The World of Wogging.

Ok I'm in! I don't have access to a gym or any gym equipment but I'm going to try my best with my Wii Fit. I started last night and did 30 minutes. I alternated between aerobic and balance training. Pretty good when my Mii is considered overweight and they added a few extra pounds to it. Now that was just depressing!

I played softball for 5 years in Jr High and field hockey for 2 years in HS. Thats the best you'll get me at running. I think I have some form of ADHD because I get so bored when I run. I can't just go and run, I need to be going after something. Wogging is definately more up my alley. :goodvibes

I love listening to podcasts when I run or wog. It helps the time go by. It is good to find an interesting place to run too. I run along a river near me that has a lot of people on the trail usually and brings me into Valley Forge park.

I was thinking about you when I had my deathgrip on the handle. I just kept chanting to myself, "Please don't fall, Please don't fall" :rotfl2:

My 5 year old niece won't let me forget either. When I talked to her on the phone the other day she asked if I had fallen off any treadmills lately. :lmao: I just had to laugh out loud. I think my brother put her up to asking me.

Our new complex is pretty big so I am going to have to figure out a loop and what the mileage is if I want to walk outside for my mile walks once a week. I don't understand what this Nike thing is, can you explain it to me?

Nike+ has two parts to it. A transmitter that attaches to your ipod Nano or Touch (it doesn't work with the regular Nanos), or they also sell an armband to use it with for people who don't have a Nano. Then there is a little sensor that fits into a pair of special Nike+ shoes. If you don't have a pair of the special shoes you can do what I did and buy a little pouch that attaches to your shoelaces to put it in.

The sensor and transmitter:

A pouch for non-Nike+ shoes:

When you walk or jog with this sensor it registers how far you walked, how many calories you burned, the speed you walked, etc. and saves it onto your ipod. I'm pretty sure you can also create workouts with it and it will tell you when your 1/2 way there and stuff like that. I haven't played with all the features yet.

There are some treadmills, elipticals and stairclimbers that are Nike+/ipod ready. The treadmills at my gym are like that. When I walk at the gym I don't need to worry about the sensor. I just plug the ipod into the treadmill and it saves all the info about my workout.

When your done with your routine you sync your ipod with your computer like you would for your music and you can upload your information to the Nike+ website. There it will track all your workouts and you can set goals for yourself. I was also able to create a little mini-me on the site and if your working out and doing good she's all happy and energetic. If you start slacking off and don't work out for awhile she'll start trying to encourage you to get on the stick. You can link the mini-me's to your facebook page, or make a screensaver out of it. I've done both. You can click on my mini-me on the sidebar on my facebook page to see my workouts.

I got mine for free after trading in a bunch of my coke rewards points for a Nike gift card, but I think they only run about $30 or so. The pouch only cost me about $5 with shipping from Amazon. All that time spent picking up bottle caps after Yankee games turned out to be well worth it.

It's very cool, and pretty motivational. I like that I can't lie to myself about what I'm getting done.

Good job morning workout people! I wish that I had time in the am for a workout. I'm proud of you all!

I'd give you some encouraging smilies but I can't figure out how to do it on my Blackberry

I can't manage to workout in the morning. I have to leave for the train at 6:30 am, so I'd have to get up at like 4am or something to be able to workout, shower and get ready and still make my train. Just won't be happening any time soon. A morning person I am not!

At least now it's still a bit light out when I get home. It will be easier once it's lighter longer. I'll be willing to walk a bit farther. I live in a pretty safe area, but until there is a bit more daylight I prefer to just make the passes around my complex.

That is really really neat. I think I might have to look into it. What a neat little gadget. I will use anything to keep me going!! :yay:

I'm here girls!

I'm quite certain I won't be able to come for the 2011 1/2 marathon but figure I can maybe train with you and get some motivation from all of you. A few years ago I lost 30 pounds and I have managed to put them all back on again. I have been trying to get motivated to start up again, maybe I just needed some woggers to get going!

I've done the same thing. I always want to give myself a kick in the pants for every pound I've put back on. I too am hoping some wogging will help the cause to get rid of them again.

I wogged the Princess half this year and plan on doing it again with my BFF next year. I may try to make it a regular occurance for me. It was a great time for me. I have restarted the C25K program and will be finishing up week 3 tonight. I now know that I can complete the race, now I want to have a good time for the race.

Hi everybody!!

Your thread has caught me eye and I wanted to chime in with some (hopeful) inspiration. A little over 27 months ago I started exercising again after something like 5 years off (and that was after exercising for around 3 years which had followed like an 8 - 10 year layoff). I started with a slow approach, which fit my inactive lifestyle, of walking 3 minutes and "running" 1 minute intervals (back then running was probably more life shuffling my feet, but it felt like running to me).
However, more than anything else I was determined, I had just turned 41 and figured I couldn't keep myself from growing older, but I could grow healthier. Slowly but surely, I felt better, my clothes got looser, my health improved (in that time total cholesterol dropped from 248 to 155, weight is 44 lbs off its high mark, I have no trouble getting around in daily life,...) and I am better off in many ways--even my wife had told me how some things improved for her as my weight went down, for one thing I stopped snoring, and another I probably shouldn't mention here...
In these months I have been able to complete at least 24 running events ranging from 5K to 50K in length, and have found that I really enjoy these events, but I have also learned that I can meet so many great people through the social aspects of running. I have made so many good friends in this time, that I can't imagine how much more empty my life would be without them, in fact their support is much of the reason I have gotten through a recent family tragedy.
These days I am a runner, but I was always a runner at heart (it's just that my heart couldn't take it back then!), but I am still a runner who walks frequently (and who only sees the front pack runners in photos of the race). I still have a lot of weight to lose, but I have come so far that I have already changed my life.
I wish you all the best in your efforts, I hope you always remember to try to enjoy yourselves while you work to improve yourselves. Good Luck!

First day of the wogging. Did 2 miles overall, first mile walk .25, jog .25, walk .25. jog .25. 2nd mile walk .25, jog .25 walk .50. FIrst mile was 17min 2nd was 16min. Oh man it shows that I have not run in almost 20 years.

Paula I am going to have to do the same thing (eliptical) for the opposite reason-it is getting hot here.

Congrats LL for doing it. I always hold on.

Go Us!

Heading out for day #2 of Couch to 5K! :woohoo::yay::woohoo::yay: (that is completely FAKE enthusiasm!!!)
WOO HOO! I had completely fake enthusiasm this morning too but somehow I got my butt out of bed. I was quite proud of myself. ;)

I love hearing stories of people who have done the half already, it inspires me! :goodvibes

Thank you so much for sharing your story. My biggest motivating factor is just getting healthy, I am not even focusing on losing weight right now, I just want to feel better and move more. :thumbsup2

Good Job!! Very impressive. :thumbsup2 I think as long as we are moving, it doesn't matter if we are just walking/wogging/running. Any movement is good movement in my eyes! :goodvibes

Yay, for day 2 .......... 30 minutes CHECK!:banana::banana::banana:
Yahoooo!!

Checking in...I finished my Day #2 workout while watching the game! I do have to say that my calves/shins didn't hurt as much today! So I'll dance to that

I'm with you Katie! I can't guarantee anything for 2011, but I will keep track with the rest of you. Way to go LL for starting yet another new "trend" thread! You really could be Miss Congeniality (sp)! ;)

I am on my last semester of graduate school, but I played softball on a rec team up until I was 17 and then played competitive indoor badminton and won County's my junior and senior year of high school. Back then I ran about 3 miles a day. Just on sunday I played my 1st tournament in 7 years, I didn't do very well, but I have been feeling like I've been hit by a train the past 2 days! :sad2:I really didn't think I was that out of shape, but I printed out the "Couch to 5K link"and I will be starting tomorrow after my pain goes away. It takes me a very very long time to get back to running because I broke my nose in 7th grade and have trouble breathing sometimes. I am definitely NOT a morning person, so I will be working out at night after work. I always found that when I did that after my classes, I slept much better!
Good luck to all!! :thumbsup2
