 10, your child should be able to write a complete sentence and paragraph. I mean...good grief.

You can teach and learn at an amusement park on a weekend or vacation days. This seems negligent and borderline abusive.

Or even on a field trip. I work at a science center and we have a workshop based around the physics of roller coasters so there is science there...but that should by no means be the only means of an education. I really think that the mother is doing a huge injustice to her children.

Oh great, more dumb clucks giving homeschooling a bad name! Grrrrrrrrrr.

Today my homeschooled child learned math, science, geography and history before noon. Then she had to write and read and..... Sure we let her choose some of what we learn and we went to Homeschool Days at WDW where we LEARNED a few things. I just hate that people like that give what we do a bad name. :crazy2:

Did you notice the unschooling mom based her home studies on Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure? The time traveling phone booth where they "kidnap" Genghis Khan and Napoleon? :rotfl: I missed the first few minutes.. please tell me she admitted she stole it from the movie!

Wonder if she is a DISer :rotfl2:

Where do they find these people...seems week after week there are nut jobs on.....I still cant forget the one where the family brushed there teeth with Butter and the mom had the worst gingivitis I have ever seen :lmao:

They didn't have much of the 18 year old son on ....I was wondering how well he learned....I would have loved for her to have him take a proficiency test or something like that.

When he was dancing and dressing in that strange stripped outfit and he is 18 I thought to myself man, this kid is like 5 years old. He looked like he had no social skills. But any idea why he was not part of the show :confused3

Unschooling strikes me as absolute laziness. It can't be good for the kids... :confused3
