I know the WL is the wilderness, the AKL is the african safari, and so on..

but what is the theme on the contemporary? my aunt stayed there and said it was nice, but was basic. it seems expensive for a hotel that should be consided maybe a value resort

The Contemp may not have theming, but what it does have is location. It is the closest hotel to the Magic Kingdom and also a Monorail resort giving guests easy access to Epcot as well. It is also scheduled for rehab.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. And it is the original hotel too.

the resorts are graded upon their amenities...

room service (mods and values have a limited to no room service), being a monorail resort, closeness to the parks, etc...

so there is no way that they would consider this to be a value resort... :confused3

I would think with the new refurbishing it truly lives up to its name. From what I've seen of the pictures the new decor is more sleeker and streamlined as well as having "modern" touches. Plus you can't beat the location!

So, I guess it's all about the location.
It's a nice hotel and all, but I'd just rather stay in a more themed resort like the WL or the AKL.

I think the new renovation will help out signifigantly...I love that resort...something special about it.

It's name gives it away. It's theme is 'Contemporary.' Bold colors, etc. Perhaps contemporary furnishings just aren't your taste.

Luckily, there's a Disney hotel to suit everyone's taste.

The Contemporary also has the biggest rooms out of all of the Disney Hotels

Yup, the Contemporary we remarkable when it opened. It's hard to project anything that is obstensibly supposed to be ultra-modern, when the definition of ultra-modern changes so quickly.

The cr is no were nere a value resort!!! It has great location and ementities not to mention the rooms are huge!!!

Theme? I call it 1970's concrete. Think of all the stadiums that were built in the early 70's, mostly the same looking concrete, and have been blown up and replaced in the past 5 years.

No! I love contemporary furniture, I was just undecided what the different theme was for the resort. But I wouldn't mind staying there at all. It's very nice.

The current decor at the Contemporary was modern 15 to 20 years ago. That's why they are doing a rehab. The location makes it a deluxe, and the room size! The rooms are huge, the layout is great, and the bathroom is 2 rooms with lots of space, done in marble. The CR should have been rehabbed a few years earlier, but it definitely lives up to being a deluxe. The best part is you can walk to MK!

Well, to be fair, they've done at least two major rehabs (that I specifically recall) to the decor of the Contemporary in the last 15 years, so if the decor "was modern 15 to 20 years ago" then they were off the mark when they did the last rehab (which I believe was in the mid-1990s). :-\
