The World of Warcraft Cataclysm Thread.

I don't know... and the reason I say that is that the RP servers I am on, well, nobody ever RP's. And I am in a really good raid guild on Scarlet Crusade, though I don't raid. I'm only in that guild because the GM and I are WoW buddies for about 4 years now.

We're on Kirin Tor, and there isn't a lot of RP here either. It's more of a joke than anything. On realm is no where near like Moon Guard, or at least I've been told they are really into RP there. Goldshire FTW:lmao: There are some that do it, it's just not the majority. I don't mean to say that you can't find a good raiding guild for an RP server. However if you compare the raiding level on a PVE server vs a RP server, I would bet the level of raiding is better on the PVE server. I've been in many raiding guilds that were good for our server, heck I've been in the top guild on our server. When you compare that to the raiding that goes on in "serious PVE" servers, what we do is more of a joke than anything. When they are gearing up their 2nd or 3rd alt through the Heroic 25 mans, we are just getting started on Heriocs. The main problem is, that when guild drama blows up, there are as many good raiders to pull into the slots left by those that left. There are just so many good raiders to spread out through the many guilds.

Gerberah, I can't think of the name of it, but there is an add-on that helps with that. When I was raiding, we had someone that had an add-on that before each boss pull, when we did a ready-check, would tell who was missing what buffs. It then would whisper that person what buff they were missing. Which helped me a lot b/c I tended to forget to actually eat to get the food buff.

I already hate 4.1!! Within 2 years, I broke 2 gaming HP's. One was dropped on concrete in a Mickey Mouse laptop bag that gave no protection to the laptop and it ended up dead. Then I bought another one, and just outside of the one year warranty something died on it. I'm not sure what it is, but the DH says it needs a new motherboard. I am playing on a laptop that was just a old leftover one that my DS's were playing Wizard 101 on. My iTunes stuff took up so much room that he spent an hour putting pics, music, and a few movies on and external hard drive to be able to even download 4.1. We didn't even get to start playing last night until just after 9 PM, and DH starts raiding at 11:30 PM. We had very little time to work on our belfs.

I am starting to like the Horde side more and more. We are in a Horde guild and it is a rebuilding guild. The GM was so thankful for the people that have joined, and stayed in it, that she bought everyone the new Winterspring kitten pet. Before I logged for the night, I changed to my Ally toons to get the pet for them. When I saw the price, I was . I couldn't believe she has spent that much gold. I spent way more on pets for myself, but I couldn't let someone else do that for me. I got back on my Horde toon, and after informing her of how crazy she was, sent her the gold for the guild bank.

I am on an RP server (The Scryers) and there's not much RP going on over there either. Oh yes, MoonGlade :rotfl2:. I went out of morbid curiosity. I will say that I usually do not get offended easily, but wow I couldn't believe what I was reading. It was bad.

I love Horde too :). I tried rolling a Worgen and I really, really wanted to like it. I wanted to get immersed like I am with my Horde characters, to see stories unfold. I couldn't stand it and deleted it before I even got to 20. Just something about them turned me off. To be fair, I do have an Nelf and have played other ally toons on other servers and have had a great time (MoonGlade excluded!), but I really enjoy playing my Troll the most.

Oh! If you have a female Gnome or Dwarf, or knows someone who does on my server, let me know! I need them for the achievement!

For the Horde! I've tried a couple Ally toons, and I just find Horde more comfortable. It's probably because that's where I started, and that's the majority of my toons. Familiarity, I'm guessing.

Hooray @ the new pet! I don't have one of those, I'll have to check it out. I like to do special things for guildies, gestures of good will, ya know? I like to send out gifts when someone hits level cap, whether it's gear (I've given out so many epic 359 pieces this month I'm nearly broke!) or a companion pet for someone's birthday. And it's always fun to go to Dal and pick up a cake and some fireworks for special occassions. I actually bought the 7th tab for my guild this week (to the sum of 10k gold!!), but I was happy to do it.

As for crappy laptops, I have one of those. I'm thinking I might put a good laptop for gaming on my birthday list. They really make life so much easier. For example, the laptop I have currently is not good for gaming, and all the WoW settings are turned waaaaay down. Well, I was fishing from pools to help with the guild achieve (and get foodstuff for buffs), and I could hardly find them because the graphics were so awful. Anyway, to make life easier, I turned some of the graphics settings up (makes my comp run really hard and messes with my fps), but I was only fishing so no big deal. Til I forgot I had changed the settings and ran a dungeon with some guildies. It was only then that I realized just how bad it was because I had seen (for the first time) the shaman's healing rain spell effect. I had no idea there was a puddle on the ground before that! I had always seen a few little rain drops which indicated where to stand, but it was something I really had to look for and pay attention to. But not that night! I knew exactly where to stand!

.....

Cuddly: Even if there were hardcore servers, you'd still get them in your random LFD groups. Just depends on your luck. Those hard knobs certainly like to make their presence known, don't they? They can be so anti-social. You can totally give someone a tip or trick without being all "L2P noobsauce!"

Yes indeed, but probably a whole lot less. I'm 48 years old. All I want is some nice, easy mindless gameplay.... anything more than that, and my head hurts. :rotfl:

I so agree....I have to much other stuff going on to be that hardcore..

LK wasn't easy when it first came out. It got easier the farther into the expansion we got. The gear wasn't there at the beginning. So to say LK heroics were too easy is true, yet misleading. It wasn't always easy. You used to need CC and timing when LK first came out too. There wasn't always ICC to get that 1337 264 gear that made cruising through heroics such a faceroll. Or have you forgotten that?

Like Colleen, who basically said, sorry I can't do anything because I take too much damage when I stand near the boss, so I'll just go over here and twiddle my thumbs til I can. Her guild says 1 melee per 10 man, because healers just can't handle the damage being taken ---- yet. But let a little gear start flowing and those rogues will be welcomed again.

Also, I have run my share of dungeons, both heroic and regular...and I haven't seen any tanks chain pull like they thought they were in Wrath. And I haven't seen any DPS pull a mob and QQ when/if the tank doesn't pick it up. Yes, I know there are idiots out there, but the way you talk, it's like you think there's an idiot pulling in every dungeon, that tanks don't give a crap if they die because the healer was OOM, and that's just not the case.

If that's the case, you're basically calling me, Daxx, Colleen, Wookie, and quite a few others in this thread idiots because we say heroics are hard.

Not trying to start trouble or tension or anything, but seriously, we all say we're having difficulty, and explain why (too many melee, too much AoE damage, etc) and you're basically accusing us of trying to AoE, chain pull, and sleep our way through it (because all you need to do is pay attention, right?).

LK was easy to me. I didnt have to sap, healers never went OOM. All you had to do was avoid the cleave, and DPS the right object and you profit.

dngnb8, That is the main reason I don't want to make my spriest a healer. I can't even begin to tell you the number of times I've heard DH complain to his computer "well you wouldn't die if you wouldn't stand in the stupid stuff on the floor."

Again, this is about positioning. You know the old saying, Dont Stand in Fire

I know the light shadow AOEs are hard for me to see on my screen, so that may be part of the issue.

Even now, when I do heroics on my Rogue, tanks pull like LK. They dont wait for mana. Blizzards goal was to not make these farming runs. You have to work to win. You have to know where to stand.

Usually, rogues stand behind to avoid cleaves. In BH, if they stand behind, you wipe.

Knowledge of fight is important. Remember in vanilla...

Okay, Hunters stand here, mages here, locks here. run to here if this happens etc.

That is back. It is no longer,

Tank gets aggro, spank it. Stay out of fire.

I don't blame you Dax. Back when I tanked if the same person kept pulling aggro, I would just stand there until they were taking a dirt nap.

I have a tank and healer. I pug with both, but I have no issue with leaving.

Hunters are the worst. They send their pet in, multi shot, and I just stand there. I click off my retribution aura and start DPSing. When they QQ, I say

Well you pulled so I thought we were trading, you tank I dps?

They then make a comment about how I suck and I remind them that Qs are 20 minutes to wait for a tank, instant is you are a tank, and I have no problem letting everyone boot me.

In one case, 4 from the same guild said, we wont boot you, but were gonna keep pulling. I said fine.

Right Click, left dungeon, and started farming ore. I think they tried to do Heroic Stonecore with a mage, Resto shammy, rogue and and hunter with the pet tanking.

5 min later they booted me, and I got right into another.

PuGs seem to resonate with a greater majority being spoiled little brats who think youre there to get them gear. They get upset if you dont. A DPS DK signed in as Tank/DPS so he could need Tank gear for off spec. (that is what the selection screen with the shield cross and sword set). I asked the leader to reset that and said I wouldnt tank if he can need on my gear. They booted me.

I dont play with Ninja's

Im 50, and I want the challenge. It is why I pvp mostly. In our guild, Im the PvP officer. Combining all my toons, I have 100k HKs. +50k on my rogue alone. I long for the days of raiding Tauren Mill.... *sigh*

Which leads us right back to the "you can't heal stupid" theory. There are some people that feel that the healers should be able to heal them through them standing in anything. They are too worried that taken a split sec to move out of the stuff on the floor, their dps will go negative. I've actually heard people justifying it in vent by saying things like, "my job is to dps, yours is to heal. that should include any damage I take while standing in stuff." These are also the people that don't change to adds, in order to make sure that can just dps the same target.

Those are the people that my DH would love to smack. They are the ones that have given the huters the lovely huntard nickname. Which in my house, is just about the biggest insult I can give my DH. I could spend an hour stringing together the most foul offensive rant of cuss words about him, and it is nothing compared to me calling him a huntard.

In LK my DH's biggest problem as a hunter was the guy that ran our raids. He was always giving the hunters a laundry list of things to do during raids. He even made them MD things that the tank should have been able to pick up by themselves in their sleep. The guy's problem was that he was a fury (or maybe arms) warrior. He knew that if the tank picked it up themselves, he would actually have to watch his threat and not go all out as soon as it mob was pulled. He didn't like that, so he solution was to have hunter's MD everytime it was up, on everything. Honestly, if I had still been tanking, I would have seen it as an insult that he didn't think I could hold any better aggro than that. Actually, I'm pretty sure the guy never leaves his house b/c his head is just so big with what a "great" raider he is. I mean he's good for a RP server, but I'm sure he would be just run of the mill on a serious PVE one.

Again, I would like to point out that while your statement is true, it is misleading. LK was NOT easy at the beginning of that expansion before everyone was overly geared. Maybe you have forgotten.

Not sure I agree. We didnt have too much trouble in our guild. Maybe a wipe now and then, but that is no biggie. We assaulted with full gear from heroics.

Comparatively, of all the releases, LK was the easiest instance wise, and vanilla was hardest.

This is my opinion.

He even made them MD things that the tank should have been able to pick up by themselves in their sleep.

IMHO, MD, ToT and other aggro tools should always be used. On my rogue, I ToT every time it refreshes. I ToT the off mobs so AOE damage doesnt pull them off the tank.

It is why it is there. Saying that a hunter shouldnt use MD is like saying a tank should have to use taunt if you pull the non focus mob off him.

This is a team event, and each member of the team must do what they can for others. As a rogue, I keep Recuperate up. This saves my healer mana. I could say, Heal me Noob through normal damage, but I have the skill set and should use it. Its like the idiot standing in fire and saying you should heal him through it. He can move.

When any class expects others to do things when they have skills to do them, they arent using the tool to the full extent.

Someone once said bad rogues use feint. During BC, I could dump a lot of damage in the first 6 seconds. I would almost every time pull off the tank. I usually pulled unless I missed. I used feint to insure the tanks ability to keep aggro.

It is the responsibility of every toon to use any tool to help. If MD does that, he should use it, without being asked.

Personally, I think recount tools have done more bad then good.

I'm not saying that shouldn't be used, just not the way he used them. There are other things that other classes can do to help the tank gain aggro. This guys problem with hunters, was they always out dps'ed him. He was always trying to find different things for them to be doing for them to not be dps'ing the boss. This guy never asked any other class to do anything other than dps, except hunters. With the exception of the LK fight with the Valks. He did ask a few other classes to do things to slow them down. Honestly, he would even get them to MD single trash mobs that should have been easy for a tank to handle without any MD. The few times this guy did tank, he would just flat out say that he was too lazy to get aggro for himself and expected hunters to get it for him.

I totally agree with you on the recount. I know it tracks deaths, but it doesn't track how many deaths you had AFTER a whipe was called for. Then when they do look at the deaths, they don't look at how much that player was healed and what messures they took to keep themselves alive. When I was raiding, I was always the person with the least amount of healing taken. I mean if I got 1% of the healing, I was excited for getting so much. An officer friend, told me there were worried about my amount of deaths. Which they weren't taken into account the number of deaths I had after the whipe was called. I told him to keep track of how much I was healed and what I did to keep myself up. I would use every trick I had to keep myself up. When he was able to take those numbers to them, the backed off. The problem was there was an officer that wanted his new to the guild girl friend to be able to raid, but she would have to take my spot and I was a much better raider than she.

So last night, I got booted my from my first Heroic. I cannot remember the name of it, but its the one who the last boss casts the shadow thing on the ground, then summons the Faceless Ones adds...

Well I was having Lag issues...again...and I could not always see the void on the ground very well...I told the group this...and after the last wipe(which was NOT my fault) they kicked me...LOL...Oh well..I was ticked..I told them I was a newer 85..and it wasnt an issue up until then...no patience...

So I went and played with my new rogue...ended up having eggs being stolen from me all night....:rotfl:

That drives me nuts!! Especially if it's a really low level toon. I haven't touched a single egg this time. I am going to do Children's Week stuff, but that's just b/c I can finally get the last pet I need on my ally toons.

I used to be a member of a guild back in BC. The leader took a sabbatical and handed leadership to the #2. She was a real raid mentality. Epeening gear etc.

They got invited to a Kara run and one of their DPS dropped. She sent me a tell asking me. I was pvping and told her Im not much into raid. I got the

Do it for the guild, otherwise we have to quit and we're saved yadda yadda yadda.

I said fine, but if people QQ my gear (full season II pvp set) I would leave. When I got there, some of the 133t raiders were talking amongst themselves in a sarcastic way about gear, pvp etc. I shrugged and figured I will put up with it for my guildies.

First boss we fight they ran stats. I was 3rd in DPS (behind hunter and lock)

Damage taken 0
Healing 0

People were screaming in Vent. OMG! LOOK AT TREZ NO DAMAGE AT ALL!

Sure shut those other two guys (one a Mut Rogue, I was subtlety) who came in 4th DPS and the other a mage who was 5th.

Most people use Recount for their Epeen or to ridicule.

I agree, especially the Epeen part.

My DH didn't start raiding right away when Cata came out. We had moved and our connection, well we were lucky to be able to even log in. The lag was too bad for even 5 mans. Once our connection issue was fixed, he was able to raid. By this time he had gotten several of the new PVP epics you can buy. There were several people, including officers, that got mad at him b/c he was way out dps'ing them in gear they considered to be not as good as their gear and pvp gear. They told him, he wasn't allowed to raid until every pvp item was gone. Again the main problem was the guy I talked about earlier. He was mad b/c he wasn't top of the dps meters anymore. Oh well, Blizz will do something to nerf dps'ing warriors again, he won't top the meters, he'll get his Epeen crushed, throw a temper tantrum (and yes as a "grown man" he does this), and he'll take another break, or decide he wants to play another game for a while.

Although Epeen can work to a girl's favor. However I refuse to "blow smoke up someone's rear" or kiss it to get into raid.

Just did Grim Batol about 30 minutes ago with my Pally. I love the Ironforge look to the place. This was the reg version. Nothing really dropped for me, other than a ring I rolled greed on. I won it and my gear went from 321 up to 325. This was my 3rd Cata instance. It was cool because my guildie was the tank, and he's a raiding tank, and has been in all the dungeons before this patch... so he was able to tell me what to watch out for. Mostly it was dirt simple...

He was the only one in the group who was heroic ready. I should have died a few times because of my own stupidity.... I didn't have the mythical healing potions with me... 3500 points for a heal ( runic healing ) is laughably low in Cata dungeons, it seems. World of Glory stinks now.... :rotfl:

The funniest part was when we completed the instance, we were THREE points shy of level 15 guild status. And like 5 seconds after that, we hit 15.

I actually need to go and read the 4.1 patch notes. I wasn't expecting to instance, but I was asked, so I went.

Okay, here goes. I have read thru the entire post since my last entry and I have many questions (I am very noob). First I'll tell about my WOW experience.I only started playing WOW one month before cata. My main right now is a Nelf Hunter (how original I know) Level 71. I am finally in Northrend. I have only soloed because I started playing with my brother and SIL and as I said earlier they recently quit. I am left alone in Azeroth the only member of my guild (I don't even know the guild name). I want to find a good guild (thanks everyone for your kind invites) I dont have a dh to play with so I am a little chicken to PUG at all so I miss out on the dungeons.
Now to my questions: Hopefully those who said it will recognize the context if I don't put who said what but I am still learning terms and such:

-Where are those 4.1.11 notes were they only on blizz site on Apr 1?
-What is "Leroy'ed Halfus"? I think Gerbereh said this.
-What is pwnd? owned by the other player? in that they killed you good and they killed you fast?
-What is "BoT"?
-What is "teabagged"? is this a pvp thing?
-What is "epeen"?
-What means "L2P noobsauce"? I understand the noobsauce part but not the L2P.
-What happens when you /wrist? Does the toon wring their wrists/hands together like they are worrying? I haven't tried any of the emotes.
-What means "Avoid the cleave.."?
-What are "Recount tools"? Is it an add-on to do something for raids?
-What is "QQing"?
-What is the "Hasty Hearth guild perk"?
-What is the "Winter saber mount"?
-How does one gear up for heroics"?
-How do you calculate your gear score and is that what it means when you said "i385" or whatever the number is? Are you talking about gearscore?
- "PUG" means "Pick up group right? Anyway that's how I just used it (above).
-I'm guessing "OOM" means "out of mana"?
-How do you "CC" I think is "crowd control"
-Even though I'm a hunter I don't know "MD" please clarify.
-Also "TOT"?
-"BH"? I assume this is a dungeon.
WHEW! I think that's it.

I also wanted to comment that I downloaded the patch yesterday so I have not seen how that new guild feature works yet. HOWEVER, I am thinking of switching servers. I really thank you all for your helpful comments on finding a guild. I am 50 and a catlady so no kids and all the time in the world to play so I think it will be good when I do find the right place to call guild home. I do hope that you are all not sick of wow and all quit to play "Rift" (or name any other mmorpg). I started WOW because I am sick of waiting for Diablo 3 to come out. I am turning blue from holding my breath for that one :rotfl:

I remember on one of the posts I think it was BCB (bigcuddlybear) who tried Rift and said you hate it? Why?

Okay, enough said. I await your replys. I won't blame you either if you just say "Go google that stuff you should know what it means.." but I don't think you are those type of peeps. Okay group hug :grouphug:

Thanks in advance for all your help,
Gina.

-Where are those 4.1.11 notes were they only on blizz site on Apr 1?

when you sit on the head of a defeated player

-What is "epeen"?

False self esteem

-What means "L2P noobsauce"? I understand the noobsauce part but not the L2P.

L2P = Learn to Play

Noobsauce. The bloody stain a dead new player makes

-What happens when you /wrist? Does the toon wring their wrists/hands together like they are worrying? I haven't tried any of the emotes.

They are telling you to kill yourself because youre so bad

-What means "Avoid the cleave.."?

Standing in front of a boss who has an frontal only AOE attack

-What is the "Hasty Hearth guild perk"?

It reduces the cooldown of your hearth stone for everyone in your guild.

-What is the "Winter saber mount"?

Something you can ride.

Running regular instances. The blue drops have a gear score that will allow you to run Heroic instances so you can gear up for raids

-How do you calculate your gear score and is that what it means when you said "i385" or whatever the number is? Are you talking about gearscore?

I385 is your average item level or gearscore. It is on your paperdoll

- "PUG" means "Pick up group right? Anyway that's how I just used it (above).

Correctamundo

-I'm guessing "OOM" means "out of mana"?

Good Guess

Anything that makes something else loose control and unable to act. Sap, Cheap Shot, Kidney Punch, Fear, Cyclone et al

-Even though I'm a hunter I don't know "MD" please clarify.

Misdirect. It assigns aggro for your target to someone else

-Also "TOT"?

Tricks of the trade. It is the rogue misdirect

-"BH"? I assume this is a dungeon.

It is a raid. Baridan Hold in Tol Barad.
