Nikki's on the Brink!
The YR's Nikki has faced some tough times lately. Deacon's betrayal, her family's feud and Victor marrying another woman have taken their toll.....and sent her straight back to the bottle! Just how low will she go?
The In Depth story: "Nikki has been extremely distraught," concedes co-headwriter Hogan Sheffer. In fact, the wordsmith says that deep down, the blonde never fully recovered from her break-up with Victor years ago. "She keeps getting closer to Victor, and then he pulls away again. What she really wants to do is heal the family. she's unable, and it's extremely frustrating to her."
Also exasperating is the love she can't help but feel for The Mustache. "She's pretty much admitted to herself that she's hopelessly in love w/ Victor and will always want him. Not that she will always give in to it, but he means alot to her," Sheffer points out. "You will see this cycle happening again and again over the course of the next several months."
To help her get through the weeks,Nikki has turned to something else for comfort-Southern Comfort. "She's able to hide her drinking." notes the scribe. "Victor, she knows, would be very disapproving, so shehides t from him. She's obviously a functioning alcoholic."
But how long until she stops functioning? Probably not long, w/ Diane rubbing her nose in the fact that Victor is now her man. "He's the one thing she can' have," Sheffer shares. "She watched him w/ Sabrina...and had to watch while Ashly married him. Now, it's Diane. It's like this endless nightmare where all she needs to be whole is to get through this door to be w/ Victor, but other people keep getting through the door before her. That's the biggest frustration she must live with."
Lily Leans on Daniel!
Before Cane, YR's Lily was married to Daniel. Now that her beloved second husband is "dead", could Neil's daughter find comforting he arms of her first?
The In Depth Story: It's not a stretch to imagine that Lily's relationship w/ Daniel could go beyond friendship. After all, YR's writers tapped into the close bond the two share when he revealed to her that Lucy-Billy and Victoria's newly adopted baby-is actually his own daughter w/ Daisy. "It's great," Christel Khalil enthuse of Daniel turning to his former wife for support. "It's a great way to show how the characters trust each other. And onsidering Lily is currently seeing dead people, (okay-one dead person), she definitely needs all the help she can get. Will Daniel be able o be the support system she needs?
Moreover, if the situation turns romantic, could the ardent supporters of Lily and Cane accept it? In fact, Khalil believes that viewers might have a easier time accepting her alter ego w/ Daniel than if she suddenly had a new man in her life. "There's that history,' she explains. "Daniel and Lily never got to live out a whole relationship. It as cut very short. It'll be interesting to see how the writers bring in back. I'm excited."
Of course, that doesn't mean the actress isn't grateful to Lane fans. "It means alot," she declares of the outpouring of support. It's nice to know that fans care about Lane so much that they're tweeting and E-mailing. It's awesome." As for what Lily's ghostly visions mean for a potential future for Cane, Khalil teases: "Stay Tuned!"
Second Chances
Could Lily and Daniel find love again? These exes may have crashed and burned youg, but they got another turn at bat!
The years apart made Ryan and Victoria perfect for each other..Too bad those years also included his crazy ex Tricia, who killed him.
They may not have been each others first loves but JT was Mackenzie's first lover. And in the end, it was Reed's dad who got the girl.
Second Chances? Try one-thousandth chance. Nick and Sharon may be apart now but we are confident they'll make it 1,001.
Sharon's New Man!
And for once, he's not actually Newman (that we know of, at least). Sean Patrick Flanery, best known for films like Powder and The Boondock Saints, as well as portraying the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, is joining The Young and the Restless as Sam, a salt-of-the-earth veterinarian. Word is he'll be paired up w/ Sharon, something her loved ones are really going to be relieved about. (Hey, anyone's better than Adam right?) He's expected to pop up in mid-April.
Newman Switch!
Nick's son is getting a new face, but it's one that will be familiar to YR fans-Kevin Schmidt, who played the part of Noah from 2008 to February of 2010, is taking over for Luke Kleintank beginning on Thursday, April 14.
What's the reason for the switch? According to Kleintank's Twitter, the actor (who has recurring roles on Gossip Girl and No Ordinary Family) had to leave due to other projects and couldn't commit to the role. (Incidentally, that's the same reason Schmidt originally left when he booked Cartoon Network's Unnatural History.
And Schmidt isn't the only returning face. Michael will be getting a visit from his sister soon, since a casting call went ouf for the role of Eden. Last played by Vanessa Marano, who left early last year, Michael's little sis is now described s having a softer side.. "She is no longer a teen but rather a young adult-a bit more mature and a lot more aware....she has not lost her clever, wry sense of humor." The role starts taping in mid-April. There's no word on casting yet.
Bethel's New Role!
Ryder's return o town has thrown another wrench into the saga of Daisy's baby, but for howlong? Portrayer Wilson Bethel has a pilot for CW called Hair of Dixie starring Rachel Bilson.
I'm shooting it in North Carolina, he told SID soon after he began airing on YR. It'll be an interesting juggling act. I'll shoot the pilot for a month, and depending on whether or not it gets picked up will dictate my availability for YR. It's unclear how it will all play out.
Ideally the actor is hoping that he can do both both show if Dixie is picked up as a series. I love working on YR he enthuses. If my availability allows it, i'd love to continue working on YR.
Teen Invasion
Break out the swimsuits, b/c it looks like the kids will be back in time for summer in GC. The new teen scene centers around Paul's son, Rick, who is now 18 years old. The character is described as a darkly handsome, moody, a little vulnerable and a little dangerous."
Joining Heather's little brother are Hunter and Selena. Hunter's a little shy and super-sweet. A peacemaker...she is full of optimism and always gives people the benefit of the doubt."
Meanwhile, Selena is described as a Latina teen who is an overachiever, always striving for perfection. When she is not hitting the books, she is trying to be a normal teenager and fit in w/ her peers, even if it takes a little effort to get her to have fun."
All are contract roles, and they start taping in mid-April. At press tie, there was no word form the show on casting.
The BB Alum casting on YR is Kin Shriner filling in for Ted Shackelford for 3 episodes as Jeffrey.
Casting Call
YR is looking to cast the role of Piper, a 10-12 year old girl who is comfortable around all types of animals, including farm animals. Piper is also described as "shy, very and isolated. She's someone who could use a friend."
Can Anyone save Sharon?
Things look bleak for Sharon this week as her murder trial begins. Desperate to save her Adam search high and low for something that will clear her name. But will he manage to find it in time? Meanwhile, Daniel has been sitting on a ticking time bomb that he's hoping to prevent from exploding. But will keeping the truth under wraps wind up causing him to butt heads with someone else in Genoa City? Finally, Jana is getting ever closer to uncovering the truth about Premrose. Could she be one step away from finding out the shocking link between Daniel and Lucy?
Family in Crisis! Will Victor's decision destroy everything he's worked for?
This week on YR, Victor's little bombshell-that he's taking NE public-sends shock waves throughout GC. But will The Mustache be knocked flat on his assets in a blast of his making?
The Father of All Battles!
As the week begins, all eyes are glued to Victor as he continues is press conference to announce that he will be taking the privately owned family firm in to the public arena. The decision, says co headwriter Hogan Sheffer, is made partly out of pure vindictiveness, a partly out of pure vindictiveness, a retaliation against his children's lawsuit.
"He had a choice-a very clear choice-where he could have settled w/ the kids on their terms, or he could take the company public and pay them off in cash. It may be easier in the long run to have dealt w/ his children by given them BON, but he just couldn't do it," he shares. "This is Victor's way of showing them, 'Okay, you may have won the battle here, but I'm still in charge of the war I still have a big say in what goes on.'"
As first battle shots go, it's a doozy. And Victoria takes a direct hit to the heart. "Just before the announcement, there was some speculation that Victor was going to compromise and give the kids what they wanted. Victor had a lot of to do w/ putting tha impression out there. Victoria bought into that," Sheffer says. "But no sooner does she hear that there's going to be a compromise, Victor announces he's taking the company public, so she's devastated.
And feeling just a tad bit guilty. "She helped build Newman Enterprises," the scribe reminds. "She takes great pride, even more so than Nick, in the fact that she's been a very necessary ingredient to Newman's success. To see her father do the one thing he never wanted to do w/ his company , it's almost like a screw you to her, and that gets her on alot of levels.
Of course, Vicky isn't the only one wounded. Abby, who's been feeling the strain for months., breaks down and declares herself finished w/ the entire mess. "Abby is like a rag doll being pulled by a whole bunch of big kids," describes Sheffer. "Everyone has to remember that she lost her father, Brad, then she lost her Colleen...she's had this loss of family before getting involved in this lawsuit. Her mom is marrying this terrible guy, Tucker, who she can't stand, and now she seems to have lost Victor, too. Abby's emotional reaction to the announcement is that she thinks tat Victor is sending a message that he's still unforgiving of hi children, and any efforts that she's made to sort of mend the fence have been for naught."
The Vultures Circle
While Victor's children may be feeling sick to their stomachs over his decision, there are a few folks who are rubbing their hands together in anticipation of tearing off a chunk of Newman for themselves. "Victor is the sun, and the minute he starts moving, all the planets start turning around him," says Sheffer. "Everybody wants a piece of Newman for their on specific reasons, and he knows it. Victor has got to divide and conquer them to keep them from joining forces against him.
Tucker who has been coveting BON, is one of the first to consider an alliance. Yet when the mogul approaches Kay about teaming up to buy shares, his mom laughs in his face! Son or no son, this guy stepped in and did terrible damage to her company and did it vindictively. The wordsmith reminds us. Vic is a long time friend of Kay but ultimately this is a business decision for her.
Offended although not completely surprised by her response and feeling stymied from getting his greedy finger on BON, Tucker turns around and fires Jack again! Although Jack might not be thrilled to get this latest pink slip, Sheffer insist that he's not about to become less of a thorn in Victor's side! "The whole thing w/ Jack is that he's going to try to make a deal anywhere he can get it. He's the one who pushed Abby into the lawsuit and encouraged her to join forces w/ Vicky and Nick. It was Jack who sold the idea to Tucker of taking BON and combining it w/ Jabot to create one giant cosmetic empire," he points out. "When the horse is show out from under Jack, he just grabs another one to get further into the canyon. Jack will find a new plan and a new ally."
Who will survive?
Victor has always been a master manipulator both personally and professionally. Sheffer teases that this is no exception. There is something that Victor is planning that goes beyond the break-up of his company." Yet w/ so many people against him, can Victor outwit them all?
Maybe. And maybe not. As the tycoon cautiously inches forward w/ the sale of share in the enterprise he has built from scratch, he may believe he has everyone just where he wants them. But he has forgotten one player in this increasingly dangerous game-and it could cost him!
"Central to Victor's problems in the coming months will be Adam, who will end up in a position that so irritates and angers Victor," Sheffer previews.
In other words, GC fans had better buckle up. What Victor has set in motion may have unexpected and drastic consequences...and it could change YR forever!

Josh Morrow Interview...
First part is about the lawsuit and taking on Vic.
Next is Nick's love life
Love Stories
Equally serious for the audience is Nick's love life. Morrow admits that hsi character falling into bed w/ his former stepmom raises alot of eyebrows. I love working w/ Maura! What a pro!
Similarly, Morrow enjoyed working w/ Michelle Stafford to tell the Nick and Phyllis love story. While I miss working w/ Michelle they'v kind of turned the page on that. I dont think anything is going to happen there for now.
Of course the biggest question and one Morrow admits to being most often asked, Will he ever reunite w/ his first love, and most fans feel, only true love Sharon. I honestly don't know confesses Morrow.
And like most people, Morrow has an opinion on his former TV wives current pairing w/ the man who kidnapped their baby. I actually like it as an actor b/c it doesn't feel right. It's got this polarizing affection people. The writers have done a great job telling that story, but as a father it is uncomfortable to watch. For the die hard Nick and Sharon fans, I know it's difficult for them to watch, sympathizes Morrow, but either way, they can't stop watching. It's kinda like a train wreck.
I honestly don't know what is in store for them, Michael and Sharon did a great job telling it, he adds.
Around the corner
What would he like to see for Nick
Well he has never dealt w/ addiction and that would be really cool to play, he grins. I really like Nick and he's a good guy, but I am envious of Michael (Muhney, Adam) b/c his character is a total jerk and that would be awesome too.
There is an article about vanishing storylines...unanswered...and the Hightower murder was the one highlighted for YR. They did one for each soap.
The actors were asked which two characters would they take w/ them if they were stuck on deserted island. Michelle Stafford said Victor and Michael. Josh Morrow said Neil and Billy. Michael Muhney said Phyllis and Sharon to see the fireworks between them and peter Bergman sid Phyllis Ashley.
